Vehicle Detail

1976 Ford Capri II Turbo This is one loud and nasty little Capri. It is an American spec Capri II that has body mods, interior mods, engine mods, and suspension mods to make is similar to what the folks in Europe do to their Capri’s over there. I bought it in 2007 as a running car from a dealer in North Carolina. I had no immediate plans for it then, but as a European Capri nut, I couldn’t let a running Capri slip through my fingers, so I bought it. At the time I had a parts car 1988 Merkur XR4Ti beside my shop, and as the Capri was a 2.3 liter 4 cylinder car, it didn’t take me long to decide to do the swap. As we all know, one thing leads to another and after lots of work, I ended up with this car. I “completed” the car in 2009, and have been driving ever since. Note, the pictures shown were taken before the lower stripes and rear badges were added. The video’s below are as the car is right now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zfF6nx6L5q8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pyEA-ZYz2Kw Here’s the details on the car: Body: 1976 Federal Capri II, rebuilt to European specs. Side markers welded up, rub-strips removed, Federal bumpers removed and mounting holes welded up. Mk1 Capri (steel) rear bumper, Fiberglass Mk1 Escort front quarter bumpers. Turn signals body mounted below front bumper, euro replica grill. New outer sills welded in during build. Any rust found underneath the car was cut out and patch panels welded in. Painted with Sunshine Yellow base/clear. Engine/Transmission: Complete 2.3 (Lima) Turbo 4 cylinder transplant from donor 1988 Merkur XR4Ti. Merkur engine harness and stock ECU used. HP electric fuel pump. 3” mandrel bent exhaust system all the way back to the tip. Standard side rail 4 speed. Centerforce dual friction clutch. Standard Capri driveshaft. Manual boost controller. Adjustable electric fan. Currently running 14lb of boost resulting in about 200HP at the flywheel. Suspension/brakes: 2” lowering front springs. 2” Lowering blocks in the back. Brand new (NOS) front struts. New manual rack, new TCA’s, new tie rod ends. New calipers, disks, pads, even new brake lines! Wheels/tires: Yokohama AVID’s (185/70/13) wrapped around blasted and repainted 13x6 Ford RS wheels. Interior: Racing seats, racing steering wheel. Original carpet. No HVAC system, no stereo system. All sound insulation has been removed. Boost and A/F ratio gauges mounted in dash where HVAC controls once were. All dash gauges work as they should! Even the illumination lights.. The car drives good for a 36 year old car. It is very light, and with 200HP on tap, no insulation, no silencers in the exhaust system, it makes for an interesting experience. From 70MPH to 100MPH it is mind boggling. To put it in perspective, I also own a Stage 2 WRX STI, and on the highway (in the dry), the Capri will obliterate it. In the wet, it’s a different story.. 70MPH drifts are it’s specialty. Hemmings Sports and Exotic magazine did a photo shoot of the car last year to write a feature on it. To my knowledge the feature has not yet been published. So, that’s all the good stuff. As with any old car, it has some needs. It is showing some minor bubbling on the passenger side rear fender around the wheel arch. The headliner is missing on the sunroof (the rest of the headliner is all there). The back seat is a mess. I have a cheep black cover on it and leave it folded down. The video tells the story on the engine. It’s runs strong, but is noisy (Cammy) and smokes a little on startup and accelerator tip-in. It has a very slight exhaust leak where to downpipe meets the turbo when cold. I would like to sell the car to make room for some of my other projects. I encourage anyone who is interested to view the car in person. It’s no show car, it’s just a fun toy to drive around (usually sideways when the boost hits….). It is located in Zipcode 34212, has a clear Florida title. It’s actually titled as a “Ford Capri”, not a Mercury, which is cool. I drive the car to and from work most days, which is a 36 mile round trip, so I am confident the car will get you home. So, you could fly in a drive it home. It does have a reserve on it, but it’s not outrageous, and I may lower it if the bidding gets close to it. Please email with any questions not answered in the details above. Car must be collected and paid for in person 7 days after auctions end. On Jun-14-12 at 05:27:06 PDT, seller added the following information: I've been asked a few times now about accepting a deposit via paypal, and full payment via wire transfer. The answer is yes. I will accept a small deposit via paypal to hold the car until wire transfer clears. Also, it seems a lot of the bidders are out of state and would need to have the car shipped. I will be happy to help load the car on a transporter. If you plan on having the car picked up by a transporter, please do not leave it too long to collect it. I think 2 weeks is plenty of time to arrange transport. As before though, full payment for the car must be made within 7 days of auctions close. Thanks.
