Vehicle Detail

This 1964 Chevy Van spent the first 30 years of its life at Luke AFB in Arizona. In around 1995 it ended up in NH, where it was used as a working advertisement van for cleaning ducts or chimneys... I bought it in 2006 from a guy in NH who bought it from the chimney/duct cleaner guy. The van was painted with a heavy coat, and one little rust hole behind the passenger side wheel was fixed. Other than that, no effort was made to straighten the long long panels, so it has the bends associated with the inside being an Air Force work truck. Unfortunately, rust spots have popped out in the past 2 years, with the worst of it being the drivers-side bottom rocker panel between the wheels. The other side is okay though. But there are several rust bubbles that have popped up in other places. I can attest that the underneath of the van is very solid, and I've included some pics of the inside of the wheelwells to show that. There's also damage to the drivers-side door where I lane-changed into somebody during a rainy 50-mile commute, as I headed into a train station. The front bumper is slightly bent, and the door is whacked - see pics. Also, a tree limb hit the roof, and dented it, as shown in the pics. But the truck really is a solid vehicle, and could be driven as is for years, but would be a great start to an awesome finished first generation Chevy Van. The body work can be done more easily since there's no interior, which gives panel access inside and out. I replaced the original 194 c.i, inline 6 with a 250 c.i. built motor. The engine is the nicest running 6-cylinder I've ever owned, with no flutter in the true daul exhaust. I bought a remanufactured long block engine from S & S engine rebuilers in Washington state (1100+deposit+del'y). I had them add an RV cam, ported/polished head ($275), and 9.4:1 compression pistons. I added Langdon Stovebolt offy dual carb intake, dual Weber carbs, cast-iron header with 3-cylinders into each exhaust, electronic ignition, and true 2"dual exhaust out behind the wheel. I've used Mobil 1 Synthetic oil. I also installed a tach/oil psi/V meter. The odometer shows 25k, but the truck probably has only about 50 k miles on it, with no more than 10 k miles on the motor. The original 194 engine had 85 HP. This one is around 200 HP. It runs down the road straight and pulls really strong up to about 80 mph. It's got a limited slip 12 bolt rear. It has the original 3-speed unsychronized transmission, which works really well. The unsynchronized first gear just means that the truck has to be stopped to get into first, but with this engine, you can power into second from stopped if you had to. I also replaced the clutch, pressure plate and throwout bearing when I did the engine replacement about 4 years ago. This truck is a very solid survivor, and should run for another 49 years! But do understand that it's an old truck and as such will need fixes. My next move would have been disc brakes. There's a website, vcvc.org, where you can get info and assistance on anything about these old vintage chevys. They're a bunch of really cool folks who live and breath the vintage Chevy Vans, first (64-66), and second (67-70) generation. It could also use an upgraded radiator from the original in order to run cooler in the hot summer months. I do have the original belly pan which isn't on the truck now, but will be included in the sale. I'll answer any questions you have, either through ebay, or call me on my call at 443 285-1820. If you're interested in my van, good luck with the auction. You won't be disappointed if you're the winning bidder. I'll assist in the transaction as necessary, even delivering it to you on my trailer if need be, within a reasonable distance (say 2-400 miles) if you can cover my fuel. I bought the truck for $5250 5-6 years ago, and have added another $4,000 in engine work. PEACE :) On Mar-13-13 at 17:07:36 PDT, seller added the following information: A couple things to add to the description. It's got a 2-year old heater core and the blower/defrost works well. I think it's missing a couple handles on the inside of the side door might be missing a handle. The driver's side door outside access doesn't work as it's out of adjustment. I just pop open the vent to get in. The vent window knob on the passenger side has fallen off, but it should be in the glove box. The vehicle is actually lockable, and I have several keys to it, one of which may be an original. I'll include two original factory brochures advertising the truck, one is a 4-page 8 1/2 x 11, and the other is a 3" x 8" 5-pager. I'll include the operators manual if I can find it, and if I don't find it at time of transfer, I'll mail it when I do. That's the 4:"x 8" 40-pager that describes all of the features. The motor doesn't use any oil, which took a while after the installation, as I kept tightening up the covers. I also installed a cast-aluminum Mercury boat motor valve cover which is an awesome cover for the 250-6, in that it doesn't bend when you torque it down which makes for a tight seal. It was recommended by Mr. Tom Langdon of Langdon Stovebolt which is where I bought all the performance parts for the engine. Tom was a Chevy development engineer for the six-cylinder engines back in the day, and is even credited with design of a high-performance 427. An awesome fellow, still doing engine work. I tried to buy a valve cover from him, and he said "find a Mercury.. If I could buy a truckload of 'em, I would"... and one body negative to add, the day I took it off the trailer 6 or 7 years ago my buddy pushed from the back doors and put a little crease in the driver's side back door.. one more thing for the body man. Good luck guys. The reserve is 4.On Mar-16-13 at 04:49:27 PDT, seller added the following information: I just remembered three things I want to say about my Van, because I so don't want anybody to be disappointed with the truck. 1) The driver's side window mechanism is a mess and needs work. You have to hold the glass while rotating the handle in order to roll it up/down. 2) The blinker arm fell off, and is in the glove box. It's happened before. You just need to pop the steering wheel, retrieve the little screw, and screw it back on. I should have used loctite the last time I re-attached it. 3) I have a flat spare tire, and no jack. Someone called and asked if it would make a 900 mile trip home.. I think yes, and if that type of situation comes to be I'll fix the spare and throw in a small hydraulic jack. I think these are trivial items, but I'm glad I got it out before the reserve is hit, because I want the winning bidder to know everything. John On Mar-16-13 at 10:12:39 PDT, seller added the following information: .. sorry for all the updates, but here's another. I fixed the turn signal so the blinkers work. Installed new wipers. Put the passenger side door handle on. New gas cap... it's so easy to work on... I'm gonna miss the old girl.On Mar-16-13 at 14:24:16 PDT, seller added the following information: More pics showing dash, tach with adjustable shift light, and chevy rallye rims with T/A radials.
