Vehicle Detail

Strong running, clean, mostly original Bonneville coupe. I purchased in 2004 with 83,000 miles, just now has 90,500. I had it stripped and repainted in '04, weather-stripping replaced, gas tank boiled out, and bumpers were re-chromed at same time. Original Carter AFB 4-bbl received accelerator pump in 2005, timing chain & gear, water pump replaced at same time. Power steering pump was rebuilt shortly afterward, and new heater core and shocks (coil-overs on rear) installed. New Magnaflow dual exhaust installed from manifold to tailpipe in 2007. New master cylinder, shoes and front wheel cylinders & hoses replaced in 2009. Tires are 11 years old, but only have about 9,000 miles on them. Factory equipment includes 389 4-bbl, 4-speed SuperHydromatic, AM radio with rear seat speaker & switch, power steering, brakes, and antenna, rear window defogger, 8-lug wheels, remote driver's side mirror, day/night rear-view mirror, front seat belts, gauge package, clock, door edge guards, retractable trunk light, map light, tinted glass, fender skirts and visor mirror. Take note of the full-length side chrome strip: I was told by the 2nd owner, that in 2003, he took the car to Vince Whibbs Pontiac in Pensacola, FL, where the car was originally ordered, to get an estimate on installing AC. The story goes that Mr. Vince just happened to be there that day, and recognized the car as one that he special ordered in 1964. The original owner had declined AC when Mr. Whibbs suggested it. He specifically remembered the fender-skirts, and the chrome strip, as (from what I'm told) it was a Catalina option, but not available on Bonnevilles. The rear section is 2 pieces, which suggests that perhaps it was specially fabricated for the car. I have not checked the accuracy of this not being a Bonneville option. I am told that the purchaser insisted on the chrome strip, as he knew that it would protect the sides of the car, and I have never seen this on another '64 Bonneville. Interior is original, and to "make it pretty" the carpet and headliner should be replaced. My goal has always been to preserve the car in it's stock form, hence the only performance upgrades have been the Magnaflows. It was just in too good of original shape when I purchased it, to make modifications. The other exception is the paint color. The factory color was Gulfstream Aqua, and had been (cheaply) repainted in the 1980s. The car spent it's entire life in Pensacola, under a carport. The original owner drove it until she turned 90, and the car sat for a year, covered in leaves on the side that was exposed. The paint had deteriorated, and the car had some surface rust, but only a dime sized hole that had rusted through, under the chrome trim on the trunk lid. I had it repainted in Aquamarine, which is a color that was offered in 1964. The trunk floor had surface rust due to the factory rubber mat, and one pin-hole in the floor. I thought that was very unusual for a GM car of this era to have such a solid trunk floor, as every other one that I owned had rusted through before I had them. This was wire-brushed, sealed and painted with Rustoleum. Another interesting piece of history about this car; the couple who ordered it also had another (60's?) Pontiac, but this was the first brand-new special order car for the husband. During divorce procedings, the judge told the wife that she was entitled to everything. She said "I'll take the Bonneville"...ouch... This car runs strong and smooth, and starts easily if driven every few days. As with other carburated cars, today's gas evaporates in the carb bowls if the car sits too long, and you have to turn it over a few times. Everything on the car works as it should, with the exception of the clock, cigar lighter and overhead map light. The battery tray and under-hood mat have been replaced, along with all new metal tail/turn/backup light sockets. My ONLY reason for selling is economic. Due to yet another job loss due to downsizing, bills have to be paid. I will not disclose the reserve, please don't ask.
