Up for bid is this amazing survivor 1978 Ford Fairmont Futura. 1978 was the first year for the Fairmont and the Futura was the top-of-the-line (sporty) model. Fairmonts were available with three engine choices: a four-cylinder, straight six or the 302 CI eight cylinder. This Futura is equipped with the 5.0 Liter 302 V8, automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, AM radio, two-tone paint and alloy wheels. This Futura has been in the Northern California (Sacramento) area it's entire life, there is no rust anywhere on the car. This car was sold originally as a demonstrator in early 1979 with 10,000 miles on it, which were all put on by Dan Marks Ford in Elk Grove, CA. The original purchasers of this Futura owned the car up until early 2012, at which time it was sold to her handyman/contractor. We were told she was 99 years old at the time she got rid of the car. He kept the car a short time and never drove it which is how we acquired it. We have two original warranty cards for the car along with the original owner's manual and pouch, etc. We also have some of the early maintenance records for the car. We do have most of the registration cards for the car from 1979 until 2012, showing the same owner. The Futura still has it's original blue/yellow California plates that were issued to it when new. Please see photographs below. The odometer shows 83,139. We were told that the mileage is original. Based on the condition of the car, we believe it to be true. Due to the age of the car, however, it is being sold as mileage exempt. The body of the car is very straight with only minor dings and dents. The worst is near the right-hand taillight which broke the edge of the taillight as well. The paint looks to be all original except for the right fender which was repainted at some point. The paint shines very well, and there is NO RUST. The interior is in very good original condition. The driver's seat does have some minor wear on the outer vinyl bolster and the carpet shows some wear on the driver's side. The rest of the interior is in very good original condition. At some point, the lady who owned the car bought some new replacement plaid cloth insert material, if ever needed. It is included in the trunk. Also included is a carpeted dashmat, however the original dash is not cracked. As you can see, the spare tire is a Firestone White-Letter Radial which looks like it's never been on the ground. We assume is the original tire. Mechanically this Futura runs great. It is surprising the amount of power that the 302 V8 has. We have a receipt showing that the transmission was fully rebuilt in 2007 with 70,000 miles. The car is equipped with factory air conditioning. The compressor does turn on and spin but the air does not blow cold. All the accessories, lights, etc. work as they should. I didn't go over every inch of the car inside and out, but tried to accurately describe the major points. The vehicle can be stored free of charge for up to two weeks after the auction has ended, or longer with prior notification and agreement. Vehicles left past the agreed storage date are subject to a $15.00 per day storage fee. We are open for vehicle pick up during the week. We are not open on the weekend, but can make an exception with prior arrangement. Sorry but we spend weekends with our families. VEHICLE REGISTRATION, SALES TAX, SMOG, FEES, ETC: We are a licensed California auto dealer. The state requires that if you're out of state and plan on coming here to pick up the vehicle, you need to know that California law REQUIRES the buyer to pay sales tax, registration, and smog fee's if they pick up the car and drive it away. This is still the LAW even if you put the car on your trailer and it never touches the California roadway. If you're out of state, avoid can avoid all of these required fees by having your car shipped to your state. This in most cases is less expensive anyway by the time you figure gas, lodging, and other expenses. If you're an out of state buyer but picking up the vehicle and driving home, we can reduce the state required registration to a $16.00 one trip permit, but the other fees will still apply. If you are a California resident, we collect sales tax, registration fee, and a $58.25 smog inspection fee (if applicable). We then provide you with temporary registration in the window so you can legally drive the vehicle until your title and license plates arrive in the mail. All sales require a $55.00 DMV and paperwork fee. This covers the costs of our mailings of the title, bill of sale, license plates if required, and going to the DMV for you on your behalf. PAYMENT INFORMATION: Please follow the rules of the auction after it is completed, regarding deposit and full payment deadlines. Anyone not following through with the auction will be reported to Ebay and NEGATIVE FEEDBACK will be left. There is a clear title on the vehicle. A non-refundable deposit of $500.00 must be received by me within 24 hours of the close of auction via Paypal, money order, or cashiers check, sent via overnight express mail. After that, full payment needs to have been received within the next five business days of the close of auction. WE DO NOT ACCEPT PAYPAL AS PAYMENT FOR THE BALANCE DUE. In other words, full payment balance after deposit is due 5 business days after the auction close date, and must be paid via cash (in person only for cash), cashiers check, or money order.
