History: Body was custom built by Mitchell Bentley. This model was built to compete with the Chevrolet Nomad. Chevrolet stole Buick's chief designer to build the Corvette. Buick now had a spy at Chevy. When Buick found out about the Nomad, they petitioned GM to build a similar model for the 1955 year. GM agreed. However, Fisher body could not make the body for this model until the 1960's, due to work load. Buick was able to go outside GM and have a custom body built. The body was built by Mitchell Bentley of Ionia Michigan. This body wouldn't be ready until the 1957 model year and GM required this model be a 4 door hard top wagon, not a two door model like the Chevrolet Nomad. The VIN stamp on the body lists Mitchell Bentley as the maker. Uncle Loren purchased this new in Los Angeles and it has always been in the family. We bought it from Uncle Loren after his retirement to Montana.Condition: Complete but is in need of restoration. I stopped driving when the transmission let go in 1997. Body has minor blemishes and some rust spots. I have had this car always stored in a garage.Extras: All 4 hub caps, original overhaul and body manual, spare cylinder head for restoration if needed, oil filter and other books and publications on Buick automobiles.
