1988 Toyota Pickup, IFS 4x4, 22RE 4cylinder, auto-od, manual locking hubs, only 138k miles. Been in the family for over 12yrs. I am a used car dealer, this is my work truck for hauling parts, etc. It has been in my family for over 12yrs. Was driving the other day and the bottom radiator hose split and loss all the coolant. Me being a dumbass did not pull right over to get my tow truck and drove it around 1/2 mile to the off ramp of the I-95 trying to get off the highway, I did not make it. I turned it off while doing so to let it coast and cool so as not to hurt the engine, but when I turned it off the battery died from the blinkers and turning it on and off. After pulling over on the side of the highway I called for a ride to get my rollback to get it back to my shop, and it started right up no problem, I figured I didn't do any damage to the head gasket or engine. I just put a lower hose and new clamps on it today and it seems the temp is going up and I hear a faint pudder to the exhaust, so it seems the head gasket will need replacing, I have had lot's of Toyota's and lot's of vehicles and build race cars so I know when a head gasket is blown I don't need to do a compression check. Luckily the head gasket is easy to fix on these trucks and only takes about 2 hrs. but I really don't feel like screwing with and will just pick up another truck at the dealers auction, I need something bigger anyway. Take a look at the picks, the cab is solid, no rust, the bed had rust and my uncle who drove it the past 10 of the last 12 years did his own bodywork on it, lol. It didn't bother me because it is a work truck and get's used daily and not a show truck. This is a solid truck that has been a soldier for me and never ever let me down! It has a newer exhaust system, he had it put on to pass PA inspection, he had put new brakes, rotors, and drove it daily. Interior is in good shape for the year of the truck, take a look at the pics. I have the matching factory rim that goes on the drivers side, I caught a flat and never put it back on. I have a fiberglass cap that you can have for free that matches the rest of the truck if you want it. It starts and runs but if left to idle for a long period will over heat,*****IT NEEDS A HEAD GASKET***** I would not take the chance of driving it home, so it would be best to tow it. Replace the head gasket and you have yourself a great work truck or rock crawler or whatever. If it does not sell I'll put a head gasket on it and put it back into use. THE BED HAS NO RUST ON THE INSIDE OR TAILGATE, BUT THE BED SIDES HAD RUST AND MY UNCLE DID A CRAPPY JOB WITH SHEET METAL AND BONDO IT LOOKS LIKE SHIT BUT IT PASSED INSPECTION. SO YOU CAN YOU CAN LEAVE IT LIKE THAT OR YOU COULD ACTUALLY REPLACE BOTH QUARTERS, I KNOW THEY SELL THEM AFTERMARKET, YOU CAN ALSO REPLACE THE BED BUT THEY ARE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND WITHOUT ANY RUST. THEY DO MAKE THEM OUT OF FIBERGLASS AS WELL. SO PLEASE KNOW THE BED IS AND WAS USED FOR WORK. THIS TRUCK CAN BE BROUGHT BACK AND MADE INTO A VERY NICE TRUCK FOR NOT MUCH MONEY IF YOU DO THE WORK YOURSELF.
