Vehicle Detail
For Sale - 1966 Volkswagen Beetle. Restored about 6-7 years ago using mostly original parts or German OEM replacement parts. Restored to stock, original condition. Car has rare factory heater under the hood. Color is Java Green (an aqua/teal sort of color with more green than blue). When the car was repainted, the owner decided not to repaint the dash, so the dash paint is original and has a few scratches that a 46 year old car might be expected to have. Interior is black vinyl seats (with a basket weave pattern) and gray carpet. Mileage of 68,865 is believed to be original but I have no proof of it. Car is really clean, undercarriage is detailed and has never seen rain, snow, salt since restoration. I bought the car hoping to really enjoy it, but it never really was my thing. Guess I am more of a motorcycle guy. The car again, is very clean but it does need some attention/tlc. Listed are what I consider things that keep it from being "excellent" (I'm fairly picky about my vehicles, so I am trying to be thorough): 1) I put new points and plugs in it last year and it ran great. Then I put it away for winter storage. When I went to pull it out this spring, it will not turn over when I turn the key. It's something electrical, but I am an electrical moron. I bought a new battery, but that wasn't it. If you pull a plug and rotate the belts, the motor does turn, so it isn't froze. It's probably a starter, starter solenoid, a ground, I don't know. All I know is I don't have the time/interest to work on it, hence the sale. 2) Drivers side outside door handle does not work (has to open from the inside) 3) There is a door ding on the passenger side rear fender. Small, but it is there. 4) The previous owner had a roof rack on it. Something happened when he used it as the roof has some scratches and small waves in the metal that I did not notice until after I brought it home. 5) The glass is original and shows signs of wear, so it is not perfect but pretty good in my opinion. 6) Small paint chip on deck lid 7) I purchased Wolfburg West seat belts and installed the back seats and the drivers seat belts. The passenger belts need to yet be installed. 8) One hubcap has a small ding and a little discoloration in the chrome. Otherwise, this car is all mechanically up to date and good to go. Just needs a "car guy" that understands you have to work on them now and again as well. The car will be for sale locally as well, so I have the right to end it early or accept offers if need be. Buyer is responsible for picking this vehicle up or having it shipped, though I can't drive the car so it would have to be picked up at my home. On Jun-18-12 at 08:07:03 PDT, seller added the following information: I forgot to mention a few things..... 1) An official VW shop manual is included (see pics). 2) The car is still a 6-volt electrical system and has not been upgraded to 12-volt. 3) The headlight lenses are not original, they are from a Porsche. If you would like the originals, I can put them back on at the end of auction. I just went out and took about a dozen pictures, but I can't seem to capture the dings/waves that are in it on camera. While I can't be 100% sure, I feel pretty positive that they might be able to be removed by one of those "painless dent removal" people.
