Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 2 Door Club Sedan with 64,956 Original Miles that was Owned by the same Family from 1957 until April of 2010. This 1957 Fairlane 500 is equipped with its Original 312 4 Barrel engine with Dual Exhaust along with the 3 Speed Manual Transmission with Optional Overdrive. This 1957 Fairlane 500 is also equipped with the Original Factory AM Radio, Dash Clock, Dual Mirrors, Rare V Bar Front Bumper/Grill Guard and the Optional Ford Accessory Wing style Exhaust Deflectors. This Fairlane 500 had 3 caretakers all from the same family from 1957 until April of 2010 and the previous owner was told that the car spent much of its life garaged! I have no doubt that this car spent many years garaged as it was sold new in the Pittsburgh PA area and cars from Pittsburgh just dont have nice solid bodies like this Fairlane if they were not garaged for a considerable length of time. It is my understanding that this 1957 Fairlane was purchased and driven by its Original Owner for a number of years before it was given to his son and then the Fairlane 500 went to a third family member before it went into storage. The Fairlane 500 was removed from storage back in the mid 80's and had all of the things done that are necessary to put her back in safe reliable driving condition. The car also received a fresh coat of its Original Code "H" Gun Metal Gray Metallic Paint in 1986 and the paint still looks nice with a great shine and a very attractive overall appearance. This 1957 Fairlane 500 is a very Cool and Extremely Original car that is optioned with the Factory "D" Code 312 4 Barrel Thunderbird Engine rated at 245 Horsepower with the 3 Speed Manual Transmission with Optional Overdrive and the 3.70 Geared Original 9" Rear! The car has what appears to be its complete Original Matching Numbers engine, transmission and rear and the engine compartment still retains nearly all of its factory original parts right down to the Original Voltage Regulator with the FoMoCo name and Part Number and its Original "See Clear" Windshield Washer Reservouir mounted on the Drivers side inner fender. Im talking original down to the Factory Yellow stenciled part numbers still visible on the driveshaft and the original 3.70 gear ratio Tag on the Original 9" Rearend and what appears to be an Original Quality Control Inspectors Grease Penciled "OK" marking on the Drivers Side Cylinder Head of the Original 312 engine! This 1957 Fairlane 500 is a great running car with the Original 312 4 Barrel engine with Dual Exhaust and the Original 3 Speed Manual Transmission with Overdrive. This Fairlane 500 2 Door is a nice solid Original car that will be a great weekend cruiser or a nice Cruise Night car for anyone who is looking for a cool Original 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Coupe! This 1957 Fairlane 500 runs great with its original 312 4 Barrel engine that starts easily and runs very smooth at idle and through the gears. The Transmission shifts great with no unusual noises and the Clutch works great. The Clutch, Pressure Plate and Throw-Out Bearing were replaced back in 2010 and there are less than 100 miles on the car since the clutch was replaced so it works beautifully with no chatter, no grinding and absolutely no unusual noises or problems. This 1957 Fairlane 500 drives up the road nicely and tracks nice and straight. The steering feels great with no wandering when your cruising up the road and the brake pedal is nice and firm and stops the car easily. The car still rides on Original Steel Wheels with its Original Wheel Covers that are in Nice Original condition. The car received a New Gas Tank as well as a New Gas Gauge Sending Unit so the Gas Gauge now reads accurately. The car also received a New Fuel Pump and the Carburetor was rebuilt and works great. The 312 4 Barrel engine runs strong and sounds great through the dual exhaust. There are no unusual noises from the engine and the engine compartment as a whole appears to be very original. The engine runs nice and cool with no overheating issues as the cooling system was flushed and a new thermostat was installed a couple of years ago. I had the car running at an idle for quite some time while I took some of these photos and the car ran cool without any issues..... Never overheated and ran great the whole time. Overall this drivetrain seems to be in very good condition with no problems that I am aware of and the Fairlane is a good driver. The Body on this 1957 Fairlane is in good original condition and is very solid for an original 55 year old Fairlane and if you know these cars then you know they were prone to serious rust issues but this is a good solid car overall. The car was repainted in its Original Code "H" Gun Metal Gray Metallic back in 1986 and it has a really nice shine and has a Nice Clean look from front to back. The Paint looks Nice and is a very cool color that works really well with the cool body lines and the Gold Trin Inserts on the sides of the car. Just a really pretty color with lots of metallic in the paint that really pops in Natural Sunlight! I have seen quite a few 1957 Fairlane's over the years but I dont remember seeing another 1957 Fairlane 500 in this cool Factory color. Im told that the Code "H" Gun Metal Gray Metallic Paint is a fairly unsual paint color for a 1957 Fairlane but with all of the paint color options for 1957, I guess you could say that for some of the other paint colors as well. The Paint is great for a weekend cruiser or perfect for your local Cruise Night Gatherings but its not perfect or show paint as it shows some nicks, chips and minor scratches but nothing terrible by any means. The Doors Open and Close nicely and the body lines look good from front to back. The Original Trim is 100% complete and in pretty nice original condition including the Trim around the Roofline and all around the Front and Rear Glass. The Cool Original Side Trim is in good original condition as well and has a nice appearance. The Original Bumpers have a very nice shine and are clean and straight. The Optional Original "V Bar" Front Bumper/Grill Guard is in very Nice Original condition and is said to be a very Rare Option on these cars. The Original and very Unique Gold Side trim is in good shape with a really nice look which is one of my favorite things on the 1957 Fairlane models, well the side trim and the cool Rear Fins really do it for me! The car is a very solid Original 57 Fairlane 500 overall with a nice Original Frame, Solid Trunk and the Floors appear to be nice and solid with the exception of a couple of small spots on the drivers side front floor pan. These spots are not a big deal but a brand new reproduction Drivers side front floor pan comes with the car if you would like to replace it. The body looks pretty nice from just about every angle and its a good solid driver that can be enjoyed just as she is or you can take it to the next level if you'd like. This car is actually quite solid overall and especially for a car that was sold new in Pennsylvania. The Fairlane 500 was sold new in the Pittsburgh Pennsylvania area and spent its life in that area with the same family until 2010 when it was sold to a collector in Illinois who had a fairly large collection and wanted a 1957 Ford to add to his collection. This collector in Illinois sold the 1957 Fairlane to