Vehicle Detail
Offered by private party seller: 1999 Chevrolet 3500 SILVERADO LS crew cab. Factory automatic/ overdrive Dually Car Hauler with custom built heavy duty 19’ long x 96-1/2” wide Dovetail, diamond plate deck surface, ramp load bed designed and constructed by Hodges Haulers of Paducah, Kentucky. Factory big block 454 Vortec Electronic Fuel Injected gas engine (fully documented recent rebuild at 203,804 miles), no diesel fumes, photo documentation as seen. Single 25 gallon factory fuel tank, average 15 mpg. Registration and California smog certification just renewed this month. I purchased the truck 9/23/2008 with 196,000 miles on the clock. Total length 31’ 6”. Rear of cab to center of rear axle measures 10 feet. Hodges construction simply symbolizes quality and old school style in the car hauler world, and they have a nice website describing more in depth what it is that they do. There are no hydraulics involved in the clipped (beveled) corner bed design of this truck to possibly leave you stranded. Slide in/out and left/ right adjustable rear diamond plate Texas style optional heavy duty ramps (88” long x 16” wide) have a minimal load angle and can accommodate the smallest of micro cars on up as seen in the photos. Low center of gravity makes this a real nice driving truck. Following options: Air conditioning, very comfortable power seats, factory CD /cassette player with surround sound, power steering/ brakes (disc front, drum rear), remote mirrors, power door locks, tinted windows, tilt steering, automatic day/ night digital compass rear view mirror, front/ rear flip up center arm rests with storage and cruise control. Even the rear seats have adjustable backs. Auxiliary big rig style roof lighting package on cab and bed lower surround, with LED rear fast flash turn signals and LED brake lights. 2 tool boxes, (1 per side), with stainless steel locking latches and a regularly serviced PIERCE (top of the line) 12,500 lb. recessed commercial winch with hinged winch cover and 15’ remote control cable. A ’57 Cadillac Brougham loaded to the headliner with extra parts didn’t phase it, nor did the ’57 Chevy Napco Suburban loaded with spare transfer cases and spare axles… There are 4 heavy duty steel removable /adjustable locking wheel stops on the bed surface, set for 8 different locations to prevent forward or reverse movement. The four corners of the bed feature ratcheting safety chain binders (top welded / raised front, recessed rear) and the bed sides have the optional raised 1-3/4” boxed safety lip. 10 additional hardened Hodges pivoting D-ring tie down locations with heavy-duty underside backing plates and stainless hardware. Boxed hitch receiver and auxiliary magnetic brake light set-up for visibility with rear mounted plug in socket as seen behind the red Healey custom pulled from a barn. The truck has been properly maintained with regular tire rotations on nice 225/75R16’s, rear brake adjustments, new front rotors, pads, 4 KYB H/D premium gas shocks (nice ride quality enhancement), wheel bearings, new rear drums, wheel cylinders, shoes, springs, urethane sway bar bushings, front end alignment, high-rev starter motor, balanced drive shaft(s), new U-joints and carrier bushings, ball joints, rear axle backing plate seals, serviced rear differential, pitman arm bushings, tie rod ends, a-arm bushings, all cooling hoses, serpentine belt, battery, air filters, A/C compressor/ evaporator, etc. The power window switches and motors are all new as well as the locking solenoids. Things that wear out… Records kept. While the engine was out for rebuild, I painted the block and valve covers Chevrolet Orange versus factory black, as a tribute to the first 265 C.I. V8 in the Corvette. The original owner’s manual and a Hayne’s service manual are also included. If you are in the Los Angeles area, you are more than welcome to stop by and inspect the truck by appointment. It drives as nice as it presents, is VERY comfortable long distance and has been a real work-horse for me in the past four years of careful ownership. I have always enjoyed caring for what I drive and this truck “Buddy L” (Tonka Toys went head to head with Buddy L and I’ve always been a big fan of the Under Dog), is no exception as it has been a very important tool in my toolbox for personal use as a restorer. The interior is extremely nice with no rips or tears, not smoked in, and I like a clean engine compartment at all times, as seen in the photos. Original cab paint and cosmetics are very nice overall. The skid resistant bed surface and ramp finish does show use, as this is a working truck. The ability to thread needles in parking/ access situations alone, far outweighs trailer ownership, in my opinion. If you are tired of trailer logistics, this truck can spoil you quickly if you’re in the market for one. This is a well maintained truck, turn key and ready to continue working. I am offering the truck to the highest bidder and as is with everything I offer on ebay, regardless of price, is being sold with no returns.
