Vehicle Detail

This 1973 Triumph TR6 has had an EXTENSIVE mechanical overhaul. In addition to the mechanical overhaul, many aspects of the entire car have had many improvements. The work was done over the course of about a year (2007/2008) as a project between my father and myself. I'm 45 and my father 65. So this was no teenager job that resulted in a car that was then abused. One important note.... I don't know the actual miles. So it has "unknown" miles. The odometer wasn't working when I got it, so nobody knows how long it might have been driven during that time. We have about $10,000 in parts (and labor of the engine rebuild) into this car. But we are starting the bid at $5000 with no reserve because we are realistic about the value of the car, regardless of what we've put into it. I am mentioning the investment to help you get an idea of what has been done to the car. I don't know if it means anything with British cars.......... It is a "numbers matching" vehicle. Itis my belief that the engine/tranny/drivetrain are original to the car, but I have no definitive proof. What I do know as fact is that the numbers all match up to the VIN number of the car. Let's start with the engine.... It has been COMPLETELY rebuilt in 2007 by an extremely reputable British Car Specialist (T & S Imports in Ohio). It only has about 3000 miles on it..... T & S Imports in Ohio (www.tsimportedautomotive.com) did the job and was completed with close attention to the details and uniqueness of a 6cyl TR6 engine. Please visit their website and go to the section regarding their engine rebuilds. All the information regarding their rebuilds and the rebuild of this engine can be found on their website. This engine had a total rebuild (short block, heads, valve-train, ect). In addition to this...... The engine was bored out .020 due to the wear of the cylinder walls (of course with new pistons and rings!) .... They installed a mild performance cam that they call an S2 (see their website for specs of this cam) ..... By the way, when they rebuilt the head and valve-train, I selected to not use roller-rockers and stick with traditional tappets. New engine mounts, of course. Again, I encourage you to visit their website at www.tsimportedautomotive.com for the complete details of this rebuild. For what it's worth, the rebuild was well over $3000 in parts and labor. Additional engine components.... Distributor/Ignition: It has been converted over to electronic ignition and rebuilt to have a curve that matches the specs of the "S2" cam. The distributor was shipped out to Advanced Distributors in Minnesota (www.advanceddistributors.com) for its rebuild along with the specs of the cam. See their website for details. A high performance/high output coil now provides the juice for this system..... Spin-On oil filter adaptor..... Carburetors: Both have been completely rebuilt by me..... Emmisions System: What emmisions system?!? The entire thing has been stripped from the car. Other components under the hood.... Brake Master Cylinder: Brand New this spring 2012.... Starter: This is a "High Torque" style starter that is brand new and installed last fall 2011.... Heater Valve: Brand New when engine was reinstalled.... Fuel Pump: Mechanical one was replaced with an electric one and a plate was installed over the space left from the removed stock mechanical pump. Hoses: ALL of the hoses under the hood are brand new. Transmission.... The transmission has not been rebuilt. It felt solid and free of noises when it was removed from the car. So I left it alone other than replacing the front and rear seals and replacing the oil. It shifts great and smoothly through the gears and into reverse. The one exception to that statement is that you have to pull a little harder on the stick when going into 4th gear. This is not a problem unless you intend to race it and or have the need to slam through the gears. The over-drive does not work for some reason. I don't know if this is because of an internal problem or if it's an electrical problem. I believe that it's an electrical problem. I suspect a bad solenoid. But I really do not know what the problem is. New transmission mounts, of course. The Rear Differential.... The rear differential was not rebuilt. Like the transmission, it felt solid and free of noises when removed from the car. So I left it alone too. I did replace the oil and reinstalled it with new mounts. Electrical.... EVERYTHING WORKS except for the electronic overdrive and the brake warning sensor/light. I don't know if the overdrive doesn't work because of a bad switch on the steering column, if the solenoid at the transmission is bad, or if it's something else. Bottom line is that it doesn't work. But who needs 5th gear anyway, right..... Most of the switches in the dash have been replaced.... All of the gauges work and work accurately with exception to the fuel gauge. When the tank is full the gauge shows that it's slightly less than full..... Windshield Wipers, Horn, turn signals, backup lights and brake lights all work. All light bulbs have been replaced inside and outside of the vehicle and all work.... The wiring wasn't completely replaced. However, it