Vehicle Detail

Original Owner! Purchased at Oakland Honda in 1971. A beautiful unrestored example of a Honda SL70. Bike is all original down to the tires! Bike has a reserve that is set at an obtainable point for a Honda SL70 in this remarkable condition. You will have to wait awhile to find an original owner SL70 like this one! The 70cc engine starts easily, and is quiet. Clutch action works fine, no slipping and the 4-speed transmission shifts easily. Front and rear brakes work perfect. Tires, although original and 41 years old show no weather cracking at all and have good tread left. Carb. has recently been gone through, Keyster carb. kit installed, carb bowl and roof of bowl chamber were soda blasted to remove scaling from fuel sitting in the carb while bike was stored inside. The carb boot, from the airbox to the carb rotted over time, and needs a new one installed. Reproduction boots are available from RE-MX online for $26.99. Paint and stickers are 100% original. Paint shines very nicely, even under the fenders the paint is still quite nice. There is a dent in the tank at the right front and a chip in the paint (see photo below), and some small chips on the left front side of the tank (again, photos). Tank is spotless inside, not a speck of surface rust. Side covers are perfect and all tabs are in place. Sticker on the left side cover started to lift, and has been glued back into place. Seat has not a single tear, and is 100% original. Fenders are near perfect, though there is one very small ding on the top front of the front fender, and a variety of small chips and scrapes, mostly on the front fender. I'm being very picky. Chrome on most of the bike is very good, with minor pitting. Some pitting is worse, on the headlight ears, nuts for front reflectors, rear license plate bracket, steering stem acorn nut and fork upper bolts, and throttle cable mount to grip housing. Light pitting on fork tubes mostly near the lower triple tree. Lower triple tree paint is thin and it shows. Controls at lever perches all work, need shining. Brake lever ball end broken off and gone, clutch lever ball end is bent. Grips are original, both are quite nice with small marks at very ends. Chrome on bars is nice. White caps for mirror plugs still in place. Paint on headlight bucket near flawless, ring is perfect, headlight works hi/lo beam. Bike will have a brand new battery installed by auction end. Front and rear hubs look great. Rear spokes could use some cleaning, but gold anodizing on spoke nuts front and back is still visible. Fork leg clear coating has started to craze, but no big scrapes on lowers. Fork springs have surface rust pits, as well as mount nuts. Pipe is undented and in great shape, with just some scuffs near the tip. Spark arrestor still in place. Here's a quick video of the bike running and riding! The bike has a clean, clear title, and it is registered non-op in California so there will be no back fees. Here are the rules: The bike must be picked up in Livermore, Cal. If you want to ship the bike, there are a number of companies that will ship the bike for you from here to your door, but it will NOT be CHEAP. At least $700-$800 Coast to Coast. So do your shipping homework first before you bid. I can help with transport within California but you MUST ASK FIRST. If you have 0-3 feedbacks, you must clear your bid with me first. Ask any questions you may have and Happy Bidding! On Sep-13-12 at 21:36:13 PDT, seller added the following information: OK, I said "Fork springs have surface rust pits" up there a little bit: That should have said Shock Springs. Sorry about that... On Sep-20-12 at 15:51:15 PDT, seller added the following information: New Battery installed today, verified now that the brake light works off both the foot and hand brake switches, and the parking light works w/the key in the "lights" position. Had a question about why no speedometer? The original owner says the bike never had one, and I see no evidence of one either being there, or being removed. Maybe they were optional, as there is a drive lug on the front brake plate for a speedo cable. The high beam indicator light seems to be right where the speedo bracket would mount, again making me think the bike never had a speedo. By the way the headlight high beam indicator light does work, though the lens is cracked (that's in a photo up a ways). Also noticed the fork boots have some age cracking. Just trying to make sure there are no surprises for the winning bidder.
