Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is my 1949 Packard 2 door. I've owned the car for about a year and a half. I've got a couple of other project cars and I'd rather sell the Packard than have it sit around till I can get to it. Overall it's in pretty good shape for the year and looks to be an unmolested car. It would be a great start to a restoration or you could just drive it as it is. The paint is in pretty tough shape and is cracking, for lack of a better term. The car starts good and goes down the road just fine. It also stops good as well although I've never slammed on the brakes nor have I been in a situation where I had to. I'll be as honest as I can here and please feel free to contact me with any questions. As far as new items on the car, I put a set of tires on earlier this year. I have the wide whitewall set that is in pretty good shape and will go along with the car. They are bias ply tires and since I don't know how old they are so I felt much safer with new radials. The spare tire looks to be original and is in the trunk. I just installed a new water pump. The car has the original 6 volt electrical system. The battery was new last year when I bought the car. At some point in time an electric fuel pump was installed just outside the fuel tank. Seems to work just fine. I had the generator rebuilt last summer as well. The floorboards are in good shape with no rust holes that I could find. There is a small rust hole in the trunk and is shown in one of the photos. The chrome is in good shape as well with only a couple of spots. The glass is all there and is not cracked or broken. The front windows roll up and down but the rear ones seem to be off track. I just left them closed. The odometer reads 26072, but I'd have to think that that would be once over. The engines runs great with no ticks or noises of any kind. The standard transmission works just fine and the clutch is good as well. The overdrive, however, does not work. I'd think that with a bit of repair it would work. The radio does not work but all the lights on the car operate as do the windshield wipers. The wipers are the original vacuum operated type. The body of the car is in good shape for the year. There is a spot on the rear right fender where it may have been damaged at one time. There's some bondo coming through and I've tried to show that in one of the photos. I wish I could be more accurate about the history of the car but I've only owned it for a short time. The car did come from Minnesota and was trailered here by a friend of mine. His wife didn't like it so he sold it. I also have a few new parts that will be included. I have 4 new wheel cylinders that were purchased about a year ago. I'd planned on redoing the brakes but never got to it. I also have a 6 volt electronic ignition system along with a new coil. This setup would get rid of the old points and condenser. Again, I never got to that. I'd classify the car as a driver but with an option to restore it or build a hot rod or rat rod out of it. Me, I just drove it and enjoyed it. But again, please contact me with any questions and I'll answer to the best of my ability. The winning bidder will be responsible for shipping of the car as I have no trailer to haul it. If you're somewhat local, we can perhaps work something out on the delivery. There is no warranty and the car is sold as is. I also will be listing the car locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early if it is sold. Thanks for looking and bidding on a nice old Packard. On Oct-24-12 at 19:30:26 PDT, seller added the following information:PS. I just added a few photos of the underside of the Packard. I hope that you can make sense of them. I wanted to show that there are no rust holes in the floor and also show the bottom of the engine compartment. I'd also prefer USA bidders only because of the shipping. Thanks. On Oct-26-12 at 23:23:47 PDT, seller added the following information:Hi again, I'm trying to put back the $6600 Buy it now price which has mysteriously disapeared. m I'm not sure what happened, but it was there when I first listed the car. Thanks.
