For sale is a 1981 Mercedes Benz 380SL. The car and mileage are Carfax certified. It has been in my possession for roughly 10 years. It was purchased in great shape from California and I believe I am the third owner. Over the past 10 years it was driven occasionally the first few years and since has been mostly sitting. The majority of the issues with the car have come from the fact it has been sitting. After the first few years of ownership my mechanic advised that the majority of the seals under the engine had become hard and needed replacing. I had everything done. The fuel system has also been cleaned and the injectors replaced. Brakes are also new, tires have good tread but are aged. The fuel distributor head, and idle speed control unit were also fixed recently. As can be seen from the photos, the paint is original and no work has been done, however there are few small scratches on the driver side fender that would need attention. The exhaust hanger strap will need replacing, the passengers door will need some attention and putting back together, I've done this before and all the parts are there for it, it just needs putting together. As far as its current needs to be running well, I really am not sure of all its needs. It is being sold as is although there were never major issues, (engine/transmission) never had any notable issues. The majority of what is wrong with the car is resulting from sitting for so long. (Dried seals, which were fixed, potentially some electrical components that have died, etc.) The hardtop is in great shape with no problems, the soft top has also almost always been under the hardtop and not exposed but there is a small crack through the back plastic window of the soft top, no tears or holes in the fabric but a small crack in the plastic window. The car will also obviously need a battery... I simply don't have the time to enjoy the car anymore and haven't since I bought it 10 years ago, otherwise I would spend the money to restore it. I need the garage space more than anything. The car could use a very thorough cleaning! It really looks stunning if you have it really cleaned well. There's so much potential in this car, but first, some minor restoration, along with a very thorough cleaning and a tune up, you would have a super low mileage all original Mercedes convertible for one heck of a deal.
