Vehicle Detail
With regret I am selling my 1972 Porsche 914 due to a family member's financial hardship. Just to clear the air, I am not interested in low-ball offers. As you will see from the pictures and videos, this car is in excellent condition and I am not desperate to sell it. I simply want to help a family member and this is the quickest and easiest way. Having said that, I am selling it at NO RESERVE! I bought this car in June 2010 from a small dealership in North Carolina who had acquired it from a gentleman who had invested a lot of money in it. One of the main reasons I picked this particular one, is that it had had an extensive (over $10k invested) "restoration" in October 2000. I say restoration in quotes because it was redone, but certainly not to concourse standards. Everything worked, and I could just get in and drive. And that's what I did. I flew to NC and they met me at the airport. I signed the paperwork and drove straight back to Michigan without incident. Since that time, we have taken the 914 on numerous great trips, ranging from a couple of hours away to thousands of miles across the country. We've driven it to Southern California and back. On another occasion we drove it to Sedona, AZ and Vegas. I've never hesitated to get in and drive anywhere, and it's never left us stranded. Not even once. After I bought it, I had some minor work done to it - valves adjusted, tune-up, front end lowered slightly (I think it looks much better that way and it still rides and handles excellent - did not alter the suspension). About a year ago I had a new starter installed as well as all the vacuum hoses. About a week ago I invested about $500 having the valves adjusted, tune-up and maintenance. Other than that, all we've done is drive it! It is ready to go and I wouldn't hesitate to hop in right now and drive it anywhere in the country. Keep in mind, this is not a Lexus and doesn't ride like one. It is also not a Honda and doesn't shift like one. It has the 5 speed tail-shift transmission, which takes some getting used to if you haven't driven one before. But it holds every gear, shifts great, runs strong and is a blast to cruise in with the top removed. It will cruise on the highway at 75 mph all day long. I have no documentation to back up the status of the odometer. I would guess it has 169k vs 69k since it is 40 years old, but have no way to know and have not bothered to research it. I bought it to drive, and I drive it as much as I can. It's an amazing car that averages over 30 MPG! I'm still driving it as much as possible (weather permitting), so it will have more miles before the auction end. Once I have received your deposit, I will park it until you pick it up. For more information on the car, including hearing it run, blemishes, oil leaks, rust, electrical etc. please watch the attached videos as they are pretty comprehensive. I figured it would be easier and more informative than trying to type everything out. Of course, if you have any questions or would like pictures or info of anything, please let me know. Also included are the original Maintenance Record and Owners Manual. It comes with a couple of spare keys as well as a key blank. I also have pages of receipts of work that was done on it totaling over $10k. If you have any questions or would like more info, please do not hesitate to contact me. It is definitely available for you to come see and drive, and I encourage it. You will not be disappointed! *** PLEASE NOTE *** If you are the winning bidder at the end of the auction, you OWN the car. You are not coming to see it and check it out, you are coming to pick up YOUR 914. If you'd like to check it out, which I recommend, you will need to do so before the auction is over. I will be happy to meet you with the car at the airport in South Bend, IN (SBN). I am also willing to work with the transportation company of your choice, provided I do not need to deliver the car outside of my town. I require a $500 deposit at auction end, and the vehicle must be picked up within a week.On Oct-10-12 at 06:33:46 PDT, seller added the following information: Thank you for the overwhelming response to this listing! I appreciate all of the great emails and positive comments. I have had numerous requests to see the car in motion, so I've attached the following video. I apologize in advance for the poor quality! I've been driving it this week since the weather has been clear, so there are some bugs on the windshield. I typically drive with the top off, but it's been unseasonably cold so there are more squeaks and noises than is typical. Just to give you an idea, the temp this morning when I took the video was around 40 degrees... Please let me know if you have any other questions, Scott
