Vehicle Detail
Note to prospective buyers: READ EVERYTHING BELOW BEFORE BIDDING. I'm dropping the price to $599.99, in order to move it quickly. But that's where it will stay. If you want an ugly car that drives, now's your chance! ALSO-- I forgot to mention the windshield auto-glass has about an inch-sized crack above the steering wheel. It's been there for several years, but it's something I forgot about to mention, when I listed the "KNOWN PROBLEMS" below. So, I've taken another $100 off the original price of $699.99. I've tried to price this car attractively (I believe/hope you'll agree that it's well under what you could buy another similar condition car for) and also be as honest as possible about everything to do with this car--all known issues. And I feel like I'm a reasonable person. BUT if you tell me after paying that you didn't realize something that I CLEARLY addressed above and below, then I will NOT refund your $500 deposit, and re-list this. Once you "buy-it-now" the car is yours. You can pay the other $100 in cash or Cashier's Check when you pick this up. But if you decide you don't want it, then you can re-sell it to someone else, just as easily as I can. So MAKE SURE you read everything below, before bidding--so you (and I) don't have any surprises! THIS IS A RE-LISTING DUE TO PRIOR AUCTION HIGH BIDDER NOT MAKING PAYMENT AND NOT CONTACTING ME. OVERVIEW: This listing is for a used Grand Marquis in poor body condition, **but still drives without problem**. I've owned the car since 2004, when I bought it with 52K miles on it back then, and am/was the second owner. It was recently in a wreck (My son was side-swiped on the passenger side, by a distracted driver) and the body repair costs to that passenger side were estimated to be more than the value of the car. Airbags did NOT deploy. The title is still a regular title, so this is NOT a salvage titled car (we have continued to drive the car since the accident with no issues). This means you can re-title and register it just like any other car, and drive it the same day without problem, if you live in Kentucky, like me. BUT if you live in a different state, check out your own laws on drive-able wrecked cars (whether you need any special inspections, etc.), because I have no idea about other states' laws. And not to be difficult, but just know in advance that I won't refund the auction price if you have some problem with this. Hopefully your state is like mine, but I can't help it if it isn't. BODY CONDITION both inside and out: As seen in the photos, the passenger side is very banged-up and the doors are inoperable. There's duct tape at the top of the doors to keep wind/rain out. There are also some less noticeable scrapes and dent on the other side of the car from earlier events prior to the passenger-side wreck-- for instance, someone backed into the rear driver-side door (dented) and rear quarter panel (scraped over wheel), and other cars' doors have been opened into the car doors on this car, leaving dings. The front driver door has some paint chipped at top of door. Don't expect the body to look great up-close, because it doesn't. It has flaws like most old cars would that have been driven a lot. From a distance, it looks okay except for the passenger side, due to this recent accident. Interior is blue leather, and has normal wear for being 14 years old. However, there are some rips in the leather (especially where driver sits, there are some pretty good size rips--see the pictures) as well as both wear (worn carpet down near gas pedals) and stains on the carpet from beverage spills (I think that's all they are, but just assume they're oil or grease so you won't be disappointed if some stains might not come out, because I haven't tried to remove them, and can't guarantee they'll come out). NO KNOWN MECHANICAL ISSUES: My son had the transmission and engine inspected within the last year and a half and there were no problems. He also replaced four of the ignition coils last summer, and the AC compressor a year before that. It has NOT been driven roughly and the engine has been well-maintained. AC blows cold. Heater works well. Brakes work. Tires are good. There's both a Cassette/Radio unit (currently in dash and working well), AND a CD/Radio unit (not installed but also works well) that come with this car. Both easily pop-out and can be switched to the other. So you can keep one and sell one, and/or swap them out whenever you want, depending on whether you want a cassette or CD player to go with the radio. KNOWN PROBLEMS: You have to switch the heat to AC and vice-versa every fall/spring because the dash panel temperature gauges do not work. Instead, there's a place under the glove compartment that has to be re-set to allow for either heat or AC. So you can't switch back and forth from heat to AC while you're driving the car. You're stuck with one or the other until you park it. It's not hard to manually change it, but it takes less than five minutes, with the car parked. And so while driving it, you don't get to mix hot/cold air flow, which can be annoying-- it either blows fully cold, or it blows fully hot. (But you can still adjust the fan speed from low to high, and adjust which vents air blows through, like normal.) The key-less entry does not work. Battery holds a charge if you drive it regularly, but if you let it sit for several days, you may have to jump the battery. Cigarette Lighter is loose, but works. Due to the damage on the passenger side from the wreck, the passenger front wheel-well was slightly bent-in, so that if a large bump is hit, sometimes the body of the car can make slight contact. This hasn't led to wear on the tire or any other problems, but it can make for a strange noise. SUMMARY: The car is ugly. But it works. My son used it as his only source of reliable transportation prior to it getting side-swiped. If he hadn't gotten enough money from the payment and savings to buy a newer car, he'd still be driving it. It ran reliably for him, and he drove it locally to college, and also back and forth from Lexington, KY to Washington DC (and then there locally) for an internship. He maintained it well mechanically (didn't vacuum or clean it too often, though), to avoid any problems because it was his only transportation. In its current condition, you can drive it to work or school, or anyplace else, without having to spend money to make it drive-able. So, if you just blew out the engine of your car, and you need something to get you back and forth for a while until you save enough to buy a better car, this could be a good option. My guess is that you could sell it, or trade it in to a dealer, within the next year any time, for the same, or MORE than the same price you can purchase it for now, as long as you continue to maintain it. But that's just my honest guess. I could be wrong. And, like any used cars with private sellers and buyers, THERE ARE NO WARRANTIES OR GUARANTEES about anything with the car, for any reason, after you buy it.
