1989 Mercedes-Benz 560SL Extremely Nice Example Beautiful color combination. Description 1989 Mercedes-Benz 560SL Roadster - 100 photos of this car below, be sure to use your browser's inner scroll bar to scroll through all the photos. This is NOT another over priced beater 560SL... This car is in extremely nice condition... both mechanically and cosmetically, inside, out and underneath and under the hood. It is an excellent example of the last of the R107 body SLs. Read the description, look at all 100 photos and feel free to give me a call. Exterior is Garnet Red Metallic (paint code 512), interior is tan leather. 65,722 original miles. It has benefited from recent mechanical work, this Spring, just after its most recent owner acquired it from a gentleman in Florida and brought it to Minnesota for the Summer the following items were done to the car: 4 brand new tires installed in April ($552). They have only covered a couple of hundred miles since they were mounted and balanced. A new catalytic converter, muffler and associated exhaust system gaskets were installed in April ($2,281). Installation of new radiator in May ($914.54). I just picked it up from a local Mercedes-Benz specialty shop, Huber's Imported Car Service in Minneapolis, where they replaced the front left tie rod assembly and performed a 4 wheel alignment (approx. $325.00). Clean Carfax, no stories car, no accidents. This car is ready to go anywhere at a moment's notice.Exterior: Garnet Red Metallic (paint code 512) was a fairly rare SL color (not to be confused with Cabernet red). The exterior of this car is in great condition with minimal flaws, I tried to clearly point out every flaw I could find on the body in the photos. The paint on the car is largely original. It looks like the hood of the car has been painted, there just aren't enough rock chips to believe it's original and close inspection with the hood open reveals evidence of faint tape marks on the hood edges. The chrome and stainless all the way around the car is in excellent condition. No pitting (like you see on so many Florida cars, due to salty air), the stainless and chrome gleam. The glass in the car is good all the way around. The hard top is in excellent condition. The convertible top is in very good shape as well, although the back windows of the top are yellowed at this point. They are solid, there are no rips or tears or cracks in the plastic windows of the soft top. The wheels look great, no curb rash. The underside of the car looks excellent, look closely at the front suspension pieces, rubber and metal, it is all very clean and tidy... a little dusty, but you can see the original finishes on many pieces. Cleaner than most 107 SLs you'll see. Interior: The leather on this car is soft and supple, it appears completely original, it doesn't look like it's ever been re-dyed. The seats show a mild patina, commensurate with the age and mileage of the car. There are detailed photos of the seats bolsters and backs below, look at them closely. They aren't overly worn and chewed up like most 560SLs you see. The carpets are ridiculous... you will see that there are aftermarket floor mats, but underneath those, you have what appears to be the original dealer protective film on the original carpet. I peeled up one corner (see photo below) and it doesn't look like that carpet has ever seen the light of day. The dash is perfect, no cracks, the wood is excellent, no cracks, everything works... A/C blows hard and cold, aftermarket Kenwood radio works, antenna even goes up and down as it should. There is no evidence of the original Becker radio. The headliner of the hard top is in excellent condition, as is the glass. It is clean, clean, clean inside. No weird smells, the ash tray and lighter have never been used. Mechanical: The car runs and drives extremely well. It accelerates quickly and cruises quickly as a 107 should. It brakes straight without pulling to either side, it was just aligned today, it drives straight and true. It handles curves well, it's a real pleasure to drive. This is one of the finest examples of a 560SL I've ever had the pleasure of working with... so, why is it being sold? It's a sad story. The last owner of this car was referred to me earlier this year by someone in the local Mercedes-Benz Club, Twin Cities Section here in Minneapolis. This gentleman called me, told me it was his dream to get a 450SL. He also told me that he had stage 4 lung cancer... this was back in about February or March of this year. We talked, I asked him about his budget and suggested he consider a 560SL, as they're really better cars than the 450SLs, in every way. He researched them, looked at 560s online for a while, called about a couple of them. He called me once he found this car, in Florida. We discussed it, he called the owner (the second long time Florida owner), struck a deal and had the car shipped to Minneapolis. It was promptly taken to be inspected by a local shop, 'The Toy Box' that specializes in these sorts of SLs. They did a number of things to the car as described above. The guys there also commented that it was one of the nicest R107 SLs they'd seen in a long time. The owner only drove a few hundred miles this Spring and into the early Summer. I got an email from his brother at the very end of May letting me know that his brother had indeed succumbed to the lung cancer he had been fighting for more than a year. He thanked me for helping his brother with the car, it was a fun project for him, finding it, buying it, having it worked on, driving it on those first few nice Spring days here in Minnesota. It was something to take his mind off of his health situation. It was a car he had wanted all his life, and he was able to enjoy during his last days. His brother asked me to assist with the sale, he is a local doctor without the time or know how to go about selling it himself. It is an extremely nice example, and believe me, I'd buy it myself if I hadn't recently purchased a vintage Porsche 911... my lovely wife has a strict 'one at a time' rule. The car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end the auction at any time. The right offer will end the auction early. Call me to discuss the car, DAVE at (651) 216-1265. Well maintained vehicle, turn the key and drive anywhere. Soft top is in great condition, although back window is yellowed. Looks great with the hard top mounted. Hand painted pin stripes added when new. Pin striper `signed` his work. Lenses are clean and clear, all the way around. Bumpers are very shiny, no corrosion of any kind! No dents or dings. No curb rash on the wheels, they look beautiful. Clear coat on wheels is un-chipped, no peeling. Front valance looks great. Door panels are original and in great condition. Door jambs and sills are extremely nice and clean. I removed the steering wheel cover since this photos was taken, wheel is in excellent condition. Miles are original. NO cracks in any of the wood. Leather driver`s seat is nicer than most I`ve seen. Bolsters are in excellent condition. Minimal wear visible. Minimal creasing in leather, virtually no wear. Aftermarket floor mats are on top of original dealer protective plastic sheeting that I believe has never been removed. Carpet still under plastic! Passenger`s seat is in excellent condition as well. Headliner of hard top is excellent. Dash is perfect, no cracking, no warping of any kind. The armrest shows some wear, minimal cracking. Speakers were added to the rear parcel shelf. Trunk is super clean. Original spare, jack and tools are in there. Top fabric is excellent, windows are yellowed. Engine bay is tidy and clean. Hair width scratch on passenger`s door, very light. Small paint chip. Several swirl marks on trunk lid. Paint chip near driver`s side door handle. Several light scratches from careless hard top removal. Next couple of photos show a few chips from hard top removal. Underside of vehicle is very clean, no rust! Driver`s door jamb VIN plate. A pillar VIN plate. All books and manuals are included with the car. Original dealer stock tag also with car. Receipts for recent work performed on the car in 2012. Additional service records and receipts. Payment $500 Paypal deposit due within 24 hours of auction end. Balance due within 7 days of auction end. I will NOT accept Paypal for the payment balance, unless the buyer pays the Paypal fees. Shipping Car is sold FOB Minneapolis, MN. I can assist in shipping, as far as making the car available to a transporter of your choosing.
