Vehicle Detail

You are bidding on a beautifully restored 1975 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. It has a 455 Pontiac V8 and Hurst-shifted 4 speed manual transmission. It is Buccaneer Red with a white deluxe interior, and all new Trans Am graphics including the famous "screaming chicken" hood decal. It needs a few small items (listed below) giving you a chance to make this car your own. Here are the details: Body: The body and paint were done by the previous owner in Phoenix, Arizona. I was told it was always an Arizona car, and I have not found any hint of rust on any of the common rust areas for these cars, such as bottoms of quarter panels, doors, and structural beam behind the rear bumper. The body was completely disassembled and repainted a beautiful base coat / clear coat Buccaneer Red. I would describe the paint as nearly show quality. The only flaw I have found is a very small area at the back edge of the hood that looks like a minor imperfection in the primer before the paint went on, but it is so small it won't photograph. The car was reassembled with all new weatherstripping. The interior features new carpet, seats, and door panels. The instrument panel was cracked by the Arizona sun, and was repaired with a cap, so it appears good. The Trans Am graphics are all brand new and look awesome. Engine: I installed a freshly rebuilt Pontiac 455 engine from a 1976 Trans Am. The engine was carefully broken in on startup, and has about 500 miles on it. It was rebuilt by a local expert who rebuilds 6-8 Pontiac engines per year, and is available to discuss his build process. The engine has 6X heads to increase the compression to approximately 9.0:1 (runs on unleaded premium gas). It has an Elgin E-980-P Pro Stock camshaft, a little more aggressive than a Pontiac Ram Air III cam. It has reproduction Ram Air exhaust manifolds, the famous Pontiac "factory headers", cast iron exhaust manifolds that flow as well as headers but without the associated hassles. It has a freshly rebuilt HEI distributor, with Accel Super Coil, plug wires, and spark plugs. It has an Edelbrock aluminum intake, a freshly rebuild Quadrajet carb, and is topped off with the famous Shaker hood scoop (in which the block off plate was replaced with a screen to make the scoop functional). The car sounds great, with a custom bent dual exhaust and Magnaflow mufflers, ending in the chrome exhaust splitters. The engine compartment is properly detailed with the proper factory decals (I also added a 455 Super Duty decal on the valve cover because I thought it looked cool). The transmission is a factory M-21 4 speed with Hurst shifter, and the final drive is a 3.08 Positraction for relaxed highway cruising. The radiator is an aluminum Be-Cool with DexCool long life coolant, keeping this big engine comfortable on the hottest days. The battery is a new Duralast with a shutoff for safe storage. Chassis: Tires are brand new BFGoodrich Radial T/A P225/70R15. The front springs are brand new Eibach to lower the nose about 1 inch for an aggressive stance. The shocks are brand new Monroe Sensa Trac. Most of the suspension links and bushings were replaced. The chassis is detailed and looks sharp. What It Needs: There are a few items the car needs, that will give you a chance to "make it your own": 1. Turn signal switch needs replacing. This broke during my ownership, so I know all the lights worked before the switch broke. 2. Interior - to make it show quality you would want to replace the dashboard. I would say the cap is OK for a driver, but not a show car. 3. Hood latch - there is a broken spring, very common on these cars, so you need to pull the latch over for the hood to shut. I have not replaced it, as a previous T/A of mine did the same thing and it just takes a second to pull the latch with a little wire as you are closing the hood. You may want to replace the latch if you don't want this extra step. 4. Transmission 2nd gear synchro - will sometimes pop out of 2nd gear when you are decelerating, telling me the synchro is starting to go. Previous owner had the trans rebuilt, and this is the only trans problem. 5. Driver's side door - should be adjusted to close better. Gaps are fine though, I believe the striker needs to be pulled in a little bit. 6. Driveline vibration - very minor right at 60 mph, then goes away as you go past that speed. Probably a minor driveshaft balance issue, I haven't bothered with it, but believe in full disclosure. Please feel free to contact me with your questions or if you want more pictures of a specific detail. I have strived for full disclosure and please note my Ebay Seller Rating, so bid with confidence.