my friend back in December of 2011 after he was diagnosed with a serious illness and he told my friend that he was going to be selling off some of his other cars because of his diagnosis which is said to be quite grim. My friend purchased this 1957 Fairlane 500 because he wanted a 1957 Fairlane for many years and when this car became available he drove out to Illinois and picked the car up in person and was very happy with the car. The car is now for sale by my friend who is a diehard Ford guy who is well known in our area for the cars and engines that he's built. He has been a serious Ford guy for the last 50 years and he is still doing the same great work to this very day. He was a mechanic at one of Philadelphia's well known Ford Dealers back in the 60's through the early 70's before he went onto to open his own shop. He is known for building wonderful Ford Hot Rods as well as many serious Ford High Performance engines from Ford 427's to Nasty Small Blocks, SOHC and everything in between. This guy is the real deal and knows these old cars and their drivetrains better than anyone that Ive ever known and when he tells me that this 1957 Fairlane 500 is a good running and solid original car then you can take that to the bank! The only reason that this 1957 Fairlane 500 is for sale is because he was able to purchase another 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 that is a former AACA Winner and at the time that he bought the car in this auction, the former AACA winner was not for sale. Needless to say, the 1957 Fairlane 500 former AACA winner was considerably more expensive than the car in this auction. I have watched the prices of the 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 models for sometime now and I believe that this 1957 Fairlane 500 to be reasonably priced considering its nice solid body, excellent running condition and its originality. The 1957 Fairlane 500 in this auction is a car that can be driven and enjoyed just the way it is although I would have the seat redone and the carpets installed. This is not a restored car so its not a show car but its a nice clean excellent running 57 that is fun to drive and has really nice original look. I looked the body over pretty well the day that I took these pictures and the only signs of any rust were the couple of small spots on the drivers side front floor pan. The body appears to have been quite solid before it was repainted and the only thing that I could see is what looked to be a little work on the rear quarter panels although the rear wheel openings still had nice edges and the wheel lips on both sides are nice and solid and the lower quarters are still nice and solid with metal all the way down to the very bottoms of the quarters in front and behind the rear wheels. This is just a good solid 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 that looks nice and runs very well and will make a wonderful driver for the next owner. Its not a restored show car but a nice solid original car that looks very nice and runs beautifully. I think the new owner will be quite pleased with this car! The Interior in this 1957 Fairlane 500 is all Original. The Dash is wearing all of its Original Gray Paint that still looks very good for an Original untouched Dash. The Original Dash Trim and all of the Original Knobs, Bezels look good. The Factory installed Steering Wheel still has a Nice Clean look with its Original Chrome Horn Ring. The Original Dash has a Nice Clean look and is all Original with that very cool 1957 Ford Instrument Cluster with a working Original Speedometer, working Odometer, working Gas Gauge, and working Temperature Gauge. The Original Dash Trim is still in Good Original condition and all of the Original Dash Knobs are in Good condition with working Original Windshield Wipers and Working Heater and Defroster. The Dash is Original right down to the Original AM Radio and the Original Clock but the Clock does not work and I dont think Ive ever seen a 1957 Ford with a working Clock. The Original AM Radio doesnt seem to work properly either although I believe its a simple fix but most importantly, its still in the Dash and in Clean Original condition. The Headlights work fine as do the Original Brake Lights and the Turn Signals work. Just about everything on this 1957 Fairlane works as it should or at least anything thats important such as the Speedometer, Gauges, Lights, Heater, etc etc. The Original Front Seat Cover is showing its age and the front seat would benefit from having new foam cushions and new seat covers installed as the front seat cushion and the seat cover is worn on the drivers side while the passenger side held up pretty good. The Rear Seat still looks pretty nice overall and would look even better with a little cleaning although its fine as it is for a driver. The Original Front Door Panels and Rear Interior Panels are pretty nice just the way they are with the Original Armrest still in place and would look even nicer with a little cleaning or detailing. The Back Seat still has the Original emblem in the upper middle portion of the Seat and it appears to be in good original condition. The Headliner is complete and will serve you well for a driver although it has some areas which show some staining but again if your just looking for a weekend cruiser then its fine just the way it is and it might even come up nicely with a little cleaning. The Original Interior Dome Light works fine when you open either the Drivers or Passenger side Doors and lights the interior up nicely. Overall I would say that the interior is in Good Original condition but would benefit from a Good cleaning & detailing throughout otherwise I would only have the Front Seat redone and a new carpet set installed. This 1957 Fairlane 500 2 Door Coupe is a Good Original car that spent the first 53 years of its life with the original owners family and was garaged for many years. Its a great running car with the original 312 4 Barrel engine and the 3 Speed Column Mounted Manual Transmission and Optional Overdrive. The car starts easily and runs great. The car drives very well with nice tight steering and brakes nicely with a good firm brake pedal. The Body on this car is in Good shape although Im sure it had some work done before it was repainted back in 1986. The Paint still looks good and is the correct original Code "H" Gun Metal Gray Metallic and it has a really nice look and a great shine. This 1957 Fairlane is an Awesome Local Cruise Night car / Weekend Driver although I would venture to say that with a little Detailing, New Carpets and the Front Seat Redone, this 57 Fairlane would be right at home at any Local Show! Im not talking a full blown show car but it would surely fit in with many of the cars that I see at our local shows. Keep in mind that this is not a restored show car but rather a Good Original well maintained 55 Year old Ford that has the potential to be a Show car depending on how far you'd like to go with the car. I like the car just the way it is except Id do the front seat & carpets. The way that this 1957 Fairlane 500 sits, its a very Attractive Weekend Cruiser that runs and drives very well and you would certainly be right at home at your local Cruise Night Gathering or any Local Car Club Event. Remember this is a true 64,000 Original Mile car that was with the same family