Vehicle Detail
HELLO TO ALL. THIS IS A 1950 MERCURY 4 DOOR WITH SUICIDE DOORS AND IS A FAIRLY RARE CAR TO FIND NOWADAYS IN NEARLY 100% STOCK CONDITION WITH MATCHING NUMBERS 255CI FLATHEAD V8 AND 3 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. TURN-KEY AND READY TO GO ANYWHERE. My husband and I purchased it in North Carolina a couple of years ago, while down there for the classic car show at Lowe's Motor Speedway. We always wanted either a 49-51 Mercury to use, and since prices on them (especially the nicely customized ones) have been skyrocketing, it's been difficult...if not impossible finding one priced reasonably that was reliable enough to be used daily. Once we got it back to NY, we garaged it and worked on it a little at a time, turning it into what it is today, a very presentable and cool driver. Body is very nice and straight with very few waves in it. Doors open and close nicely. Gaps are all good from what I could see and panel fit is pretty good overall for an old Mercury. Mechanically the MATCHING NUMBERS 255ci Flathead V8 in it fires right up and sounds great. Transmission is the stock 3 speed manual ("three on the tree") and shifts seamlessly without any issues and a good clutch. Now as for driving the car, i've taken it out mostly around the neighborhood here and there for a few functions, and sometimes we take it to the Island for a cruise. Brakes work well. Steers nice and swift without too much play in the wheel. Overall very sound and reliable car that can be used daily without worries. I would feel comfortable driving this car long distances without a doubt in my mind. Interior has been nearly completely redone in stock fashion some time ago. Seats were reupholstered, door panels redone, carpet replaced. May have the original headliner. Nice dash with nearly everything working!. Overall a very nice driver quality interior. Underside is very nice and dry overall, being an original North Carolina car. SOLID frame. GOOD original floors from what I could see. No real eye sores other than some rust under the front rockers under the front fenders, nothing that a small patch couldn't fix. Nothing else stands out. Nice and dry underneath. Very solid. Trunk is nice and clean as well. THIS 1950 MERCURY IS NOT PERFECT, SO PLEASE LOOK AT PICTURES, ASK QUESTIONS OR COME SEE IT IN PERSON. Paint is in FAIR shape and cleans up fairly well for a driver with normal imperfections (shows slightly better in pictures than in real life, so please keep that in mind). The issues with this car are mostly aesthetic. Paint is getting a little thin in a few areas, and looks like the trunk lid was repainted some time and doesn't match perfectly (to do it justice I would repaint the car, but it looks fairly good the way it sits). There are various other small issues with it, as with any other old car, and i'm not gonna sit here and list them all as it would be no point. So overall she is nowhere near perfect and will need some form of TLC depending on how nice you want it to be and what you plan to do with the car. If you just want a NICELY PRESENTABLE DRIVER needing some minor tlc, this is the car for you. If you want a show car, it will need some serious investment to bring it up to that level of course. I ENCOURAGE ANYONE BIDDING OR SERIOUSLY INTERESTED TO COME LOOK AT IT IN PERSON. I WILL BE GLAD TO SHOW IT TO YOU TOP TO BOTTOM SO YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE GETTING INTO. AT THE VERY LEAST TAKE A LOOK AT ALL THE ADDITIONAL PICTURES ON THE LINK ABOVE.
