Vehicle Detail
ESW presents this 1939 Packard Twelve 1707 model on a 134 inch wheelbase. This Packard was bought by a car collector years ago as an unrestored rust free original and complete car. Now in his 80's, he realized he was not going to be able to finish the project and it is now for sale. Over the last 5 or more years, the car was disassembled and restoration was started. The elderly collector pulled the original engine out and put in a 1938 Packard 12 block he had in his shop I have the original block and it will be included if the buyer wants it. The reason he used the "38 engine wsa because the '38 was a "tighter engine". The collector rebuilt the enginc as needed. New pistons, rings, valves. Bearings and crank were within specs and not touched. It has aluminum heads, intake and exhaust manifold have new ceramic or porcelain finish. New $800.00 oil filter canister installed, but needs to be braced for vibration. Carburetor, gas tank, radiator, redone as needed and gas tank has new interior coating. Engine was finished about two months ago and starts very easily, and runs cool idling for half an hour. Idles a bit fast, linkage out adjustment? Packard mechanic tested vacuum and recorded a 17psi and oil pressure tested at 50psi per mechanic who rebuilt the engine. I detect a slight lifter tick which may disappear with use, but is there. The body was not taken off the frame, and collector said that the body was very straight with little work needed. It has been painted Packard Blue, but needs to be redone. Front fenders are installed temporarily to transport. Interior seats have been reworked and upholstered. Door panels reupholstered, but moths or mice have slightly damaged two of the panels. Dash has been regarined, but gauges have not been touched. A new wiring harness in included with turn signals added. Six cloisonné 12 hubcaps included along with Hisrch hubcaps. Chrome has been redone on bumpers, and cleans up nice. Frame from cowl forward has been cleaned, but has not from cowl back. brakes have not been touched. Glass is original, and I have the windshield glass and rear window for patterns. Take a look at the pictures and click on the PhotoBucket link. If you don't see something, ask me about it. The collector paid $23,000 for the unrestored car and has spent another $20,000 to this point. The Packard drives, but does not have working brakes. I have clear Calif. title in hand and has been under non operative registration. The car is located in North San Diego County, California. I can help assist with shipping. Shipping costs to be paid by buyer. If you have any questions or would like to inspect it in person please give me a call. Rick @ 619-913-4289.
