Please make sure that you have funds to secure the car before making an offer. Although it was supposed to debut in 1967, the all-new Stingray was delayed a year, making 1968 Corvettes the first year. Many experts would agree that it took Chevrolet a year to work the kinks out and that 1969 is the first year to have of the C3 generation. This ’69 Stingray roadster packs its numbers-matching L36, a Muncie M21 4-speed manual, and both tops, not to mention a gorgeous orange-on-black finish that screams Corvette performance. Many Corvette enthusiasts regard the ‘69s as the purest of the C3 design, with delicate chrome bumpers, that swoopy bodywork, and the squared-off tail. This one has been beautifully restored using the correct rare code Monaco Orange. Panels are in excellent condition. The Monaco Orange paint is brilliant, deep and rich. The factory big block hood remains, and despite being on such an eye-popping design, it’s somewhat more subdued than the big block stinger hoods of the outgoing C2 models. Chrome was still in fashion in 1969, and the Stingray sports quite a bit. The rear bumpers have been refinished, and the front has been polished to a high shine. The big block hood sports subtle chrome-ringed vents and correct 427 badges, as well as crossed-flag emblems on the gas cap. The stainless windshield surround has been polished, and the windshield itself is new, along with the side window glass. Details like the lenses and even the single driver’s side mirror have been refinished or replaced with quality reproduction items. If you’re shopping for an early C3, the one you want if you plan to drive it is definitely the L36 427/390, and those with the greatest investment potential are cars with documented matching numbers. This one is matching numbers throughout. The engine was primarily rebuilt by Davies Corvette in Florida, and uses the original block as its foundation. GM dressed the L36 with plenty of flash, including chrome valve covers and that distinctive 427 stickered air cleaner. The instant you turn the key on this one, you’ll understand why the 427 is legendary. The original M21 4-speed manual lives behind the 427, and hangs on the original bell housing. Out back, the original rear end even carries the original 3.36 gear set. The rest of the chassis has been thoughtfully maintained with the intention of driving this mighty big block Corvette on the road. There are rebuilt trailing arms, new shocks, new tie rod ends, and new sway bar bushing and ball joints. The exhaust follows the stock configuration and the combination of the engine and the mufflers out back sound amazing. In addition, there is a newly rebuilt carburetor, new gas tank, new exhaust, new brake rotors, and stainless steel calipers. The original frame has been painted black to match the engine compartment, making it low-maintenance. Wheels are beautiful deep-dish rally-style with Corvette center caps wearing 15 inch Firestone whitewalls (what they wore in the 1969 Corvette brochure). Equally stunning is the black vinyl interior, which is an excellent offset to the body. The perforated vinyl is both comfortable and stylish, and the seats themselves have a very inviting, lived-in look that makes you want to slide behind the wheel and run the 427 through the gears. The console and dash have , and all the gauges are fully functional. The door panels were replaced as well, and feature bright stainless detailing and knobs. Black carpets with new black floor mats, that match the new Al Knoch convertible soft top overhead (still has the tag on). As mentioned earlier, this is a two top car, so a matching orange hardtop that was painted at the same time as the body is also included. Factory upgrades include tinted glass, headrests, power steering, power brakes, and AM/FM radio. Documentation includes a book of recent receipts totalling almost $10,000 and the tank sticker. It also includes a 1969 Corvette Manual, a Corvette brochure from 1969. You will not likely find a nicer, matching-numbers L36 roadster for less money anywhere. Correctly finished in its original colors, with the optional hardtop and many of functional updates, this is a driver’s 427. Forget investments for a moment and think about the sound of the carburetor at wide-open throttle, bellowing through the exhaust system. Nevertheless, it’s docile enough to drive every day, although you’ll probably find that people can’t keep their eyes off the brilliant orange finish. If you’re looking for a big block Vette that is an investment that you can actually drive and enjoy, here it is, and for a bargain price.
