Vehicle Detail
This late model year 1925 Model T Ford has never been restored or otherwise molested; never been wrecked; has never been rusted or rotted; and it's histroy is known since it was bought new in the spring of 1925. It is in very good overall running condition however, the transmission and the starter motor should be rebuilt. I am the third owner; and the second to actually register the car and use it on the road. In late May 1925 Frank W. Walcup of Tomah, Wisconsin bought this car new from Layton Park Motor Conmpany, located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (the metal dealer tag is still attached inside the car above the windsheild). Frank never married, was a type setter at the local Tomah newspaper, and although he lived in the village area and did not require a car for daily use, this was his only car used for fishing trips and the like until he traded it in for a new Ford at Norris-Vernier Motor Sales, Inc., the local Ford dealership located in Tomah, in May 1953. Mr. Vernier liked old Frank, and for sentimental reasons kept the old Model T, firing it up for 4th of July parades and occassionally putting it on display in the dealership show room. In 1969 Tim Vernier, Mr. Vernier's teenage son, rebuilt the engine as part of a shop class project. In about 1999 the dealership closed; however, the Vernier Family held onto the old Model T for sentimental reasons and placed the car into good storage. I purchased the car from the Tim Vanier (the son) in October 2009. I was attracted to the car becouse of it's known history and original unrestored condition. I like antiques of this kind. In late October 2009 the car, not having been run in over ten years, was shipped to me here in Vermont. For more then thirty-five years I have collected early American cars; and was delighted to have purchased this unrestored completely original car. This car is exactly as Frank Walcup owned it, including the varous accessories that he added to the car (radiator cap, clock, locking steering column device, foot accelerator), as well as the home made electric windsheild wiper and dash mounted starter button that was probably added in the 1940's. When I purchased the vehicle, I did not necessarily intend to resell it; however, right now I live a very busy and full professional and civic life, and as a result want to trim things down to two or three antique vehicles. So, very relutantly I am putting this car up for sale. I have had three summers of fun with it. The car is interesting because it has sevral late 1925 model year features like the 1926 style "square" running board splash sheilds (some late 1925 model year cars have been documented with this type of splash apron) and the 1926 style choke control (the 1926 model year started in late July 1925). The serial number indicates that the car was manufactured on May 23, 1925 - a day when Ford made 7,526 Model T's. The car has never been rusted nor rotted. All of the sheet metal is very sound, although several fender dents are present from Frank Walcup's days of driving the car. Most of the black paint is original, as is the entire roof and covering. All of the interior is original, including the rear carpet (the front carpet has long ago disappeared). Both of the original carpet cowl front kick panels are still in nice condition. The head liner is original; and has been reattached to the roof f the car in several areas. Years ago Frank Walcup replaced the two interior door panels in a material simular to the original. Since I have owned the car, I have done the following: New gas tank; new Holley NH carb.; all new inner tubes; new spark plugs and wires; rebuilt the front end; installed new spring shackles; installed a new exhaust manifold and exhaust system; new radiator hoses, clamps, and fan belt; one new coil and all new coil points; rebuilt generator and new cut-out; new timer; installed new oiler kit inside the crank case for number one bearing and new pan gaskets; new reproduction battery box and a new 6 volt battery; and a bunch of other miscellaneous things. I have all the receipts for all parts that I have purchased for the car - most came from Lang's Old Car Parts (the best in my opinion). Above the left hand door there was a small amount of wood rot that was carefully repaired with epoxy without disturbing the original roof covering; the original roof covering has been recoated and is in good overall condition. The car runs very cool, the original radiator is still in very good condition, and the car has an accessory water pump that Frank Walcup installed many years ago. The car starts well, the motor is tight, and uses very little oil. The motor runs beautifully on the magnito, just as it should. The transmission should be rebuilt as the clutch dics are getting worn and the rear transmission bearing is very worn. I have probably driven the car about 1,500 to 1,800 miles over the past three summers; and if I were to keep the car, I would install new tires - the present ones are getting old. All of the original tools and tool pouch are under the rear seat; and I have the original owners manual and correct original parts book. This is truely a delightfully original "used" Model T that by all means shoould never be restored but rather just enjoyed and conserved. In fact, it would be a shame to restore or change the car in any way. It is a car not only as Ford built it, but a visable peice of Americana as well. I can be reached at my office (802) 296-0004; or at frank.j.barrett@myfairpoint . Glad to anwser any questions or email additional photos. On Oct-15-12 at 20:05:42 PDT, seller added the following information: I can email an image of the valid original Wisconsin title in Frank Walcup's name if one is interested. For some reason EBay's photo program did not want to accept my photo image such that I could not show it as part of this listing. On Oct-16-12 at 06:54:10 PDT, seller added the following information: Several more details about this car: 1. Both of the correct original engine splash pans are on the car and in nice condition; 2. The car has an aftermarket accessory cast aluminum carburator hot air pipe with brass air intake adjustment; 3. The aftermarket steering column lock, while in nice condition, needs a key cut to be lockable; 4. All of the lights work properly, as does the horn. All of the original wiring has been carefully checked over and any repairs and such carefully made; 5. The reserve price got incorrectly listed; and I am not sure how to adjust that now after the fact, So, let me just be up front and honest with you. The reserve price on this car is $7,000.