was all checked over when the car was unassembled, reran and and everything (other than the over-drive and brake warning sensor/light) works. Inside the cockpit.... Brand new carpet.... Orginal seats replaced with seats from a Miata (original seats are included, but need refoamed and seams stiched up).... Wood dash panel has been refinished and looks very nice.... Brand new heater box/fan. Suspension and Steering.... The entire suspension has been rebuilt using poly bushings and new mounts. This includes new shocks. About the only thing that remains of the stock suspension are the solid steel components (parts that don't wear) and the springs..... The entire steering has been rebuilt and the steering rack itself is solidly mounted to the frame with high performance alloy mounts instead of the stock-style rubber mounted. Brakes.... As mentioned above it has a brand new master cylinder. All brake lines are brand new. All brake components have been removed, inspected and reinstalled. The pads/shoes are good and calipers work as they should and therefore have not been replaced. In The Trunk.... Inside the trunk will find a brand new fuel tank that has a brand new fuel sensor inside of it (fuel gauge in dash works).... Brand new carpet mat.... As you can see in the photos, I stopped there and never got around to ordering and installing the panels that surround the inside of the trunk to hide the fuel tank and other areas inside of the trunk. The Top.... The convertable top is a replacement, not the factory original. I did not include pictures with the top up. But can provide them upon request. The top is in great shape and is free of holes/rips/tears and the windows are clear. The Body.... The body is in somewhat rough condition. There is rust bubbling up in some areas under a previous repaint job by a previous owner and some minor dings here and there. I never got around to stripping the paint down to see what is beneath it. I intended to do this in the future and follow it up by replacing any needed body panels and ultimately have the car repainted. I loved driving the car so much after it was put back together from its mechanical overhaul that I didn't want to take it out of commision for that long to do body work. I can tell you that it looks great from 10 feet away. It does have brand new floors as the orginal ones were rusted out towards the firewall. The Frame.... The TR6 is known for weak and rusty frame components. This one had some rusty sections and therefore I had it reinforced in key areas. The T-Shirt at the center of the frame was replaced by a heavy-duty diamond plate T-Shirt. The rusty areas and areas notoriously famous for being week were repaired and reinforced with new steel welded in place by a welder/fabricator. New Tires... It has brand new tires and the wheels have been checked for roundness and straightness (TR6's are known to have wheels that go out of whack over time). How does it run?.... It runs GREAT! It has huge power (for a TR6) and has a nice idle with a little bit of a fun "lope" due to the mild cam. It will take you right up to 100+ miles per hour with little to no effort. I'm am far from an expert in tuning duel carbs, so I am 100% confident that someone with a higher level of skill and experience could make it run even better! How does it drive?... It drives as GREAT as it runs! The suspension rebuild using poly bushings and new mounts make this TR6 ride MUCH stiffer than a tranditional "stock" TR6. Plus, with the steering rack solidly mounted to the frame you get a lot of feedback from the road and firm feel. It goes straight down the road even though I have never had it aligned by a shop with an alignment rack. When I rebuilt the suspension I simply "eye-balled" and used messurements when putting the new tierod ends on and new rear trailing arm mount shims on (along with the rest of the new suspension). I then drove it, tweeked some adjustments, drove it again, tweeked some adjustments and so on. Even at high speeds up to 100 miles per hour it handles firmly, confidently and straight down the road with no struggle from the driver. Once you get over 100 miles per hour it starts to feel a little floaty, but I think that is because of the light weight of the car and the fact that I've only had it on country roads with rolling ups and downs. Speaking of 100 miles per hour and plus.... This car has never been raced or abused! I have only taken it up to those speeds a handfull of times and only did so just to find out "if, how and what it would do". Of course, there is no warranty at all. Also....Although I make the above statements, this doesn't mean that you will have the same opinion. Because of humon nature, one persons opinion doesn't always mean that it's the opinion of another. However, my above statements are honest and I have made no attempts to hide or deceive. So, once again, there is no warranty and no sort of return policy. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me! If you want additional photos, I would be more than happy to provide them to you. I want this to be a pleasant transaction for both you and I. So I will be more than willing to work with you on all requests.
