Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a 1965 Dodge Custom 880 six passenger station wagon. 383 four barrel, automatic transmission, power steering and power brakes. 99,000 original miles. This is a running project car. I have not been able to restore this car as I had hoped. The engine runs decent and always starts even after sitting for a couple of weeks. There is a slight exhaust leak or sticky lifter. It sounds like an exhaust to me. The bottom end sounds good,no bearing rattle. It could definitely use a major tune-up. There is some smoke when the car first starts up,but usually clears after a minute or two. The power steering pump bracket is broken, someone has stuck a piece of metal in to help keep tension. The power steering does work. The transmission goes right into gears, but seems to need extra gas to move forward. I've heard several different opinions as to what the issue is. It could need anything from just a service all the way to a possible rebuild. The brakes work, and are a bit touchy. None of the wheels lock-up. It needs at least one wheel cylinder replaced due to fluid loss. It also probably needs a new brake booster. The interior is fair. It needs carpet, the front seat recovered and the headliner put back up. There is only the passenger front door panel, the other three door panels are missing. I have four door panels from a different car that I was going to modify that will go with the car. It also needs all four inside arm rests. All of the knobs are present on the dash. There are no cracks in the dash pad. All the glass is good, except for a small half circle crack at the very top of the windshield. The crack is about the size of a dime. The body needs paint. There is no major body damage. A few small dents on the sides that are hard to see becuse of the simulated wood panelling. The only rust issues are: the left front corner of the rear storage well(this is the worst area),both lower rear quarter panels have started bubbling and there is a small area of bubbling above the fuel cap. There is one small rust hole at that location. The only thing missing from the outside of ther car is the hood ornament. The front grille is in very good condition. The bumpers have good chrome. The front bumper has a small scratch to the left of the license plate area, and the rear bumper has a ding below the right tail light. The radio, heater, dash lights, horn, headlights and lighter do not work. It could be corrosion at the fuse box. Three out of four tail lights work and both of the park lights in the front bumper work. The dome light comes on when all doors except the driver's are opened. The windshield wiper motor is missing. I just re-did the sides of the car with contact paper. The original wood panelling was mostly destroyed by the sun and was quite ugly. The power tail gate does not work from the dash switch, and the ignition key does not turn in the outside tail gate lock. The tires have good tread, but are weather-cracked. The previous owner passed away,so I don't have much history on the car. I did find a log of all gas fill-ups and maintenence in the the glove box. It covers from Jan. 1988 when the mileage was 52,271,until June 2003 when the mileage was 97,562. The title is clear. I just paid $77 this morning(05-22-12) and will have a title in my hand in about four weeks. The winning bidder has the option of picking up the vehicle with or without the title. If the vehicle is paid for in full,I will store it until the title arrives. If the buyer opts to pick up the vehicle before the title arrives,I will send it via certified/registered mail as soon as I receive it. I apologize for not taking care of this before I listed the car the first time. The previous owner kept the license plates. If this car might work for you, please look at the pictures and ask any questions you might have before bidding. I would be more than happy to send addirional pictures or answer any questions the best I can. Feel free to call on the phone. (503)391-9102. Please no calls before 8am PST. Thanks for looking
