The 1971 was the last and best year for the “113 body style”, and features power steering. She has been sympathetically restored over the years, and remains in excellent “driver quality” condition. The cosmetics on the car are good. The MERCEDES DUNKELGRUN (dark green, code # 268H) paint shows well, though it’s a little thick, in addition there is some orange peel, mild bubbling on the rear valence by the exhaust system and some road chips around the car. The chrome and body trim is in excellent condition, and she comes with both the hard and soft tops. The engine and transmission are the strong point of the car. The motor appears to have been rebuilt, and the exhaust system and suspension were redone as well. She has been well maintained, and it shows. Compression is excellent, the fuel injection pump is new ($$$), and the engine starts easily, runs smoothly, and puts out good power and torque. Likewise, the transmission is excellent, and shifts just as she should. This is one of the best driving 280sl’s we ever driven. The interior wood is original, and could be refinished. She runs and drives as well as any 280sl we have driven. The COGNAC interior is in nice driver condition, the seats were redone and are excellent. The carpets are original, and the instrument bezel shows shrinking and age crack, all of the gauges work. The heater controls and seat adjusters work properly. If you have been looking for a good “DRIVER QUALITY 280SL”, look no further. Priced to sell, all she needs is an enthusiastic new owner.
