Vehicle Detail

* 1980 Fiat Spider * General – I bought this car from the original owner 22 years ago, in 1990, and have put about 40,000 miles on it since then. In 1996, it was painted the present color (it used to be brown), modified somewhat for more power and responsiveness. and generally restored with some nice touches. Minimal if any rust – very solid, no rust thru on chassis or anything like that. I bought the car in the Chicago area, and because of my work travel and relocation it’s been from Baja California to Quebec, and just about everywhere in between. It has NEVER let me down for any reason! (very unusual – remember this is a Fiat) * Odometer reads 77366 – believe this is the original mileage * Runs excellent, had an 1800 Intake Manifold, aWeber ADF 34 Carburetor, and a free flow exhaust system installed in ’96. This has greatly improved the typically sluggish performance of the original 2000 setup. Has a few mechanical issues as explained below * Interior in pretty good shape as shown - door panels are a little ratty where the rug inserts are, these are easily replaceable, just never bothered. Everything else is in good shape, with some typical age wear (cracking on the center console plastic, etc.) * Mechanical issues - There is a puff of smoke when the car is started after sitting a while. Believe this is due to worn rubber valve stem seals allowing a bit of oil to seep down into the cylinders when sitting. Meant to get this addressed with a valve job at some point but never got around to it, it doesn’t affect running or anything, nor does it burn excessive oil. If not started for a few weeks the carb will go empty, I just pour a shot of gas down the carb and it’s fine. * New Battery a few months ago * Drives and handles straight and true, all front suspension components were replaced in ’97 or so and the alignment bought into factory specs. I can’t find any looseness anywhere or anything obvious, but there is about 1” of play at the steering wheel that has developed over the last year or so. Could be a very minor issue like a tie rod end, or possibly some wear in the steering box. I would consider this a potential safety issue, and recommend it be resolved before the car is driven any significant distance. The brakes, transmission, clutch, and electricals are all fine. Recently passed VA state inspection. The tires are a few years old and look new. The radio/CD player is fairly new and has good speakers and an aux input. *Body Issues - Besides the paint being well over 15 years old now, there is a small rust spot on the driver’s side door as shown. This showed up shortly after it was painted, and has never gotten any worse. The front of the hood got slightly crinkled last year when a deer jumped on it, also shown in the pictures. This should be an easy fix. Finally, the left front fender by the wheel well was dented (after I took most of the pictures) on the garage door frame…really stupid thing to do, and a bit more bodywork is needed to straighten it properly. So, this car is a little bit of a project, but with a little bodywork and paint she’s a real beauty and an excellent cruising car for the mountains, fall colors, whatever. With a little attention she’ll be as good to you as she has been to me! As this car is 34 years old, obviously no warranty is offered, however, please check my feedback. Be assured that the description I've given is as accurate as possible, and inspection prior to bid is welcome.
