Greetings to All!! imotors is quite pleased to offer Tom's 1981 RX-7.......possibly the nicest First Generation example Available anywhere! This is a one senior owned car since New back in 1981 and has Never, Ever, been in inclement weather(which of course includes rain!) RX-7 lovers everywhere get weak in the knees when one like this becomes available. A one owner beauty that was apparently treated like one of the family! Examples like this one are unheard of! Most have over 150 Thousand miles by now, and are still going strong. About six months ago, a "car guy" friend of mine tells me that a friend of His has an old Rx-7 that he wants to sell. The car is supposed to be like new and after 30 years of caretaking, He is ready to sell. Of course I say I am Quite interested, and to please have his friend contact me! I met Tom a few days later in a local parking lot that was convenient to us both. I looked at the car, and made an offer that seemed agreeable to us both. He said that he would get back to me and let me know. Several months went by when he finally did call and make arrangements for the purchase. I can certainly understand a bit of sentimentality and Hesitation after 30 Plus years of proud ownership!!! Tom purchased this 1981 RX-7 at Fowler Motors in Williamsport, Pa in 1981! It was brand spanking new at the time, and a sight to be seen. Tom tried to purchase a car here in Pittsburgh, but when he didn't like the way he was treated(I guess things were different in the eighties!), he drove the six hour distance to find the exact car that he lusted after!!! A white RX-7 "S" with the Rotary engine and a 5 speed Manual Transmission. No frills, no options, JUST air conditioning! What you see here today is the result of Tom's care and devotion to this car for the last THIRTY years!!!! It is Exactly the way that it was back in 1981 when new. The tires were replaced a few years back due to age. It is cosmetically and mechanically as original as anyone could hope for, And we ALL know how importatnt provenance is! I have every Pa safety inspection record from about 1986 to present. They are well preserved in clear plastic sheets to stay with this piece of history forever! The mileage is very well documented and only attests to the cars originality. Some years Tom used it more than others, BUT...it was driven every year to keep its vital juices flowing...Very importatnt to the Rotary engine! Tom told me that he immediately had a few replacement keys cut, so he could keep the originals new(Photo way at the end). He also told me that "Maybe" he used the wipers 4 times during his ownership! There are about 80 photographs below documenting the amazing original condition of this Gorgeous RX-7! This car is Exactly the way that I received it. All that I did was Wash it....everywhere except inside, which got a good vac! I used a heavy duty general purpose cleaner in a spray bottle and a soft brush under the hood. Hosed the dirt off. Same process as above for the under carriage with no brush. It was just covered with 30 years of Spring/Summer road dirt. It all just hosed right off to exposed the original primer and cosmoline. This car has ZERO rust.... Period. NONE. It was NEVER outside, and NEVER subjected to any elements(Yes, of course there is some surface/corrosion on suspension/exhaust parts etc.. You can tell by the condition of the 99% Original paint(the small area below the molding on the passengers front and rear fenders have some lacquer checking), that this Beauty was Always Garaged and Pampered!! Note the Crispness of the tailight lenses with no Dis-coloration. A true Testament to Fair weather exposure Only! It looks much better in Person, and is breathtakingly Original and Crisp!!! The Original Formula White Paint Just Glistens in the sun. Pretty much the same way it did 30 years ago!! Power antenna is inop, and stays up for easy listening. A few minor nicks and scratches from normal usage, but certainly nothing to deter from the Beauty and Originality of This 1 Owner Rx-7!! Note the reflection As nice as they come! Maybe 2 or 3 stone chips. I sure don't see many! No curb damage present Paint still Shines brightly! ! None of the typical wear here!! Originality at it's Best Notice how fresh and crisp....with no wear or age! Original headliner still present! No Smoke here!! A/C Blows Cold! No Cracks here!!!! All present and undisturbed since assembled in 1981! Notice how all of the gold cad plated bolts look like they were installed yesterday!!!!! Some slight remains of the factory cosmoline around the bolts! Truly a Pampered and Pedigreed Volvo RX-7 A Major concern, And very common question on nice older cars is "Has the timing belt been done yet"? Answer is...Doesn't have one!!
