Vehicle Detail

1959 Studebaker Silver Hawk, California car, SURVIVOR Ever wish you could go back in time to southern California back in the late 1960's and pick a very nice car? This baby-blue Silver Hawk is the closest one can get in 2012. This hawk needs nothing to be a fun car to take to shows or cruises. Everything works. Needs nothing to be a driver. Why buy a fixer-upper for not much less then the reserve on this one, when you can have a nice, solid good-looking survivor California car that is ready to enjoy as-is. Truly this car is a time capsule. The odometer indicates 79,000 miles and very likely that is accurate. It has only had about 5,000 miles put on it since the late 1960's - yet all that time in California it was stored inside protecting it from being baked in the sun like many southwestern cars. It was a west-coast car since new. It has never been driven in salt since being brought here to the Midwest. The windows roll up and down perfectly, The doors open and close like new, and it runs and drives nicely. This car is a somewhat rare factory six cylinder hawk. The factory six with 3 spd overdrive is the perfect combination for good gas mileage with todays prices. It has had one repaint since new, it was done in 1968. The repaint was directly over the original Alaskan blue, with minimal or no body work, the engine compartment and door jambs are still original paint. That 1968 paint still shines and looks very good, although has a few nicks and scratches here and there. When the '68 repaint was done, the 'fin strips' never made it back on after the car was repainted. The floors, trunk, and frame are perfect and rot-free and have not been repaired ever. There is some bubbling in the far lower front of the left rear fender, due to some dirt getting packed behind the panel. That is the only real corrosion bubbling on the body, other then a couple very small pin-head sized spots here and there. The front fenders and rocker panels are excellent. There is no roof-rot anywhere, the car came from dry inland California. The engine has only about 3,800 miles on a professional rebuild, and comes with the receipt. It has excellent compression and carries 30 psi hot idle oil pressure. It runs excellent, smooth running, and no smoke. The transmission is a New Old Stock complete unit installed from Newman-Altman. It has only a few hundred miles on it. Overdrive works excellently: shifts in automatically, and kicks out automatically when floored. I believe the reason the car had so few miles put on it since the late 60's was because of wiring and electrical issues. It now has a NOS factory correct complete wiring harness installed. The electrical system now works excellently. All the lights and gauges work. The tires on the car are real wide-whites, and have excellent tread. They were installed on the car in 1972, and are another testament to how little the car got used since then. They are not weather checked since the car was stored inside and not subject to baking in the California sun. The interior shows some wear but is in remarkable condition for a southwestern car. There are no rips or tears in the seat covers. I believe the seats were recovered about the time it was repainted in the 60's. The headliner is still the original. The chrome shows some patina, but is generally shiny. All the glass is good, no cracks or chips. There are a couple wiper scratches in the windshield. Don't miss out on this survivor. One would be hard pressed to find another that has had so little mileage put on it in the last 45 years, and is still such a nice car. Please remember this car is not restored and isn't absolutely perfect. It's been maintained and fixed, but never restored. It is a nice old honest car that still looks nice and is enjoyable as-is. Located in central Michigan. Look up zip code of 49677 if you want to see how far it is from you. If you have any questions, please ask before bidding. I am parting with this car to make some storage space. Reserve is set reasonably, but I am not in a desperate need to part with it. Comes with clear open CA title (signed off but buyer, price, and date left 'open'). Also comes with old vintage California registrations and service receipts from the late 60's through the 90's, documenting mileage. Car is sold as-is, where-is. No warranties, conditions, or guarantees expressed or implied. Buyer responsible for all pickup / shipping arrangements. Please note I am NOT a dealer and it must be picked up here at my non-commercial residence, I cannot deliver, pick you up at an airport, take the car to a truck dock, or do similar requests. Full payment required within 7 days of auction close. Payment by cash or cashier's check. If paying by cashier's check, it must clear to my satisfaction before vehicle is released. NO Payment plans, trades of livestock or your ex-wife, or post-auction negotiation. It must be picked up within 35 days of receiving cleared payment, storage beyond that will incur storage fees.
