Vehicle Detail

Up for sale today is a beautiful original 1964 Fairlane 500 four door sedan. It has it original # matching 260v8 2bbl with 3speed manual transmission. I purchased this car from Kevco motors, in Sioux Falls South Dakota in May of 2007, with 51,000 original miles on it. The car was originally purchased at Ben Hur Ford in Sioux Falls, SD, and still retains its dealer badge. It spent most its life in South Dakota, keeping it rust free. It was briefly titled in Georgia for a short time before Kevco Motors purchased/sold it to me. I assume this was an estate sale, but I am not 100% sure. The car has been well maintained all of its life and when I purchased it it had oil change records on the door going back to 1964 denoting changes every 2000 miles. I have kept this maintenance up every 2000 miles. Car now has 71,086 ACTUAL miles. Title is clear. Things I did when I purchased the car: Changed Fan beltinstalled NOS radiator hosesinstalled NOS 1968 era Autolite Radio Resistance spark plug wires (these were purchased from Ray Skillman Ford in 2007)installed new Bosch Premium spark plugs (have been changed once since) Installed brand new Master CylinderNew shoes on the original wheel cylinders, which were checked and checked good. Original shoes in the rear, re-adjusted. Mechanic said they retained their original ford part numbers and appeared to be in excellent shape with little wear. Installed true dual exhaust with crossover pipe (to equalize pulses and have better flow) and dual turbo mufflers with turndowns exiting beneath rear bumper. Installation was clean and professional, done by a small town shop where I live that takes pride in what they do. Invested over $1000.00 in polygraphite suspension bushings and parts from PST.New Kuhmo skinny white wall touring tires in 2010New gas shocks all the way around Rebuilt the original numbers matching Autolite 2100 carburetor in 2011 with new gaskets, power valve, accelerator pump, soaked in Chem-Dip, butterfly and jets were cleaned and polished.Removed intake manifold and cleaned ports/sandblasted and re-painted. New Felpro gaskets were used, oil gallery looked like you bought the car YESTERDAY! Good oil has been used all its life. Installed new HiPo stye air cleaner with open-element filter for performance/gas milage. Original air cleaner and stove pipe go with the car. New reproduction fuel pump in 2010 from Dearborn Classics, original pump comes with car ready for rebuild. New Voltage Regulator and Duralast Gold battery less than one month ago. Generator re-built with new bearings and cleaned brushes/rotor- brushes should be good for a long while. Charging system Works perfect. Hidden Custom built amplifier in glove box professionally installed with NO hacks or splices into stock wiringHidden MB Quart 200 watt 6x9's hidden in custom made adapter plates beneath package tray. Custom made Package tray designed with cutouts to allow sound through but hide speakers. California Customs car cover comes with the car.Recently purchased but not installed : 1963 casting C3OE 289 small CC heads, professionally rebuilt with multi-angle valve job, glyptol gallery, screw in rocker studs for a higher lift cam, and painted stock semigloss black. Ready for port/Polish. BRAND NEW reproduction CORRECT 1964 Fairlane Only HiPo Cast Iron headers from Dearborn Classics. Fresh and rust free, ready to bolt on. This car runs and drives beautifully. The Three-on-The-Tree transmission shifts great and the synchros are good. You can downshift to 2nd at 35mph with ease, and into 1st at 25mph without grind. Clutch feels good, but should be checked with the mileage. Has been adjusted recently and feels a tad jittery. She cruises down the highway easily at 65mph and recently has been getting me about 22mpg! That is testimate to what regular maintenance and tune-ups will do to a 40+ year old car. The Fuel gague functions as it should. The headlights (three of which are original, stamped FoMoCo) are strong and the brights will light up a field. Interior/trunk/seals: All of the rubber and windlace on the car is in EXCELLENT shape and is NOT fossilized. The interior is in great shape, but the front seat shows a little wear, mainly the tear in the passenger side. The cloth inserts can be replaced and retain the excellent original vinyl. The car has floor mats that have been in it since it was new, and the original loop-weave carpet is perfect. The dash paint is in great shape, and the door panels are excellent. The original seat belts are clean and work perfectly. Horn ring does not have one single pit in the chrome. The trunk floor is solid and rust free (what you see in the photos is light surface rust where paint coverage at the factory was not sufficient. Original floor mat with C40E date code. The car's spare tire was, amazingly, never mounted on the car! It retains its original Bias Ply Goodyear tire with perfect tread. The red line still runs through the tread, and the back side of the wheel is still painted with ford's red primer. The jack kit is original and in great shape. The engine compartment is clean and rust-free. All wiring is original and in perfect shape. Exterior: Since this was a western car, the body panels are all solid. NO RUST EVER in the quarters. No rust ever in the galvanized rockers. No accident damage ever on the entire car. While it does have a few minor dents and dings here and there, this car's body work for restoration would be a body mans dream come true. The paint is the original Dynasty Green Metallic polycyrlic Enamel that she wore when she came off the assembly line. Unfortunately, the paint is showing its age and is worn through in places, in addition to having numerous small scratches here and there. It can be polished and look beautiful, but should be painted at some point to preserve the metal. Since it has NEVER BEEN REPAINTED, stripping or soda blasting would be a breeze! The ONLY rust on the whole car are in the following locations: Lower part of front fenders where they meet the rockers. This was caused originally by the "gutters" in them becoming clogged and retaining water. The rust spots are about 3 inches in diameter maximum, and are in easily fixed locations. It is not through the body yet and appears mostly surface rust. The battery tray is also rusty, which is typical. CHROME! I Promise you will not find another one with chrome as nice as this, unless it has been re-chromed! The chrome on this car is in astonishing condition. Ford pot metal was known for pitting severely. The C pillar chrome pieces alone are worth a small fortune, and there is not ONE SINGLE PIT in the original chrome plating! The front bumper is as perfect as a 40+ year old chunk of chrome can be- it has minor swirls, but no pits or large scratches. The rear bumper has a few pits but no rust. The stainless trim on the entire car is 95% perfect. The dog-dish hubcaps are almost NEVER found retaining their original paint and as dent free as these. Headlamp trim and grille are PERFECT AND STRAIGHT! All Stainless is in tact and in beautiful shape with no dents. Mechanical: Good: Starts every time with ease, plenty of umph in the starter. Runs, Drives, Shifts beautiful. Does not leak any antifreeze. Recent flush/refill. Has been flushed periodically since it was new, and the original radiator is clean and free of sediment, rust, or blockages. The car idles great and the temp gauge stays rock solid in the middle. No hesitation under acceleration at any speeds, the little 260v8 has plenty of get up and go. No gas leaks or abnormal oil leaks (see below.) Suspension is tight and the car corners beautifully and competently. Brakes feel great and there are no leaks. Bad: the rear main seal started leaking when I briefly put synthetic oil with detergents in it and it softened the seals. It does not leak bad, but enough one would want to service it in the future. The valve covers still retain their original paint...and their original cork gaskets, which weep oil minorly. The rear axle could use new seals at some point. The choke heat tube is broken where it mounts inside the passenger side exhaust manifold, rendering the choke problematic during cold months. This is easily fixed with a new tube. To summarize, this car is a beautifully preserved example with low mileage and is either a perfect daily driver or EASY restoration candidate. Many people at car shows appreciate its originality and have used it as a "reference" car for their own restorations. My original plans were a mild build to the 260 with 289 heads/hipo headers and a decent street cam, and keep the rest original down to the dog dishes and whitewalls. I don't want to sell this car and will miss it when its gone, but sadly it has to go to make room in my stable for other projects. Please EMAIL me with ANY questions before sending an offer.
