Vehicle Detail

1963 Studebaker GT Hawk, factory 4-speed car. This "black brute" is fun! It runs very strong and is a very fast car. This hawk was 'fixed-up' about 25 or 30 years ago, and while not perfect, it is a presentable car that is operable and a hoot to drive. Yes, it is a factory 4speed, 4bbl car. It runs good, easy to start, and no smoke. The engine is the correct P-code full-flow 289. The carb is a almost-new Eldebrock AFB-clone bolted to the original Studebaker 4bbl manifold. The clutch works well, and the 4speed trans is quiet and shifts nicely. When the car was fixed up about 25 years ago, the engine was gone through and some speed tricks were done to it. I am unsure exactly what was done since the fellow who did it is now deceased, but they sure knew what they were doing: THIS CAR IS FAST. I've driven several other 4speed hawks and larks, and this is the most peppy and easy to rev-up. Brakes work well and stop straight. The parking brake does not work. It has a newer dual exhaust system, very nicely bent and installed. The steering is not loose from wear, it steers and handles well. It has the optional Studebaker heavy-duty suspension. This car has rust and repaired rust. The front floors and trunk floor have been replaced in the past. However, it was done with metal that was welded in, No fibergass. The frame is excellent with no rot holes, no soft spots, and no crash damage. When the floor work was done, they did not re-create the boxed in portions behind the rocker panels (see photo). The doors open, close and fit nicely. I suspect the four fenders were replaced with NOS ones, as they have minimal rust and a light magnet sticks to the normal Studebaker rust-spots. The front fenders have very minimal rust, just a little at the far lower rear. There is some rust bubbling at the corner of the decklid, and other small misc spots in addition to the normal little paint chips and scratches here and there. There is some cracking at the front edge of drivers door. It is an original black exterior / red interior car. Overall it's a very presentable car for a older fix-up, but was not restored and is not perfect and is a little rough around the edges. Your neighbors won't complain if you park it in your driveway. Your neighbors will beg you for a ride after seeing you burn your tires a few times. This hawk has wickedly fast acceleration and tire chirping ability. All the gauges work except for the clock and gas gauge. At the time the car was fixed up, they put some other bucket seats in it. They fit well and are comfortable. I never had the originals. The headliner is original and is in nice shape with no tears. The carpet is there but worn. All the glass is intact with no cracks. There is a small chip at the far upper passengers corner of the windshield. The drivers door window regulator needs to be rebuilt. The alloy/aluminum rims are high-quality USA made ones, no curb damage, no corrosion damage. The tires are excellent with close to new tread. Don't miss out on this factory 4-speed car. Please remember this car is not restored and isn't perfect. It's been maintained and fixed up in the past, but never restored. It is a fun old car that is enjoyable as-is, imperfections and all. Located in central Michigan. Look up zip code of 49677 if you want to see how far it is from you. If you have any questions, please ask before bidding. I am parting with this car to make some storage space. Reserve is set reasonably, but I am not in a desperate need to part with it.
