Vehicle Detail
Background info: Based on the 1986 model year E30 3-Series, the first M3 was introduced with a 2.3 L I4 S14B23 engine (also known as S14). The engine design was based on various BMW parts: basic block layout from the M10 4-cylinder (found in the 2002 and 320 series) overbored and reinforced to similar specifications of the BMW M88 inline-6. The valve train and head architecture from BMW's M1 and, later, M6 inline-6-cylinder was adopted for aggressive breathing. In contrast to later M3 iterations, the E30 M3 was campaigned by BMW as well as other racing teams including Prodrive and AC Schnitzer competing in many forms of racing including rally as well as German, British, Italian, Belgian, French, and Australian touring. The production of the E30 road car was to homologate the M3 for Group A Touring Car racing. It was to compete with the "2.3-16V"-model of the Mercedes-Benz W201 190E that was introduced in 1983. In its final years of competition, the 2.5-litre S14 engine in full race trim was capable of over 250 hp (190 kW) naturally aspirated. 1988 M3 Track Car with 221k on chassis. Stock engine with approximately 125k miles on it. All compression between 150-160 (see pics) VIN - WBSAK0306J2197216 Engine: Stock engine runs great and starts right up (push button start). Drivetrain 4.45 rear differential with Z3 finned cooler (stock is 4:10 unit with standard diff cover (not vented for cooling)) Seats and belts Sparco 2000 seats (2003) 5 point Schroth harness on drivers side with 5 point Simpson in passenger seat. Wheels - (1) Set of stock 15 x 7 with good used Toya Ra1 tires. Stock wheels are painted black. (BBS wheels that are pictured are not included in final auction price, BBS wheels pictured are available for $800 only to the buyer). Known issues - Front damaged at some time. The front fenders were replaced with fiberglass units and CF hood. The front clip was repaired. The strut towers do not appear to be damaged. During the repair, it looks like there was some bondo applied at the inside passenger front clip near strut tower (inside engine compartment, paint peeling on bondo), Also some rust at the rear license plate where license plates lights are located. The area below the front windshield cowl has been repaired at some point. There are two rust bubbles approximately 3/4" x 1/4" long on the driver side edge of the sunroof. Scratch in paint approximtely 4" long below emblem on the rear deck. The car is 24 years old and is not perfect but looks great and fits the purpose of a track car very well. This is a great car and makes the driver look very good. The light weight, chassis setup from BMW M Division, and great suspension make this car a great car for the track. The car is very neutral as the weight balance is near perfect. It is very light on tires and brakes for driving schools. If raced (verify with sanction body), updated belts, window net, and cut switch would be required. It is ready to go as a DE school as is. Also as these cars are getting rarer and rarer, they will most likely continue to climb in value. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for looking! Please have your financing assembled prior to bidding on the car. The car has been listed (3) previous times and both times the high bidder has not paid the deposit due within 48 hours of auction ending or come to pickup the car.
