Vehicle Detail
I'm selling my SII, which with a little bit of work will be a nice daily driver, or the basis of an awesome project. I bought this very clean, always garaged car 20 months ago to disassemble and build my idea of the ultimate OEM+ 8V. The car is in excellent shape overall, except where the previous owner was hit in the front while stopped in a parking lot. There is no damage to the unibody. All of the damage was to bolt-on parts, and the car comes with everything needed to do the repair except a new driver's side fender. A good fender is easy to find in the Scirocco Classifieds on vwvortex or through VW dismantlers around the country for less than $100. If you do bodywork you could attempt to repair the fender on the car. This car is solid, rust free and well maintained, runs well, and has never been disfigured by any kind of low budget repair, "mods" or hacking. Paint is original and an afternoon's polishing is all it needs. Almost perfect dash has only a couple of tiny cracks at the front defrosting slots and can't be seen when seated in the car. The car has a new 90 amp Bosch alternator, new water pump and housing, a proper under-hood a/c delete (the previous owner was a VW master tech), a 2.25" Techtonics stainless exhaust with cat delete, TT short shifter with all new shift bushings, front upper and lower stress bars, rear stress bar, Grant steering wheel, OE fog light switch, AGLA leather handbrake boot, armor door plates. Mint 16V taillights. 3.89 R&P 4K trans. No hackers have ever touched this 3 owner car. The PO had it for about 12 years, and knew the prior owner. The car has a 180k miles on it, a clean CT title and the original VW cassette stereo. I parted out an SII last fall (pictured, and the car itself is long gone) for the parts needed to repair the front end, so there's a perfect hood, all front lighting, under-headlight trim, bumper, and a passenger side fender. Also, there's a ton (you will need at least a van) of other parts- most of an extra interior (I was going to rebuild the seats with the foam and fabric from the parts car), an excellent hatch with glass, door glass and winders, windshield (with a tiny chip) and rubber, a side window and rubber, vent glass and rubber, and stuff I can't remember. For a bit more than the final auction price (negotiable if you can move another car a couple of miles for me when you pick this up) you can have a bunch of extra parts, which includes an extra 1.8 GTI CIS cylinder head/intake manifold/throttle body, crank, pistons/rods (which came from the 90k mile parts car - I was going to send them out for balancing / lightening and headwork for a 1.9L conversion), a very nice fuel tank with insulator straps (hard to find), starter, an uncut rear parcel shelf, more front parking lights, an extra rear bumper cover, seat belt set, radiator, fan and shroud, a pair of '86 cabriolet bumpers and brackets (to use as lightweight cores for a Euro-style bumper conversion; I was going to cut an inch out of the aluminum cores to make them even shorter and lighter and eliminate the original hydraulic bumper mounts. Search "JonnyPhenomenon bumper conversion" in the Scirocco section of vortex for info). It starts and runs great but is not registered so it needs to be picked up near Hartford (Simsbury CT). I've been asked to part the car but an SII as solid and original as this is worth the minor repair necessary to preserve it as an un-molested survivor. I had big plans for the car, so please, someone give this car a good home. This is a simple repair that can be done with minimal time and cost to put you in a great weekend toy ready for Spring. If the sale price reaches $1500, the following parts will be included (otherwise can be purchased for $250/negotiable if you can give me a hand moving another car to where the Scirocco is stored): 1.8L CIS Solid lifter cylinder head (complete with cam/sprocket, valve cover, with intake manifold, cold-start injector, upper belt cover and throttle body).1.8L GTI pistons, piston rods, and crankshaft.Radiator with fan and shroud.Full seat belt set.Door window tracks.Catalyst heat shields.Fuel tank with insulated mounting straps.Headliner support rods (3).Front headliner trim (hard tray above the visors).Heater valve and cable.Hood release cable and handle.Shift linkage spares: relay shaft, shift rod bearing assembly, and selector lever.Extra rear bumper cover.Aluminum bumper core support bars with body-attachment brackets.Space-saver spare tire.Starter.Un-modified original parcel shelf.Front motor mount and bracket.Oil filter and hose mount (for engine block).A bunch of miscellaneous interior trim.