for 53 years. It was always loved and the good original condition of the car shows that from front to back. Its a great driver that is fairly priced and if your a 1957 Ford guy or would like to own a 1957 Fairlane 500 then you might want to consider this car as its very original and it was obviously loved and well maintained over the years. This is a turnkey driver that can be enjoyed now although I would install new carpets, clean the interior and have the front seat redone at some point. Its a nice driving car that has that great Classic look and those Cool 57 Fins along with that Awesome Gold side trim which will really make this car a standout at your local Cruise Night gatherings or Car Club Events! ABOVE: The Front Bumper is Nice and looks great with the Optional V Bar Bumper Guard. These 1957 Fairlane 500's look great from the front and back! ABOVE: A Nice shot of the Passenger Side of the 57 Fairlane 500 shows the nice Original Trim and the Cool Body Lines and Rear Fins! These 57's are just flat out sharp from absolutely every angle and the trim is truly unique! ABOVE: The 1957 Fairlane 500 shows nicely in the garage with a great shine! This is an ALL FORD Garage with nothing but cool Ford vehicles powered by everything from a 6 cylinder to Cammers! ABOVE: The Drivers side Door Gold Trim is Nice as is the Paint. Those little marks below the Door Handle are just from my dirty fingers leaving marks on the Door. Those marks are NOT issues with the paint...just dirty smudges from my fingers. The Trim on the car is pretty Nice Original and looks nice. This is not a restored car but rather and Original 64,000 Mile car thats been repainted once! ABOVE: The Drivers side of the 1957 Fairlane shows well in its Gun Metal Gray Metallic and as you can see the Original Trim still fits well and looks nice as does the Rare V Bar Front Bumper/Grill Guard. ABOVE: The Fairlane 500 from the Passenger side rear shows the Rear Bumper with the cool Optional Exhaust Deflectors peaking out from under the Rear. This is a Fun Driver that runs very well and has a really cool Original look! ABOVE: This picture was taken down low to show the Nice Rear Bumper and the cool Exhaust Deflectors along with the nice fit of the Trunk lid. ABOVE: This picture from the Passenger side front shows everything from the front clear to the back of the car. Its just a really cool ride and will get lots of attention anywhere its driven. The Original Hubcaps are in place on all 4 corners and have a nice clean original look which works well with the Whitewall Tires. ABOVE: The Passenger side Rear shows the car in nice bright sunlight and as you can see, the car looks very nice. This is a great weekend driver or Cruise Night car! ABOVE: The Drivers side front shows the nice Original Trim around the Windshield as well as the Cool Fender and Door Trim. Notice the 1988 Pennsylvania State Inspection Stickers on the Windshield. The car has around 300 miles put on it since those Inspection Stickers were installed. It was with the Original Owners Family at the time of that last inspection and stayed with them another 22 years before they decided to part with the car as they simply were not using the car as much as they had hoped. These old cars like to be driven in my opinion and its definitely a good thing to take them out from time to time to stretch their legs so to speak! ABOVE: The Passenger side front Fender, Hood , Wheel and Side Trim all show nicely in this photo and as you can see the Original Side Trim is nice for a 55 year old Original car! The Antenna has the unusual base which I believe to be an Original Ford Antenna and looks very nice with nice Chrome on the Base. ABOVE: The Passenger side Fender, Rocker and Front Wheel & Tire show nicely in this picture. The Rocker and Lower Fender are super solid which is one of the problem areas on these cars but this car is very solid! The Paint looks nice as you can see and the Original Wheels, Hubcaps and the Whitewall Tires really give the car a nice clean Original look all around! ABOVE: The Cool 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Rear Quarter Fins with the nicely placed Factory Taillights and the Cool 1957 Only Rear Bumper. This Rear Bumper was not used on the base model Fairlane or 300 Models for 1957. These Rear Bumpers have great lines and they really look great from any angle. This one looks even cooler than most with the Optional Delta Wing Exhaust Deflectors! ABOVE: This picture shows all of the Nice Original Polished Stainless Trim around the Front Windshield and along the Roofline. This Trim is in Beautiful Original condition and looks great all around the car from the front to the rear! ABOVE: The 1957 Fairlane from the Passenger side front all the way down the side to the rear of the car. Its a good straight original car overall with a very cool look! ABOVE: The 1957 Fairlane 500 shown from the Drivers side from the Front and all the way down the side to the rear Quarter Fin! This is just a cool car and these 57 Fairlanes have such a unique look that really sets them apart from all of the other cars made in 1957 and there were many Cool cars made that year as we all know! ABOVE: The Top of the Passenger side Fender is Nice and solid. This was one of the problems areas on many of the cars made in 1957 and these Fairlanes were no exception. This car has incredibly solid Fenders and all around the Tops of the Fenders are nice, solid and clean. ABOVE: The Top of the Drivers Side Fender is as solid as a rock and you can see the Nice Chrome on the Front Bumper as it shows me taking the picture in the reflection. These 1957 Fairlane 500's have great looking frontends and the same can be said for the rest of the body with its cool lines, great trim and cool Fins!!! ABOVE: The 1957 Fairlane 500 from the Drivers Side Rear shows the very Sharp Rear Bumper with the cool Exhaust Deflectors sticking out from under the Bumper. This car is a nice driver just as she sits. Like most Classic cars, it could always be taken to the next level but this is a great running Fairlane thats a lot of fun to drive! ABOVE: This picture was taken in the shade when it was a bit cloudy and as you can see the Gun Metal Gray Metallic Paint takes on a deeper/darker Gray in this lighting. The front Bumper shows very well in this picture and the Rare V Bar Grill/Bumper Guard looks great! ABOVE: A Nice Close-Up photo of the Front Bumper with the V Bar Bumper Guard shows everything quite well from the Grill and Parking Lights to the Original Hood Ornament and the Original Fairlane emblem on the Panel just above the Grill! ABOVE: The Fairlane 500 from the Drivers side Rear down low which shows the solid rear wheel openings along with the Cool Fins and Taillights! ABOVE: This is a Great Picture of the Frontend that shows the Nice Original Front Bumper and the Nice Original V Bar Grill / Bumper Guard. You gotta love the Front on these 57 Fairlanes as they so cool and unique when compared to other cars of the era. The very simple Grill has a great look and just above that you see the working Headlights and if you look back just a little further then you will see the Dual Mirrors on the Front Fenders! These 57 Fairlane 500's are just outright COOL!!! ABOVE: The Roof Paint shows nicely and the Original Roof Trim is really Nice! ABOVE: The Drivers Side Front Fender and Wheel with