Vehicle Detail
’71 Ranger Pickup This is long with a lot of detailed information. If you want to have what you need to make a good decision, I recommend taking the time. This truck is original and unrestored with the exception of one repaint. It was purchased new in 1971 by some dear friends of mine and I have been familiar with it for years. He passed away earlier this year and was retired for much of the life of this truck. It was not his primary vehicle. The truck was kept in the garage for many years before being moved to the carport. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and the truck had a slide in cab over camper on it since it was new. Pretty much all of this truck’s life was spent as an RV and never really used as a truck. Most of the miles were put on this truck making the 150 mile round trip to one of the nearby lakes and for vacation trips to Mexico and U.S. destinations. He drilled some small holes in the bed floor. I assume it was to help keep any moisture drained off. If this is the case, it worked because the bed floor has never had any rust through and looks really nice. The camper served to protect the bed. The only victim of the camper was the original tailgate. It was used as sort of a porch over the years and ended up having to be replaced with a nice rust free original. This truck was only driven by him. I’m not sure if anyone besides him ever drove it even once. It has never been driven, run hard or abused at all. Also comes with the original title issued March 04, 1971. Miles This truck was strictly his domain and she knows very little about it. The odometer shows 40,043.4 miles at the time of this listing. This might be over, but that knowledge died with him. I can tell you this much, he was one of those men who kept meticulous maintenance on this truck. In my opinion, it drives like a 40,043.4 miles truck. It is tight with only minor slack in the steering and there are no rattles or squeaks. There is no slack in the doors. They shut tightly, like new with that nice sound the doors on these trucks make. The latches are tight. The door locks need lubricating, I would assume from lack of use. Equipment -302 C.I. Motor (Original) -C-6 Automatic Transmission (Original) -Air Conditioning The air conditioning is not working at this point. I had the belt reinstalled and the idler pulley was noisy at first, but is getting quieter. Everything is there for the A/C. The blower works and the compressor switch clicks, indicating that it will work. The issue with it appears to be the condenser core. That seems to be the problem and in my opinion, if you replace it, the air will work just fine. -AM/FM Cassette Radio. (Does not work) I will go over before end of auction and look through his shed to see if I can find the original. I would think that is it there somewhere, but cannot be sure at this time. If I find it, it will come to you with the truck. Vehicle Condition Motor Excellent! The original 302 is very strong. It burns no oil, no blow by, weird noises or oil on the driveway. It does have a some hesitation on takeoff, but the truck needs to be driven. The old man was sick with cancer for the last several years of his life, so it saw little driving. He did make effort to drive it on short runs to the store or wherever, at least once per month, just to keep it up. I don’t think he was able to do this for the last 2 or 3 years. Transmission Excellent! The transmission is very tight. It shifts smooth and strong every time with no leaks at this time. Rear End & Drive shaft Excellent! Brakes Seem to Be Excellent! I haven’t had the brakes pulled down and inspected, but it stops just fine and makes no noise. It does have a good peddle. Tires Excellent! I’m not sure how old the P-235’s are, but they have no dry rot, bulges or hard spots. The tread is deep and shows even wear. I don’t think there are any issues with them. The spare also looks good and holds air. Exhaust Good Condition! Single exhaust with no holes or leaks. Suspension The suspension seems to be excellent and the truck sits up nicely. There are no spacers in the springs and all seems well here. Body Excellent! The body is in very nice condition. It has never been wrecked. There is not rust at all that I can find or am aware of. There are some ripples visible on the surface of the hood. I attempted to show this in the photos, but they don't show up very well. The best I can figure is that there must have been a tree limb that may have possibly dinged it or something along those lines. It is only on the surface of the hood. In my opinion, it is overall pretty minor, but felt that I needed to bring it in here. Paint Excellent Overall! The paint looks very nice. It was painted one time in the original color with the exception of the white which was added when the truck was painted. At that time, it was stripped to bare metal and painted in base and clear coats. It is my understanding that until that point, there had never been any paint or body work performed on the truck at all. There are minor imperfections in the paint, but still looks great. Bright Work Very nice! It has minor imperfections, but a very nice shine. At one time there were driving lights installed in the front bumper, so there are some small holes. The bumper also has small scratches. The Ranger tailgate trim was never installed in the replaced gate. I will go over and attempt to locate it. If I find it, that piece will be included or I may have it installed on the truck before it is picked up by you or your carrier. Glass Very Nice Overall! There are some scratches, but nothing major. No chips that I can think of and no cracks at all. Interior Excellent! The interior is all original right down to the rubber mat. The dash pad, sun visors, headliner, door panels, floor mat and seat are in beautiful condition. There are 3 or 4 small flaws on the seat, but does not look bad at all, as can be seen in the photos. There are also two holes in the speaker grille on the dash where he once has something mounted. With the interior being so nice and so original none of this is really an issue in my opinion and very minor. It is just a very nice original interior. In Summary This is a very nice mainly original pickup and one that has been well kept. In my opinion, it is one that should be a pleasure to own, not perfect, but very nice.
