Vehicle Detail
You are biddng on a 68 coupe Mustang 302 with lots of potential! It is an automatic that my mechanic father and I dissasembled decades ago to rebuild. All of the parts are there and pictured with the exception of the engine (I gave it to my brother-in-law as a wedding gift a couple of years back). It has been a California car it's entire life and has been garaged throughout the time that I've owned it (since 1993) and as a result, there are no major rust issues that are typical with cars from the midwest or east coast. That said, during the course of dissassembling it we discovered some rust on the floor pans. I've ground out, coated and repainted the floor pans, but the car will probably require a new driver's side floor pan (see pic of rear section of driver's side floor pan - the metal is pretty thin). The cowl panel is nice and the dash is good (see pics). The hood is in great condition with no rust in the frame work, but has a couple of dings. The passenger fender is original and in great condition. The driver's fender and front valence are both brand new sheet metal. The front bumper is also brand new (will include the original bent front bumper in the sale). The rear taillamp panel, trunk lid and trunk are all in very good condition. The quarter panels are also solid. The roof panel is shows no damage there except for maybe a scratch or two. The passenger door, mechanisms, alignment, glass, and skin are in perfect condition. The driver's door was taken off a salvaged car and needs work. The headlamp buckets are decent and the headlights themselves are in working condition - same with the tail-lights. The rear glass is good, front windshield is cracked and will need to be replaced, door glass is good and the vent window frames & chrome are pretty nice as well though there are a couple of pieces of trim missing from the front windshield. There is an extra door glass in the trunk. The seats are parchment and while the front two are torn up the rear is in good shape. The headliner is in great shape as you can see from the pics. It has a racing steering wheel, traction bars, glass pack mufflers (very loud!), air-shocks, and long tube exhaust headers (see trunk pics). It also comes with centerline rims (with rim locks) with a decent set of tires although the rears (larger) have scrape marks from the airshocks being set too low during driving. Included in the sale are the Edelbrock Performer carburator, Performer aluminum intake manifold and the various mustang specific parts necessary to install them (pictured). In addition to the Edelbrock parts, I will throw in a slightly dirty and well used Haynes Manual. The passenger side of the car is imaculate with a coule of very minor dings and scratches. The driver's side will be more of a concern. The previous owner had been T-boned on the drivers side where the door hinges are. To make sure we weren't getting a lemon, we had a professional body shop examine the frame - they told us that it was straight. The previous owner told me that he had done some welding work trying to repair the damage himself, (see pics showing sheet metal just below the steering wheel) but never finished the job and his welding work was a bit of a hack job (see pics). That said, if you've got the skills, and the tools, it's a relatively straight forward job to clean this up. During the course of his work he also replaced the driver's side door and frame rail with salvage from a junkyard. Later, I replaced the front left fender. During the summer of 1994, when the car was still running, we had the brake system replaced, the wiring replaced (so that the head lights/tail lights/stop lights/turn indicators were functional), the front left tie rod replaced, and replaced the front shocks (KYB GR2s). The car passed California smog in 1994 (with a couple of modifications to make the long tube exhaust headers street legal). All told, the transmission shifted smoothly and could climb the grapevine with no issues (no over heating, didn't have to shift out of DRIVE). Local parties are welcome to stop by and view the car providing 24 hours notice is given. If you are interested in additional pics, please let me know. I reserve the right to end the listing early.