the Nice Original Wheel Cover and Whitewall Tire look great on this 1957 Fairlane 500! ABOVE: Nice picture showing the all of the Body Panel fit from the Hood to the Fenders and Doors and even the Rear of the Hood at the Cowl. The Trim is nice original and the Dual Fender Mounted Mirrors give the car that Classic 50's look! ABOVE: The Passenger side shows the nice panel fit from the fenders, doors, hood and cowl and you can see just how nice the paint looks in this photo. The Matching Passenger side Mirror gives this car that Classic 50's look and the Cool Antenna with its unsual Chrome Base is also Classic 50's Ford. The Original Hood emblem looks nice and the Original Gold Trim on the sides is nice as is the Stainless trim around the Windshield and all around the Rood Drip Rail... just a nice clean Turn-Key driver that can be enjoyed without breaking the bank! ABOVE: The Original Steering Wheel with the Original Horn Ring is still in good Original condition and the Original Instrument Cluster shows well and to the right of the Instrument Cluster is the Original Heater Controls and the Original AM Radio ABOVE: The Original Instrument Cluster shows nicely and the Original Speedometer, Odometer, Gas Gauge and Temperature Gauge all work perfectly! ABOVE: The Original Odometer shows 64,956 Original Miles and is Correct! ABOVE: The Original Dash from the Heater Controls over to the Original AM Radio and the Glovebox to the far right. These could all use a few minutes of cleaning but everything is in Good Original condition. ABOVE: The Dash as shown from the Passenger side over to the drivers side. The Dash is very Original and has a nice clean look with all of its Original Paint & Trim ABOVE: The Original AM Radio is still in place and was never removed from the Dash and the Original Clock is to the right of the Radio. Notice the Round Bright Red markings on the lower portion of the Radio Dial between the 6 & 7 and between the 12 & 14. These were actually a Triangular shaped marking in the middle of the Round Red Circle and these were specifically for use in case of a serious Nationwide EMERGENCY Situation. These were the Stations for the EMERGENCY BROADCAST SYSTEM. Keep in mind that just about every Radio had these Emergency Bands because of the potential for WAR and especially after the United States was bombed at Pearl Harbor. These were the days of the Cold War and in case of any National Emergency, you would tune into these Stations for information that was broadcasted by the Government. This is a cool little piece of information for those guys who always wondered why these older cars had these markings on their Original Radios. ABOVE: The Original Instrument Cluster showing the Temperature Gauge working just fine and this was taken after the car sat running at an idle for about 20-30 minutes. The car does not overheat and runs very strong. The Air Vent Handles are in the Dash and in Good operating condition and the Windshield Wiper Switch and Cigarette Lighter knobs are nice and clean and both work just fine. The Heater/Defroster Controls are in the upper right hand corner and in good shape and in proper working order. The Original Gray Painted Steel Dash is still in very nice original condition as are the Bezels and all Knobs and Switches. ABOVE: Another cool feature on the 1957 Fairlane's was the Hood that opened forward from the Cowl up towards the front Bumper which was something that you rarely saw in American cars. This was something that was fairly common on foreign cars but rarely on American made cars of the era. The Hood Opens easily from the Original Hood Handle mounted under the Drivers Side of the Dash. ABOVE: The 312 engine and the engine compartment are very original with very little changed under the Hood over the years outside of common maintainance items like the belt, hoses, fuel pump, battery etc. The engine compartment still has many of the parts that this car left the Buffalo New York Assembly Plant with back in May of 1957! ABOVE: A New Fuel Pump with New Fuel Lines were installed and if you look closely at the Front of the Drivers Side Cylinder Head then you will see what appears to be the letters "OK" which were likely written in grease pencil by one of the Quality Control Inspectors at Ford's Buffalo New York Assembly Plant. This Ford Assembly Plant was closed in 1959. The 312 engine runs great and the 4 Barrel Carburetor was recently rebuilt and operates as it should. This engine compartment is extremely Original and would benefit from a little detailing which could be done nicely over the course of a weekend! ABOVE: The Original 312 engine could use some cleaning or a good detailing but it runs beautifully and performs like a good 312 4 Barrel engine should. Notice the Original Red & White "See Clear" Windshield Washer Fluid Reservouir on the Drivers Side Inner Fender. This unit is complete and in good shape. ABOVE: The Rear Underside of the 1957 Fairlane shows the Original 9" Rear with 3.70 Gears and the New Gas Tank was installed over this past Winter along with a New Gas Sending Unit. The Rear still has its Original Assembly Line installed 3.70 Gear Ratio metal tag attached to the frontside of the Rear. Its little things like this that tell me that this car was never messed with and speaks for its Originality! ABOVE: The Original Driveshaft showing the Factory Part Number stenciled in Yellow Paint. You can clearly see the "B7" to the far left and the rest of the part number is still all there. Its amazing that the Factory Yellow Painted Part Number is still readable on this Driveshaft after more than 55 years! I didnt clean anything on this car before I took the pictures or Im sure I could have taken a much better picture of this Yellow Painted Part Number on the Original Driveshaft. This should give you some idea as to this cars originality and the fact that it was obviously garaged for a long period of time or this Original Painted Part Number would likely be long gone! ABOVE: The interior is completely Original in this 1957 Fairlane 500! The Interior is still wearing its Original the Gray Basket-Weave Fabric and Gray Sculptured Fabric on the Front and Rear Seats as well as the Original Door Panels. The Original Front Bench Sear is worn and will need to be redone and new carpets installed but the Front Seat still has all of the Original Trim around the Bottom of the Seat and the Seat still adjusts properly by using the handle shown on the side of the Seat. Notice how clean the passenger side door panels look in this picture. They are real nice and need nothing more than a little cleaning and the car is actually a real nice clean driver that would need nothing more than the front seat gone over and the carpets to be a great looking weekend Cruiser or Local Cruise Night car!!! ABOVE: This is the Front Seat shown from the Passenger side and as you can see the car is extremely Original with nothing more than the front seat needing to be gone over and a new carpet set. The car is a great driver with a good solid body and it runs and drives nicely! ABOVE: The Headliner shows some discoloration but is still complete and original and as you can see the Original Dome Light works well and has a nice clean lense! ABOVE: The Rear Seat in its Original Trim Code "R" Gray Basket-Weave Fabric and Gray Sculptured Fabric. This is the Original Rear