Here we have a ONE OF A KIND! 1978 F-150 Custom Step Side! Its also know as a early 78, one of fords half year trucks with the ford letters on the hood and the round headlights. I do belive that the half year early 1978 (built it late 77) short box step side was the least produced truck of all the F series trucks, and has been the best selling truck in america ever since. It was a show truck some years ago, however not being in a garage for years has allowed mother nature to start to get at her. The engine is the 400 with the M heads and runs like a top, it has less than 8,000 on a rebuild. It dose not drip or burn a drop of oil. The C6 transmition shifts nicely but is starting to seep around the pan, I think its just a pan seal. Ive only added one quart in 2 years. Has factory air and does work but has needed to be recharged after the rebuild. The supention is a quality 6" rancho setup with dual rs 5000s shocks in the front and rs 9000s in back. Custom matching bumbers and rollbar. The custom box and fenders are hard wood and dimond tuck metal in good shape but the bottom bed wood needs replaced. The truck still looks good but the paint is fading and chiping and the cab is starting to show rust. Its not too bad yet and should fix without a total overhull. The custom interior is in good shape. Like I said it runs and drives awsome but there is a few things that will need to be replaced in the near furture, like front u joints, tie rod ends and the steering box has about 1 inch of play in it...still drives stright and 4X4 works good. The chrome rims are pitting but the 35" BFGoodrich TA tires have 80% or better tread. Id like to find someone with the money and ambition to restore this custom truck as it is. Its killing me to even consider selling this truck, ive had it for over ten years and I just don't drive it much and have no garage for it. It will just waste away with me keeping it. This truck is the ultimite head tunner! Its a BEAST and the only one like it in the country. Ive always had dodge and even chevy fans complement this truck. I was only going to put this on ebay once, but im takeing advantage of a promo. So l lowered the reserve a bit. If you do look up the book vaule of this truck you have to look under a 77 Flareside short wheel base instead of 78 because it came off the line in 77. If you have any questions please ask.
