Vehicle Detail
1960 Metropolitan 1500, Series IV Coupe Produced October, 1959. All Series IV improvements including higher compression 1500 engine, external deck lid, vent windows. Radio equipped. West coast car - from San Francisco Bay Area- restored approximately ten years ago cosmetically and mechanically, including all new rubber and most plating redone. (Grille still original, slight patina on plating, rest of plating is redone and excellent. Autumn Yellow over Frost White. Paint is glossy and smooth with excellent panel clarity. Only a couple of minor marks, no dents or dings. One chip on cowl vent, shown in photos. Excellent glass and lenses, Instrument panel and garnishes refinished as well. Interior completely redone last fall including seats, door panels, side panels, headliner, carpeting, pedals and steering wheel. (Cost- $3000) Found weak spots in floor pans at that time so front and rear floors were replaced at Metropolitan Pit Stop in North Hollywood, Fall 2010 (Cost- $3900.) Engine rebuilt at time of restoration, starts easily and runs very well, Rear axle was replaced with a highway ratio at that time- I am told it was from a Triumph. Fun to drive and happy out in traffic, but will not be mistaken for a Ferrari or a Rolls-Royce. More "thumbs up" than any other car we have! Much mechanical updating within last 200 miles- rebuilt carburetor, starter, tune up parts, (plugs, condenser, coil), batter, fuel tank dropped and new sending unit installed. (All told, right on $3000 in maintenance.) Correct reproduction tires (bias ply) with factory correct whitewalls. Neat as a pin and tidy including engine compartment and undercarriage, trunk beautiful and new interior looks like no one has ever sat in it. All controls and indicators work and radio powers. Original owner's manual in glove compartment. Presents very well cosmetically and a pleasure to run around in. It has made a few longer highway trips and will hold 60 mph pretty effortlessly, but it was designed as a city commuter. Presently kept as a pleasure car in Palm Springs. Please take a moment and review a Photo Album of 75 detail pictures here. Reasonable reserve that basically accounts for what has been spent on it- excluding the original purchase price. May be viewed in Palm Springs, CA- please email for appointment. Questions? Please feel free to ask. This is a fine little car and I would not hesitate to recommend it.