Seat and its actually in Good condition but needs to be cleaned. The spot that you see on the right front just needs to be cleaned up and Im sure it will come right off. My buddy didnt clean the interior because he wasnt sure whether or not he was going to have it restored in a different color or leave it original and just have the Front Seat redone. I would have the front seat recovered and install the new carpets and enjoy the car just the way it is but I guess thats just a matter of personal choice. ABOVE: The Center of the Top section of the Rear Seat shows the Original Ford emblem and the Original Rear Package Tray. The Rear Seat is still in Good shape. ABOVE: The Rear Seat with the Passenger Side Rear Interior Panel with the Original Armrest and Original Window Crank. The Original Interior Panels are still in really nice original condition and need nothing more than a little cleaning to be really nice. The Windows all roll up and down easily with no problems! ABOVE: The Rear Seat and the Drivers Side Interior Panel still look nice with a really Good Original Rear Panel, Original Armrest with the Original Ashtray and Original Window Crank. The Rear Interior Panels are very nice and need nothing more than a little cleaning to look awesome. The Window rolls down easily! ABOVE: The Original Drivers Side Door Panel still looks Nice and would look even better with a little cleaning. All of the Original Door Panel trim is in place as is the original Armrest and the Original Door Handle and Window Crank. ABOVE: The Passenger Side Door Panel is Original and still in Good Original condition. The Original Trim is still in place and the Original Armrest is in good shape as are the Original Window Crank and Door Handle. ABOVE: The Original Trunk Mat is complete although its a bit dirty. It will clean up nicely for a driver and the Original Jack is complete along with a spare tire. AROUND: The Original Trunk Floor with the Original Cardboard inserts are still in place on the outer section of each side of the Trunk Floor extensions. The Original Trunk Mat in still in place although it shows a its age. Its all intact but a little dirty. Look at how nice and solid the original Trunk Pan is... amazingly solid original! ABOVE: Another picture of the Original Trunk Pan in Nice Original condition! ABOVE: This picture shows the 1957 Fairlane 500 just as she is and its a very attractive Original Cruiser that runs and drives great! ABOVE: This Picture shows the 1957 Fairlane 500 from the Drivers side and includes everything including the roof and trim... just a real clean driver that runs great and goes down the road nicely! ABOVE: This photo shows this 1957 Fairlane 500 just as it appears in person! This car has great eye appeal and is a very good driver with nice paint and you will be proud to own and drive this cool 57 Fairlane 500! ABOVE: The Drivers Side Rear Wheel Opening with the Original Steel Wheel & Original Wheel Cover. You can see that everything is nice and solid and the car shows nicely. This is a very Attractive Weekend Cruiser with a solid Body and a Great Running Original 312 4 Barrel engine and it drives very well. ABOVE: The Drivers side Quarter Panel as shown from just behind the drivers side Door all the way back to the Rear Bumper. You can see the Nice wheel Openings as well as the nice solid Rockers and Paint has a nice clean look with a great shine! ABOVE: Another picture showing the drivers side quarter from the Rear Bumper all the way up to the Drivers Door. The car looks good and the Original Fairlane 500 emblems on the quarter panels are still in good original condition! ABOVE: The Drivers Side from the front of the Rear Quarter to the front. You will see the pictures below this that will show the Rear Quarters so your getting the full length of the car in the next 2-3 pictures. This picture shows the nice Original Trim and Nice Body Panel Gaps and Fit. This is a great driver that you will truly enjoy owning and driving. Its a good solid original car from front to back and the paint shows nicely... not a show car but a nice original car that needs little to be a super nice driver and Im only talking about the Front Seat, Carpets and a nice engine detailing. ABOVE: The Passenger side Rear Wheel Opening, Lower Quarter and the Rockers all look nice and clean with the Nice Gun Metal Gray Metallic Paint and as you can see this car has a nice solid body with no major issues .... just a good Original car that was with the same family for 53 years and was always well maintained and eventually repainted in its Original color. This is a nice looking Driver that you will get many years of fun out of! ABOVE: The Passenger side showing the car from the lower section of the Rear Quarter Panel all the way up the passenger side. You can clearly see the wheel opening with the Good solid lips around the Rear Wheel Openings. This Fairlane is a Good Solid Original car that can be enjoyed for years to come! ABOVE: The Original Drivers Side Post Mounted Trim Tag which was removed for the New Paint job back in 1986 and then reinstalled after the car was painted. The longtime owners did not want the Tag to be covered in overspray. The Tag reads as follows: Serial Number: D7BT148705 which decodes as D = 312 - 4 Barrel 245 Horsepower engine 7= 1957 Model Year B= Built at Ford's Buffalo New York Assembly Plant 148705 = Ford's Buffalo New York Sequential Build Number Below the Serial Number are the Codes for the Body, Color, Trim, Date, Trans, Axle Body: 64B= Fairlane 500 2 Door Club Sedan Color: H = Gun Metal Gray Metallic Trim: R = Gray Masket-Weave Fabric & Gray Sculptured Fabric Date: 3E = Scheduled Production Date of May 3, 1957 Trans: 2 = 3 Speed Manual Column Shifted with Overdrive Axle: 3 = 3.70 Rear Axle Ratio Conventional ABOVE: The Rear of the 1957 Fairlane 500 as shown in my friends garage. The car looks great with the lights showing the nice finish paint finish and the Cool Rear Fins and the Unique 1957 Rear Bumper really make for one COOL Fairlane 500! ABOVE: The Passenger side shown under the garage lights with a good view of the Hooded Headlights which were often a problem area on these 57 Ford's but this one is nice and solid with very nice original sheetmetal and real nice original chrome and trim. ABOVE: The Drivers side shown in the garage gives you a really good look at the car and its nice paint finish... nice original V Bar Grill/Bumper Guard and nice original trim... just a nice original 64,000 Original Miles 1957 Fairlane 500! ABOVE: The 1957 Fairlane 500 frontend with the nice original front bumper and nice optional V Bar Grill / Bumper Guard. Take a good look at this picture and you will get a good idea as to the overall condition of the car. Its a nice Clean Driver that runs and drives beautifully and the car will need the front seat redone & a new carpet set to be a great Weekend Cruiser, Daily Driver or Cruise Night car! Its just a good old car that was owned by the same family for 53 years before it was sold to a collector in Illinois and then made its way to Pennsylvania after the collector in Illinois was diagnosed with a serious illness. My friend in Pennsylvania is a longtime Ford guy who spent many years as a mechanic at one of Philly's most popular Ford Dealers of the 60's-70's before he opened up his own Repair shop which was also a Hot Rod Shop and