Vehicle Detail
1979 Dodge L'il Red Express Truck My father bought this truck new in 1979 from Action Dodge in Arlington Heights, IL. Used as an everyday vehicle until the mid 1980's, when it underwent a body-on restoration through the late 90's. As part of this decade long restoration project, this L'il Red Express, in Dad's words exactly: "Didn't look or sound this good the day I bought it!" New floors were installed, new rocker panels and doors. Bed and cab were media blasted. Bumpers were replated. All 5 original 5 slot rims were replated and new BF Goodrich tires hung. The 360 ci Engine Block is original to the truck. Now bored 30 over with Keith Black 10 3/4-1 pistons, crank ground 10/10, heads are 1970 340 ci, oversize valve, small chamber, with new hardened seats, new guides and new valves. Lunati 292/480 lift hydraulic cam, gives this truck a great sound and low end performance. New chain set and high volume oil pump. We were very careful to NOT change the external look of the engine. It looks factory stock, with original exhaust manifolds, valve covers, and dual snorkel cold air intake. The thermoquad carb was tossed, and an Edelbrock 600 cfm electric choke is in it's place. The 727 Automatic transmission was freshened with new clutches & seals, a mild shift improvement kit and a performance torque converter 2 1/2" welded exhaust to the original stacks with stainless step boards made by Rock Valley (I have the originals, they're in need of replating). All oak bed wood was remade & refinished. New stainless strips with original stainless hardware. Fenders & side wood also attached with original screw & button hardware - NOT carriage bolts! Paint was done in a 2-stage to the original color - Medium Canyon Red - and NOS Mopar decals & striping were applied. Not the cheap ones you get on the internet. The door decal is one full piece - not cut up letters & scrolls. The interior was also freshened with new carpet, seat was re-upholstered and new foam. Door panels were also trimmed with new vinyl and carpet added to the lower door area. Optioned at the dealer with Mopar AC and a clock. Clock works, unfortunately, the AC never worked well and still doesn't. I have all dealer documentation, window sticker, bills of sale, key knock-outs, etc. And all will be provided to the new owner. My interests have taken me in other directions, and the truck has not seen more than 1,000 miles since finished in 2000. A coat of wax and a spit shine is all it needs. I'd rather see someone enjoy the vehicle, and not let the truck just sit under it's cover in the garage. This auction is offered with no reserve. The highest bid will own one of the nicest Li'l Red Express Trucks around. Any questions or to come view the vehicle, don't hesitate to call me at 847-894-0314. We're just northwest of O'hare Airport, outside Chicago. All intelligent questions will be answered promptly. Think and read the ad before you ask. On Jun-12-12 at 20:39:23 PDT, seller added the following information: I've had an overwhelming number of emails, asking if I'll sell the truck outright. The truck is advertised locally, please call 847-894-0314 to discuss. I ask that bidders with less than 5 feedbacks - please contact me before bidding as I'm not interested in being involved in a scam. -- Thank you
