Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1968 Chevy Camaro RS convertible project early into a restoration. As much as I would love to keep this rare, vintage car, the Navy is uprooting me yet again and realistically I just cannot keep hauling this around. This is an authentic RS, not an SS, but does not have the original engine/transmission. The only history I have on this car is that it was purchased in Tennessee in the early 2,000's before I bought it in 2007. It was stored indoors until 2010 when I trailered it to San Diego. It ran at that time, although it needed some work. The vehicle was then stored covered outdoors until this past summer when I began deconstruction. The car is approximately 95% dismantled and I held on to all the pieces that came off except obviously trashed consumable parts. As expected for a convertible of this age, the vehicle has rust. It will need replacement floor and trunk pan, rear quarter panels, metal work around the windshield and door jams, and spot work in other areas. The firewall, hood, tail panel, and deck lid are in good shape. The convertible frame is complete and intact and the front clip is straight. The car has a 10-bolt rear-end, manual 4-speed Saginaw transmission with center console, and a pre-86 350 V8 out of a Chevy Monza. The engine's bottom end has been cleaned and reworked at a machine shop, bored 40 over, crank polished and balanced and is ready to go back together with new pistons, rings, and a mild cam Comp Performance cam. I have the original heads and cast iron manifold. If the winning bidder does not need/want the engine/transmission I'm sure we can work something out. I sandblasted and spray painted a few minor parts including the upper and lower control arms which have new ball joints. I also began reassembly on the steering system, using original-style inner/outer tie rods and idler arm from Classic Industries. I sold the Center Line wheels after taking these pictures so basic 14-inch wheels will be substituted. The vehicle is available for viewing at Donahue Automotive in El Cajon, California Monday through Friday 9 am-5 pm and on the occasional Saturday by appointment (Google his shop for more details). Pat Donahue, the owner, is a great guy with years of experience in the industry and will be happy to have you in the shop to take a look and ask questions. The photographs depict the car in its current state and the final photo shows how it looked in August before deconstruction. I have tried to be as thorough but brief as possible in this write-up but please feel to contact me with any additional questions you may have. It will be the buyer's responsibility to arrange transportation of the vehicle and I am happy to help if I can. I am a seller with 100% positive feedback so bid with confidence. Thanks and good luck. I hope one of you can turn this project back into the beautiful car it once was.On Dec-29-12 at 19:09:56 PST, seller added the following information: Please note the car is currently not a rolling chassis but, unless the winning bidder would rather I not, I will reinstall the upper and lower A-arms and other necessary parts to get front wheels back on the car. Also, I will credit $1,000 back to the buyer off the winning bid if the engine/transmission is not wanted. Thanks.