Custom Shop that built many 427 Powered cars as well as many Cammer powered cars and Boss 429 powered cars over the years. The only reason that this car is for sale is because my friend who is nearing 70 years of age, is because he was able to buy another 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 AACA Winner that he was after for awhile and as fate would have it, the AACA Winning 1957 Fairlane became available earlier this year and so the 1957 Fairlane 500 in this auction is now for sale. Rest assured that if he did not get the opportunity to buy that AACA Winner Fairlane 500 then the car in this auction would not be for sale! That you can bet the house on! ABOVE: A Good Close-Up of the 1957 Fairlane 500 shows the nice original Bumper and nice original Panel Fit...Nice Original Trim, etc etc. This is a great old 1957 Ford that will make somebody a very happy new 57 Ford Fairlane 500 owner. ABOVE: Nice Close-Up photo of the 1957 Fairlane 500's Grill, Bumper, Passenger Side fender Trim, and the V Bar Grill / Bumper Guard. This cars shows nicely as a fun driver with great eye appeal and is a very solid original car. You will enjoy driving the old Ford as its a real pleasure to drive and runs beautifully! ABOVE: This picture says it all. This is a Nice Clean Original 1957 Fairlane 500 and its powered by its excellent running Original 312 4 Barrel engine with Dual Exhaust and the 3 Speed Manual Transmission with Overdrive and its Original 3.70 Geared Rearend. Its a true 64,000 Mile car and it looks just as you see in these pictures except you cant see the minor imperfections like the minor chips, nicks and minor scratches. Its a very Original car that was well maintained and received some minor body work and paint back in 1986 which is the only repaint of the car since new or so I was told. It surely looks like the car has one repaint since new. The Trim is all Original and looks very nice for the most part. Im sure there are a couple of nicks and dings but I didnt see anything terrible. This car would really benefit from a new seat cover set and the front seat should be redone but thats about all the Fairlane would need to be a real nice weekend driver or Cruise night car. You can enjoy the car now as the seat wont stop you from enjoying the car now but I would have the seat redone at some point. The wear on the front seat is truly the worse thing about this car in my opinion and thats minor stuff. Its not a concours show car but rather a well maintained Original thats been repainted once and runs and drives as good as it gets! Please call me with any questions or concerns. Thanks again for looking.... Tony 215-499-2693On Aug-06-12 at 19:49:42 PDT, seller added the following information: ABOVE: This is a picture of the Passenger side Front Floor Pan as shown when the front carpet was removed. As you can see the Passenger Side Front Floor Pan is Excellent and still showing the Original Factory applied Primer/Paint with the little Black markings from the Factory Sound Deadener or underlayment. The Floors on this car appear to be very Nice except for the Drivers side Front Floor Pan which you can see below but a New Drivers Side Front Floor Pan will come with the car! ABOVE: This is the Drivers Side Front Floor Pan and you can see that it has a few small holes that are to the far right. They are not bad at all and the area that shows the surface rust is very solid. You can either replace the whole front pan or piece it with the New Floor Pan that comes with the car. The Original Black marks on the Original Primer/Paint that was sprayed on the Floors from Ford's Buffalo New York Assembly Plant. The carpet in this car was never removed until my friend purchased the car and he planned on replacing the Floor Pan and so it was purchased and will go with the car. ABOVE: This is the Vin Stamping that is stamped into the Frame on the Passenger Side of the Frame about 8" from the Firewall. Its a very difficult area to photograph but as you can see, the last 6 digits of the Vin Number are clearly visible in this photo along with the Star that Ford used at the beginning and end of the Frame Vin Stampings. This was sanded down to reveal the Vin Number which just happen to be at the area where the Factory broach markings are on the heavy steel frame. This is the Real Deal and the Vin Number on the Frame and on the Trim Tag as well as the Title are all Correct, Matching and Original to the car! ABOVE: The Drivers Side of the Frame from up by the Front of the Door and back. You can see that the Frame is quite dirty but nice and solid. The Inner Rockers appear to be quite solid as well. The Exhaust System is a Factory style Dual exhaust that I thought to be Original but my friend assured me that it was replaced at some time and that they did a nice job. There are no Exhaust leaks and the engine sounds very good from the Tailpipes. I realize that these pictures are not pretty but they show what is important in my opinion. Keep in mind that this is not a restored car but rather an Original 64,000 Mile car that was with its Original Owners family for 53 years. ABOVE: The Passenger side of the car photographed down low to show the Rocker which you can see looks very solid and the same goes for the Frame. Its a Good solid car but not a Restored car or a Show car but an attractive Driver that can be used now and you can make improvements as you go along or just install the new carpet set and have the front seat redone and enjoy cruising the car now! ABOVE: The 1957 Fairlane 500 as shown from the second story of the Garage. This car has a much better view from the second story of the garage than I do from the second story of my home. ABOVE: Another picture of the 1957 Fairlane 500 sitting in its parking spot on the second story of the garage. You can see the nice the beautiful view that this car has from the large gorgeous windows in the second story of this amazing garage. ABOVE: The Drivers Side Rear Wheel Opening & Quarter Panel along with the Nice Original 1957 Ford Wheel Covers and the Nice Whitewall Tires! On Aug-08-12 at 20:31:37 PDT, seller added the following information: Ive had quite a few guys ask me about the body on this 1957 Fairlane 500 as well as many other questions concerning the engine, transmission, interior and the trim. This 1957 Fairlane 500 2 Door Club Sedan is a very good running car with the 312 4 Barrel engine and the 3 Speed Manual Column Shifted Transmission with the Factory Optional Overdrive. The engine starts easily and runs very smooth with plenty of power and responds very well when you step on the Gas Pedal and the Secondaries on the Carburetor open wide. She runs really strong for a completely stock 312 4 Barrel and I was surprised at just how responsive the engine was when I got into the throttle! The 3 Speed Manual Transmission shifts perfectly with no unusual noises and shifts nice and smooth through all the gears. It goes into Reverse easily with no issues and just couldnt work any better for an Original 3 Speed Manual Transmission. The Clutch, Pressure Plate, Throw-Out Bearing were replaced by the previous owner in 2010 and have less than 100 miles on those parts so parts are great with a nice smooth clutch that engages nicely with no chatter or slipping. The engine, transmission and clutch are all in great working order with absolutely no