Vehicle Detail
For sale is a 1981 Mercedes Benz 380SL. It is sold as not running, I can assist the buyer with shipping if needed. Car is as-is. The car and mileage are Carfax certified. It has been in my possession for roughly 10 years. California car, I'm third owner. Over the past 10 years it was driven occasionally the first few years and since has been sitting. The majority of the issues with the car have come from the fact it has been sitting. My mechanic advised that the majority of the drive train seals needed replacing. I had everything done. The fuel system has also been cleaned and the injectors replaced. Brakes are also new, tires have good tread but are aged. The fuel distributor head, and idle speed control unit were also done recently. As can be seen from the photos, the paint is original and no work has been done, however there are few small scratches on the driver side fender. The exhaust hanger strap will need replacing (see pic), the passengers door will need some putting back together, because of a problem with the window. Please look at all the pictures. This car currently needs: spare tire, battery and distributor cap. There may be more parts needed, it is being sold as is although engine/transmission never had any issues. A tune-up would go a long ways. The hardtop is in great shape with no problems, the soft top has also almost always been stowed and there is a small crack through the back plastic window of the soft top, no tears or holes in the fabric. Bidding is not a game. If you win, I expect fast payment. On Nov-28-12 at 12:27:44 PST, seller added the following information: The last time I tried it would crank but not start. My mechanic is saying that most likely fixing the fuel pump will get it running. The timing chain has been replaced with a dual chain and I have a Kodak photo from the previous owner to prove this. The door panel I believe was in the back seat, I will check. The radio is aftermarket but the Oem radio is considerably easy to find for a good price as many models of Benz at the time used the same radio. On Nov-28-12 at 13:22:29 PST, seller added the following information: The door panel is also in the backseat (not pictured) but its included. Just needs adding to the door itself after fixing the window track.
