Vehicle Detail

1951 Hillman Minx Mark IV Convertible: This is really a 'barn find' vehicle with some brake work completed recently. Car was stored near the Finger Lakes Region until last year. Car features Burgundy Leather Bucket seats, manual column shift transmission, manual convertible top , quaint Semaphore Directionals, Convertible has three positions including: Up, Cabriolet position, Fully down. Electrical system is 12 volt. Odometer reads:32631. Car shows no evidence of salt exposure. Last owner told me car was always stored inside and was in storage near Finger Lakes for many decades prior to last year. Car uses Whitworth hardware - I will include a set of Whitworth sockets and wrenches with sale of car. Condition of vehicle: The body is quite solid showing a few areas of surface rust. A few seam areas show thicker decay. The floor and trunk pans have no holes or repairs. There is a metal protective shelf under the car that has some through rust due to sand collection on it. The convertible top bows/mechanism is all there. The original appearing 4 Cyl. motor turns by hand. The seat leather is largely intact but stiff, dry, and with a few gaps. Red floor carpeting is decayed, very worn. White interior paint worn. Exterior paint probably original with areas of damage and decay. The windows are in very good, clear condition. The windshield has large vertical crack on passenger side. All engine accessories are present but aged. Tires seem pretty decent. Glass rear window is in great shape; Original tan convertible material was so decayed, I disposed of it but I will include some saved pieces for use as reference for color and material. It was originally tan. History of Hillman Cars: Hillman cars became popular in the US after WWII as soldiers overseas had become fond of them and also because of their better fuel efficiency; gas prices rose in the 1950's in the US. This model, the Mark IV convertible was very popular. An identical version was sold in Great Britain except that the US version had a left sided steering wheel. You can buy scale models of this version and this model was used in a number of movies in the 1950's - in one it was a Chauffer Driven car in Italy. If you have any questions please email me.
