QUESTIONS? ...after reviewing all the images and reading the description, please call Jim Murphy if you have any questions: 706-429-7924 INVESTMENT POTENTIAL: It would be difficult to name a more beautiful and trend-setting classic than the 1965 Buick Riviera. The 1963-1965 Buick Rivieras appear on almost every automotive authority's "Top 10" list of ALL postwar US automotive designs. It is one of the few iconic designs chosen by The Milestone Car Society. Sir William Lyons (creator of Jaguar) said GM had done a "wonderful job". Raymond Loewy remarked that (aside from his Avanti), the Riviera was the "handsomest American production car". Highly original and pampered examples such as this example at right, are coveted and appreciating rapidly. Just as "location, location, location" determines Real Estate value, "condition, condition, condition" determines Classic Car value...and for this reason, we have included extensive photography on every aspect of the car. It is undoubtedly one of the best and most original 1965 Rivieras extant.NADA VALUATION: $37,600 with the following description... "This vehicle would be in excellent condition overall. It could be a completely restored or an extremely well maintained original vehicle showing very minimal wear. The exterior paint, trim, and mechanics are not in need of reconditioning. The interior would be in excellent condition. Note: This value does not represent a "100 Point" or "# 1" vehicle" DESIGNED TO BE A CADILLAC: Few people know that the Riviera began as the XP-715 concept car in the Cadillac design studios. It's lines were influenced by both Rolls-Royce and Ferrari. It was seriously considered for production under the "La Salle" designation, and was envisioned as a ultra-high quality Personal Luxury Car from Cadillac. However, Cadillac's famed Clark Avenue plant was at full capacity and they didn't need a new model to achieve their sales goals. However, the design was instantly recognized by GM as a winner...so Buick, Olds, and even Pontiac were allowed to "present their case" for "adopting" the car for production by their Division. Buick was so enthusiastic to win, they hired an outside agency to help prepare the official Buick "pitch" to the GM board. Their polished approach "won" them the car, and it proceeded to production with little change...except that the hidden headlamps proved too difficult to engineer in time for the car's 1963 introduction date...so stationary headlamps were incorporated. It was not until the 1965 model year that the originally intended hidden headlamps were released from engineering...and for this reason, the 1965 Riviera is often considered to be the "ultimate" expression of the classic 1963-1965 series. CELEBRITY FAMILY HISTORY: The father of a famed American Idol contestant owned this classic Riviera. To respect the family's privacy, details will be provided to the winning bidder privately.DOCUMENTED MILEAGE: The mileage is documented on the clear (no liens or other encumbrances) Georgia Title. NUMBERS MATCHING: Note that the VIN and the factory's engine block stamping are shown at right...and are matching.494475H954648 VIN DECODING: 4 (Buick) 94 (Riviera) 47 (2-doo)r 5 (model year 1965) H (Flint Michigan factory) 954468 (Production Sequence Number)COWL TAG DECODING: 07D (July Week #4 1964) 65 (1965 Model Year) -49447 (Riviera Hardtop Coupe) FB (Flint, Michigan factory) 282832 (Fisher Body Sequence Number) 601 (Blue Interior) CC (Arctic White for Upper/Lower Body) 2K (Air Conditioning) 4F (Remote Driver's Mirror) 5KW (Door Edge Guards and Custom Seatbelts) GENERAL: It is EXTREMELY hard to find a 1965 Riviera that has not been customized or changed significantly from when it was new. Note that NO ONE has installed an 8-track or other "modern" audio system in this car...that it is the ORIGINAL color inside and out...and that it has received extraordinary care.If you are tired of looking at highly modified, over-restored (i.e. nice, but $$$$), or worn-out classic Rivieras...this is the car for you. I have owned many classics over the year, but this is one of the two very BEST and most original classics I have ever had the pleasure to own. The AC blows cold, the power windows work, the radio works...and even the clock runs (though it needs periodic re-adjustment it just keeps ticking!). The car drives, steers, and shifts smoothly and quietly...thanks to the CORRECT original-specification exhaust system which employs two resonators and one very large muffler. PAYMENT DETAILS: Payment is due within 7 days of auction's end via Bank to Bank Wire Transfer. INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS are welcome, but MUST adhere to the Payment Details above and also make all arrangements for pick-up and importation of the vehicle into the Buyer's country.
