Vehicle Detail

1969 Westfalia Pop-top camper van. The odometer reads 08608 (past the 100,000 mile limit). This VW is 43 years old and has the usual collection of dings, drips and rusty spots. The camping equipment, pop-top tent, sink, icebox, hammocks, curtains, etc. are all original and functional. The pop-top tent is intact but the fabric is old and has some tears. New German tents are available online for a few hundred dollars. The engine has about 20,000 miles on a rebuilt 1600 cc, and it runs strong. The muffler is noisy and should be replaced. The battery is new. The tires are Michelin and have good tread. However they are old. A set of mounted rear snow tires is also included. It does not have a rear bumper. I have owned this van since 1975 and we have been camping in it all over the of the West and along the California and Oregon coast. It has driven the Baja highway twice. I hope to sell it to someone who wants to use it for camping. In New Mexico, this van qualifies for Horseless Carriage antique license plate. On Jun-08-12 at 05:41:51 PDT, seller added the following information: FURTHER INFORMATION IN ANSWER TO SOME EMAILS: I did not know what the value of my old VW camper would be, and that's why I signed up for an eBay auction with no reserve and no buy it now price. In fairness to the bidders (and maybe in accordance with eBay rules), I should let the auction play out. The brakes seem to work well (here in the mountains) but it does lose some brake fluid. The transmission seems to shift fine. Some of the doors are hard to open and close, partly because the new seals are stiff. Some of the window seals are deteriorated but still intact. I don't know of any suspension problems but it has not been checked on a lift. The bus was professionally repainted in 1988 and the interior reupholstered. There is rust in all the common places and most of it has been repaired along the way. I don't think there is any such thing as a solid 1969 VW bus unless it has been restored. This camper is not ready to go camping. It needs, as a minimum, a new tent and maybe 4 new tires, a new muffler, and to have the brakes and steering thoroughly checked out. This van is very old and is a restoration project. I know nothing about shipping the van. I was hopeful that someone would pick it up.
