Vehicle Detail
1971 Saab Sonett IIII am losing storage space and hence I am putting my Sonett up for sale mid-restoration. I bought the car over a year ago. I purchased it from a serious Saab collector who had planned for many years to restore the car. According to him, the car had been in a barn that had a beam collapse, which explains why the dash is cracked and I had to replace the front windshield. The car has a clean title, and the odometer read 36,000 miles. The previous owner repaired the trunk floor pan. It comes with an original dealer repair manual. What’s Been Done.Under the hood is a 1,700 cc, Ford V-4 power plant. The top half of the engine was professionally rebuilt with new oversized valves and hardened valve seats. The car starts and runs well with less than 10 miles since being rebuilt. The brake master is also recently rebuilt and all new brake pads with rebuilt cylinders in the front and back. The majority of the rust had been remediated. Numerous other small items have been purchased and replaced for which I have receipts. What Needs to be Done (to make it a driver). To begin: The clutch master has a leak that needs to be addressed. It needs a new key. The tires should be replaced. This car comes with a lot of extras and many of the hard to find parts have already been sourced. These include: one complete engines and transmission (in pictures there are two, one has sold). I have a complete body shell, door, gas tank, two dashboards in nice condition, a number of interior bits, 4 carbs, alternators, heater cores, 5 soccer ball wheels, another spare set of regular wheels, new brake pads and shoes, new distributor cap, a number of rebuild kits for brakes and clutch, two sets of new points, a number of brake and clutch master and slave cylinders, and much more. I also have a lot of extra glass, jack, plug wrench, and tire iron.