known issues. The Overdrive was not checked until the other day when I called my friend and asked him to see if the Overdrive was working properly as I had several guys as me about the Overdrive and I told them that I would have my friend check it out and I would get back to them with his findings. He bought the car figuring that he would go over everything on the car just like he does on anything that he's owned over the last 50 years. He just likes to build his cars his way and his cars are always outstanding examples that perform as great as they look and this 1957 Fairlane 500 would have been the same way when he was done with it. When he purchased the car he did nothing more check the numbers on the Trim Tag and then he checked the 312 to make sure that it was a good runner and then he took a magnet and ran it all around the body to see if it would stick to the body panels. He was very satisfied with the beautiful running 312 engine and his magnet stuck on every panel of the body so that was good enough for him so he loaded the car onto his Trailer and headed back home with his 57 Fairlane 500 resting comfortably on the Trailer for the long ride home. Keep in mind that the car spent the first 53 years of its life with the same family in the Pittsburgh PA area before it was sold to a collector in Illinois back in early 2010 and that collector was diagnosed with a serious illness which led him to start selling off his collection one by one and since the 1957 Fairlane 500 was one of the last cars that he purchased before he became ill, it was one of the first cars to be offered for sale. My friend was very serious about finding a decent 1957 Fairlane 500 2 Door with a 312 and a Manual Transmission so he made the trip with his Truck & Trailer all the way out to Illinois and so once he purchased the car, he had the tow and was quite happy with his purchase The Overdrive Unit is fine mechanically as it was checked yesterday by the owner who is a Ford Mechanic for the last 50 years and he said that the mechanical end of the Overdrive Unit is fine as it Free-Wheels when the Overdrive Handle is engaged which indicates that the Mechanical Unit is operating properly and there are no unusual noises when the Overdrive is engaged. If it did not free wheel or made any unusual noises when the car was being driven with the Overdrive engaged then the Overdrive might Unit might need some work but that is not the case and if you take the time to look over the 1957 Ford Service Manual or if your lucky enough to own one of the Ford Dealer Master Catalogs then you will see that these are among the things that Ford recommends you check when your Overdrive is not operating properly. It appears as though the Overdrive Unit has a simple electrical issue which means it could need something as simple as the relay, solenoid or one of the wires may have been left unplugged when the Clutch was replaced back in 2010. I believe there are 3 wires for the electrical end for proper Overdrive operation that need to be reconnected after you've removed the Transmission for a Clutch Replacement. It could be that simple but my friend said that he just didnt get a chance to check it any further as he has plenty of other work that keeps him busy but he is confident that its a simple fix and I have known this man for the last 30 years and he is an honest as they come. My friend said that if he was able to find the extra time to take a better look at the Overdrive unit then he would do so but he is a very busy guy so there are no guarantees but what I can say without any uncertainty is that my friend knows these old Ford's and you can be sure that he is right about the problem. The most important thing is that the Overdrive is fine mechanically so a simple electrical issue will not be an expensive repair nor will it be a difficult repair. Either way, this is not a big deal and if it were then I would surely let you know as I want to make sure that the New Owner knows as much about the 1957 Fairlane 500 as possible and my friend wants the buyer to be happy with the car. This 1957 Fairlane 500 drives up the road nicely and steers very well as the steering box was recently adjusted by friend and drives very well. It tracks nice and straight and the brakes work great as well. The car has a Scheduled Production Date of June 3, 1957 and was built at Ford's Buffalo New York Assembly Plant and shortly after it was shipped to the Original Selling Dealer in the Pittsburgh PA area where it would spend the and the next 53 years with the Original Owner and his family. The car was removed from storage back in the mid 80's and was gone over to make it a safe reliable driver again. In 1986 the Fairlane 500 received new paint and body work to the rear quarter panels and Im sure there was some work done to some other areas on the body but I dont see anything that appears to be serious. Take a look at the Original Floor Pans in the Photos and you will see the Original Paint on the Floor Pans from inside the car with an absolutely beautiful Passenger side Floor Pan and a Drivers side Front Floor Pan that has a few small holes that will need to be repaired or the Floor Pan can be replaced as the car comes with a New Reproduction Floor Pan. The Frame, Rear Floor Pans and the Trunk appear to be nice and solid. The paint on the car is attractive driver quality paint that looks to be a Base Coat/Clear Coat job and the nice thing about the Base/Clear is that you can have it wet-sanded and buffed to take out imperfections or any airborn dust that may have found its way into the paint. This car looks nice although I believe a good wet-sanding and buffing will give the paint a glass-like finish and will make it look very deep as well. The Paint is great just as it is for a driver but it has some minor imperfections such nicks, minor scratches and chips but there is nothing about the paint that is an eyesore or a major problem. Its a very pretty car but its just not a show car. Its a great Weekend Cruiser or a Local Cruise Night or Car Club Gathering car that can be confidently driven now with no apparent problems or issues. It runs nice and cool and all of the Gauges work properly. Its just a clean 1957 Fairlane 500 2 Door and you will have lots of fun cruising in this Classic Finned Ford with its Cool Gold Side Trim and that awesome Stainless Steel Trim that runs the perimeter of the Roof Drip Rail and all around the Front and Rear Glass! Of course there are always little things that you can do to a car like this that would be nice improvements just like any other Classic car but this car looks nice, runs great, drives very nice and is a very pretty car just the way she sits. As I mentioned earlier in the auction, the car will need to have the Front Seat Gone over and you will have to install a New Carpet Set but the Original Dash is Nice and all of the Original Door Panels are in Good shape needing nothing more than a Good cleaning. The Headliner looks much worse in the pictures than it is in person but it does have some stains but the photos just make them look much worse than they are. I wouldnt spend the money to have the Headliner replaced or at least not right away because its really not an eyesore. The Original Sun Visors are still serviceable and the Original Rearview Mirror is in Good shape. The Clock does not work and the Radio