Vehicle Detail
HELLO TO ALL. THIS IS MY DAD'S BABY AND HE'S BEEN WORKING ON IT AND DRIVING IT FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF YEARS. STARTS RIGHT UP AND IS A GREAT LOOKING AND SOUNDING NOSTALGIA CRUISER. The fellow that we got it from in Colorado had the car for a long time in his family and basically did the mechanical part by making sure the car was reliable enough and started up consistently and ran good. He installed the tri-power setup and tuned the carburetors. He rebuilt the current 355ci motor (350 bored 0.030 over) in the mid-late 1990s and did a bunch of mechanical and tune-up style upgrades and service work. The brakes were UPGRADED to power DISCs up front, and NEW springs and KYB gas shocks were installed. When my dad got it, he took it to the local body shop guy and basically had a lot of little rust spots and clusters taken care of, and ended up repainting most of the car and it looks great! We also installed a set of old school style chrome wheels with baby moon caps and NEW tires and spruced up the interior a bit. Body is very nice and straight with very few waves in it. Doors open and close nicely. Gaps are all good from what I could see and panel fit is pretty good overall for a 50s car. Mechanically it fires right up and sounds great. Transmission shifts seamlessly without any issues. Now as for driving the car, my dad has taken it out mostly around the neighborhood here and there for a few functions, every once in a while I take it to a local cruise night. A couple of times a year we took it out of state camping. Transmission shifts great, brakes work nicely, steers very well and overall I would feel confident taking the car anywhere. Motor is a 350ci that has been bored 0.030 over and has some mild internal upgrades while appearing basically all stock from the outside (with the exception of the tri-power setup). Like I said, you could get in and drive this car anywhere in my opinion, but I would have it gone through to be sure before you play a 1000+ mile trip in it. Interior is very presentable for a driver as you can see. No real eye sores. Missing passenger side armrest pad, that's about it. Underside is typical for a car this old. Floors appear to have been patched with sheetmetal in a couple of areas and although solid, they should be redone properly to do it justice. Frame appears excellent with no holes or any major rot that we were able to spot. THIS 1958 CHEVY IS NOT PERFECT, SO PLEASE LOOK AT PICTURES, ASK QUESTIONS OR COME SEE IT IN PERSON. Paint is in FAIRLY GOOD shape and cleans up nicely but it is NOT show quality or anywhere near it. Was professionally done by local bodyshop and has good shine and luster in most areas except for the hood which was not repainted by matches up good. Not working: horn, clock, perhaps a bulb or two may need replacing and maybe a gauge or two stopped working since we've had it. Inside door jambs (where doors meet the fenders) do have a few specks of rust and should be taken care of down the road. So overall she is nowhere near perfect and will need some form of TLC depending on how nice you want it to be and what you plan to do with the car. If you just want a NICE DRIVER needing minor tlc, this is the car for you. If you want a show car, it will need some serious investment to bring it up to that level of course. I ENCOURAGE ANYONE BIDDING OR SERIOUSLY INTERESTED TO COME LOOK AT IT IN PERSON. I WILL BE GLAD TO SHOW IT TO YOU TOP TO BOTTOM SO YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE GETTING INTO. AT THE VERY LEAST TAKE A LOOK AT ALL THE ADDITIONAL PICTURES ON THE LINK ABOVE.
