We are selling this classic 1989 Volvo 240 in very good condition. We purchased it from the son of the original owner, an elderly lady, about 6 years ago. At that time it was about 17 years old with about 42,000 miles. It now has a little over 93,000 miles. The first year we had the car, we did the following: New water pump. Flushed and replaced the coolant. New timing belt @ 55,000 miles. New brakes. New rubber mounting bushings for alternator, AC compressor, and PS pump. Flushed and replaced transmission fluid. Flushed brake fluid. New spark plugs. Within the last 4 years we have also done the following: Many oil changes. New MAF sensor. New master cylinder. New brake distribution sensor. Flushed brake fluid. New odometer drive gear. Valves adjusted (engine compression was checked when the valves were adjusted - all cylinders were within 5 psi) Within the last year we have also done the following: New brake rotors. New brake pads. Flushed and replaced transmission fluid. Wiper blades. New taillight assemblies (2). New parking light assemblies (2). New left headlight. New air filter. New exhaust from the catalytic converter back (except the tailpipe, which was solid). New spark plug wires. New flame arrester screen. New radio - JVC w/CD and Aux Input, custom mounted, solidly and nicely fit, straight, with no gaps. New Infinity speakers in the doors, also custom mounted, solidly and nicely fit, straight, with no gaps. The door panels were not cut to mount the speakers. Front end alignment. Oil and filter are new this month, as well as a new water pump and extended life coolant. Tires have over 50% tread remaining, and are all wearing evenly; rotated tires. The car drives straight down the highway without pulling left or right and the steering wheel points straight ahead. The car starts quickly and runs and shifts smoothly and quietly. The car rides and handles pretty much like new. There are no rips, tears, or holes in the seats, door panels, or carpet. We are not smokers nor was the original owner. The body is smooth, straight, shiny and rust free, with the original paint, trim and pinstripes. Never wrecked, repaired or repainted. The glass has no cracks or chips. The wheels are from an 850 Volvo, mounted with the correct spacers to provide the original track width and ride height. 3 of them had some curb rash, but have been smoothed and touched up nicely. I have the original wheels and hubcaps and the radio if the buyer wants them. The analog clock on the dash works and keeps good time. The car passed Missouri inspection in January 2012. Known issues - There are a few dings in the body, but nothing at all major. There is one small and one smaller ding in the back of the trunk lid, where the previous owner may have backed into a garage door?? Just guessing. On the top surfaces of the car there are several very small but noticeable dings and a number of smaller ones that aren't noticeable unless you are looking for them. Probably hail (?), and all excellent candidates for paintless dent removal, but we never felt they were worth the trouble, but feel they should be noted. There is a ding just below the passenger mirror (can't imagine what happened there) and a 1" by 2" piece is missing from the right rear plastic bumper trim (ditto). The top of the dashboard has one crack from front to back (typical in 240s, apparently, and these can be repaired), plus a couple other short cracks around the center speaker grille. The map pocket on the driver's door has been replaced, but is not the correct shade of tan. The plastic map pocket on the passenger door has been cracked and repaired. This is a really nice car, with an amazing reputation for safety and a clean Carfax and clear title. I have tried to describe it the best I can, warts and all.