seems to be tempremental but its a typical Vintage Ford Radio that used tubes in 1957 so maybe I should have let it warm up a little more before I turned it off or at least thats what one of my friends told me. The most important thing is that all of the Original Dash Components are in place and in Good Original condition. The Exterior Trim is in Good shape and would benefit from a little polishing but I didnt see any Trim pieces that were damaged except for a little spot by one of the parking lights and a little ding on the bottom side of one of the Headlight Bezels. The Bumpers have a Nice Clean Original look with a Nice Shine and the Rare V Bar Bumper/Grill Guard is in Nice condition as well. There are some marks and scratches on the Bumpers but I dont remember seeing any dents or anything that appeared to be shoddy. The Bumpers are just Nice Originals! The Body is pretty darn good for a car that spent its first 53 years in the Pittsburgh PA area. The car does have solid rockers and quarters but they appear to have had some work done on them before the car was repainted back in 1986. I dont see anything that looks hideous or anything that is awful but the body has had some work done before it was painted 26 years ago. I did not do the body work or the paint so I cant tell you everything that was done to the body simply because I was not there but I can say that the car looks good and I would not be embarrassed to drive this car to my local Cruise In or Car Club Event. These 1957 Ford's were notorious rust buckets and here in Pennsylvania I am told that many of these 57 Ford's would have rust problems when they were just a few years old because of our harsh Winters with heavily salted roads so considering all of these things, I think that this 57 Fairlane 500 is a pretty good and fairly solid Original car. How many 1957 Ford Fairlane 500's that spent most of their lives in Pennsylvania would still have nice floor pans and a Driveshaft that still shows the Original Yellow Painted Part Number on the Driveshaft? As far as Originality goes, how many 1957 Fairlane 500's would still show the Original Ford Quality Control Inspectors Grease Pencil "OK" written on the Drivers side Cylinder Head after 55 years? This is another good indication that the engine was never messed with and was likely never apart. The engine runs beautifully and sounds great with no unusual noises .....starts easily and can sit at idle for 30 minutes without overheating. The engine runs very Strong for a completely Stock 312 4 Barrel and when you push the Gas Pedal hard enough to open the secondaries in the Carburetor, this baby really gets up and goes! This 312 actually feels stronger than the 312 in my Original 1957 Thunderbird "E" Bird with its 312 engine with 2-4's. Im not sure why but my 1957 "E" Bird was an Original 312 dual quad car but it just never seemed to make the power that I felt it should and that was rated at 270 Horsepower from the Factory while this 1957 Fairlane with its single 4 Barrel Carburetor is rated at 245 Horsepower. Im not saying that this 1957 Fairlane 500 is a super fast by any means but its a very Strong running Original 312 4 Barrel engine. The car is 55 years old and it has never been restored outside of having some body work done, New Paint, New Gas Tank, New Fuel Sending Unit, New Fuel Pump, New Fuel Line, Carburetor was rebuilt, New Clutch, Pressure Plate and Throw-Out Bearing and some other little odds and ends replaced. Its a Cool 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 2 Door Club Sedan with its Original 312 4 Barrel engine with Factory Dual Exhaust and the Original 9" Rear which still has its Original "3.70" Gear Ratio Tag attached to one of the bolts on the Center Section of the Rear! I also wanted to mention that my friend has been a Ford guy for the last 50+ years and a mechanic who worked for a well known Ford Dealership here in Philadelphia from the early 60's through sometime in the 70's and he then opened up his own shop where he did Auto Repair as well as State Safety Inspection for many years. He always had a garage filled with Classic Ford's at any given time and there were always 427 Powered vehicles in the shop as well as several Cammer Powered vehicles just to name a few. This guy knows how to build a car and about 10 years ago he said that his 1967 Fairlane 500 XL would be his last restoration and the car is a real work of art that is not only a constanst First Place Winner but its also a car that gets driven and driven often. This 1967 Fairlane 500 XL was a Nice Original 390 car to begin with and needed little to be a super nice car but he completely dismantled the car and did a complete restoration just because he wanted the car done "his way" which included a 427 and a 5 Speed Transmission with a tricked out Shifter that looks like the Original 1967 Ford Factory 4 speed shifter. It is however one of his cool Custom pieces that he made to keep the car looking like an Original car only the Factory Shifter is now shifting the Brand New 5 Speed Transmission. He is one of those guys that cant leave anything alone so you can be sure that this 1957 Fairlane 500 would have been done the same way... "his way" which means he would have taken this very Pretty, Great Running, Nice Clean Factory 312 4 Barrel car and he would have done a complete restoration on the car. Thats just the way that he does absolutely every car that he's done for himself in the past. The car is a Nice Clean and very Attractive Original 1957 Fairlane 500 2 Door Club Sedan that runs great and drives beautifully. This Fairlane 500 needs nothing but a carpet set and the front seat redone to be a nice clean driver that can be enjoyed for many years. Its just a cool driver that you can enjoy now and if you want to make some improvements as time and finances permit then you can certainly go that route but it really doesnt need anything more than the carpets and seat redone in my opinion to be a Nice Weekend Cruiser! One more thing for now, the Frame has dirt which has accumulated over the last 55 years so it doesnt look real pretty but it looks to be as solid as a rock. My friend had the car on a Lift when he first bought the car last year and he told me that the Frame and the Floors were excellent except for the drivers side front floor pan. This is why the Original Carpets were removed. He planned on replacing the Floor Pan but when he just didnt have the time to work on the car. I will be taking a ride over to my friends garage on Thursday morning to take more pictures of the undercarriage to show the frame mounts and some other sections of the undercarriage so you guys know a little more about the car. I will also take more pictures of the rockers from the inside and outside and I will pull the Trunk Mat all the way out so that you can see the entire trunk. Im just doing the best that I can because I want the new owner to be happy with their purchase. It belongs to a very dear friend and he wants the new owner to be satisfied with their purchase as well. Its important to both of us that you get enough information to make a well informed buying decision. Thanks again for all of the interest in this 1957 Fairlane 500 and Good Luck with your bids, Tony 215-499-2693On Aug-09-12 at 21:05:25 PDT, seller added the following information: THE OVERDRIVE IS WORKING PROPERLY!
