Vehicle Detail
HELLO TO ALL. THIS IS A 1968 CHEVROLET CHEVELLE SS 396 CONVERTIBLE 4 SPEED TRIBUTE CAR THAT HAS UNDERWENT A RECENT BODY-ON RESTORATION AND IS READY FOR A NEW OWNER TO ENJOY. My husband and I purchased it in Ohio a couple of years ago, while down there for the classic car show in Springfield. We always wanted either a big block convertible Chevelle from 68-70 with a 4 speed, and since prices on them (especially the nicely customized ones) have been skyrocketing, it's been difficult...if not impossible finding one priced reasonably that was reliable enough to be used daily. Once we got it back to NY, we garaged it and worked on it a little at a time, turning it into what it is today, a beautiful and cool driver. The restoration work was done within the last 3-4 years by a father and son during their spare time. Virtually every outer body panel was replaced, including the trunk pan. Floors seemed to be original from what I was told and look great. Completely NEW interior was installed. NEWLY overhauled brake system. NEW suspension throughout, NEW convertible top, NEW wheels/tires, NEW weatherstripping, NEW carburetor, etc. etc. Overall they spent over $25k on this car to get it to this level which is a very nice high-end driver, NOT a 100 point correct concourse show car of course. Body is very nice and straight with very few waves in it. Doors open and close nicely. Gaps are all decent from what I could see and panel fit is pretty good overall for an old Chevy. OPTIONS: Power steering Power DISC front brakes 10 bolt rear end Bench seat interior 454ci Big Block V8 motor 4 speed manual transmission Dual exhaust 14" SS wheels with white letter radial tires Mechanically the car is TURN-KEY and fires right up without any issues and can be driven anywhere in my opinion. Under the hood lies a rebuilt 454ci big block that has had some mild performance work done to it like a mild performance camshaft, long tube headers with dual exhaust, performance pistons and the like, along with a 0.030 block overbore from what the previous owner told me. Now as for driving the car, i've taken it out mostly around the neighborhood here and there for a few functions, and sometimes we take it to the Island for a cruise. Brakes work well. Steers nice and swift without too much play in the wheel. Overall very sound and reliable car that can be used daily with very minor adjustments. I would feel comfortable driving this car long distances as it has never let me down or left me stranded. Interior has been nearly completely redone in stock fashion. Seats were reupholstered, door panels redone, carpet replaced, dash pad redone, convertible top redone, all professionally installed by local upholstery shop. Overall a very nice high-end driver quality interior. Underside is very nice and dry overall, being an original Ohio car. SOLID frame. EXCELLENT floorboardss from what I could see. Excellent trunk pan. No real eye sores. Nice and dry underneath. Very solid overall. THIS 1968 CHEVY CHEVELLE SS 396 4 SPEED CONVERTIBLE TRIBUTE CAR IS NOT PERFECT, SO PLEASE LOOK AT PICTURES, ASK QUESTIONS OR COME SEE IT IN PERSON. Paint is in VERY GOOD shape and cleans up NICELY for a high-end driver with normal imperfections here and there from everyday use. Panel fit is not perfect since the replacement panels that were used were aftermarket and not "Nos" but looks good overall, although if you want it perfect you might have to do some better alignining. Small golf ball sized dent by rear trunk pan towards the passenger side (not visible as it happened after pictures were taken). Shifter takes a little getting used to. A couple of the gauges not connected, as well as the wipers (not connected) and radio. Convertible top is power but disconnected and now works manually (motor and/or switch may need replacing). Left outer door handle sticks every once in a while so you have to open the door from the inside. Exhaust sits fairly low to the ground so it scrapes often (could use bigger springs up front to lift up the front end a bit)There may be various other small issues with it, as with any other old car, and i'm not gonna sit here and list them all as it would be no point. So overall she is nowhere near perfect and will need some form of TLC depending on how nice you want it to be and what you plan to do with the car. If you just want a NICE HIGH-END MOSTLY RESTORED DRIVER needing some minor tlc and finishing touches, this is the car for you. If you want a show car, it will need some investment to bring it up to that level of course. I ENCOURAGE ANYONE BIDDING OR SERIOUSLY INTERESTED TO COME LOOK AT IT IN PERSON. I WILL BE GLAD TO SHOW IT TO YOU TOP TO BOTTOM SO YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU'RE GETTING INTO. AT THE VERY LEAST TAKE A LOOK AT ALL THE ADDITIONAL PICTURES ON THE LINK ABOVE.
