Vehicle Detail
1962 Buick Invicta Wagon. This is a true California barn find and one great wagon from the 60’s. There is no mistaking the classic Buick lines of the early 60’s or the muscle from the Nail Head motor. This wagon has a 401 Buick Nail Head referred to as the 445 Wildcat because it produced 445 FT/Lbs. torque. This particular wagon was equipped with automatic transmission and air conditioning from the factory. This particular car was found in the desert north of Los Angeles waiting for the right person to come along and make a fantastic project out of it. The body is fairly straight with minor body damage on the right rear door and quarter panel (as seen in the pictures). The rest of the body is fairly straight with only minor dings and the paint is very faded. All the glass is present and no signs of chips or cracks in any windows including the windshield. The body is surprisingly rust free, we have yet to see any rust on the vehicle in body panels or the floor board. This is a true California Car, we have old registrations dating back to 1968 in the Los Angeles area. This car has all the potential in the world but as with any project vehicle we should note that there are problems that we know about and I am sure a few we don’t. When we got the vehicle it has been sitting for years. We pulled the spark plugs and oiled the cylinders before we tried to start the vehicle. We added water to the radiator which came out the passengers side freeze plug (block appears OK) so we knew we could only run it a few seconds. We put a small amount of fuel in the carb and fired the vehicle. Upon cranking we could hear what sounded like low compression on at least one cylinder. The car started and ran but was not hitting on all cylinders but there was no knocking or rattling that we could hear. We pulled the plugs again and performed a compression check and found cylinders 3 & 5 had no compression. In the paperwork we got with the car there is a receipt for a rebuilt motor in 1997 totaling over $2700. We know that the vehicle was parked in 1999 so I am sure it doesn’t have very many miles on the rebuild but I have no idea why there is no compression. The receipt shows the vehicle had 42234 miles when it was installed and the vehicle currently shows 42234 miles so we also figure the odometer does not work. The transmission fluid is bright red like it was changed recently but we have not touched it. Since we only had it running for a few seconds we never tested the transmission. The brakes do not work, the rubber lines on the front are broken and there is no fluid. This car does appear to have the aluminum vented front brake drums that Buick ran. The interior looks to be complete and in overall fair condition. The front seat has come apart at the seams and the dash has been covered with carpet. The headliner, back seat, and door panels are in good usable condition considering the age of the vehicle (please look at the pictures and judge for your self). The back of the wagon is straight and clean but there is no carpet in the back. This was a 6 passenger wagon so the spare tire is stored in the passengers side quarter panel and there is storage under the floor in the rear. The electric window does operate up and down but does not fully contact the release to open the rear door. We were able to open it manually with the aid of a long screw driver to depress the release. The rear bumper is pushed in slightly but does not interfere with the operation of the rear tail gate. We have a California title in hand in our name and the car is currently non-oped. Because the title was issued under non-op there were no plates assigned to the vehicle. When the car is registered the plates will be issued by DMV. We also had one key made that operates the ignition, drivers door and rear window. Like any ad on Ebay I have tried very hard to give all the information I have about this vehicle.
