For your consideration is my 1982 Rabbit Diesel Truck, AKA Caddy. This truck is totally rust free. An elderly gentleman owned this truck and was a diesel fanatic. He rebuilt the engine, and started on the brakes then passed away. I bought the truck from his son who inherited it, and drove it briefly. I was told the engine has about 3k miles since the rebuild. I have no way to verify, but given the way it starts and runs I have no reason to doubt this. The truck has the fast glow relay and glow plugs. This truck drives like a dream. With the overdrive 4th (which is actually taller than 5th on the 5 speeds) it cruises 65-70 with no problem. It steers straight and you can let go of the wheel with no lane drift. It drives with typical VW feel. It’s no red light rocket but we all know that. The tires are round, well balanced and not dry rotted, but will need to be replaced in about 10k miles or so. The paint is new. The paint job is not perfect but still very nice. The color is a Saturn Fusion Orange, and the trucks original color was gold. The tailgate works. It is not the prettiest but works fine. I am selling this truck for a couple of reasons. I have been told I have too many projects, and it doesn’t haul 12 foot length of material which I use for my business. The Good New Items: Rack and pinion with inner tie rods. Outer tie rods Ball joints Control arm bushings Struts/shocks front and rear by Sachs Power steering pump Power steering hose All hoses. Radiator, bypass, heater etc. Battery Cables Front brakes Rear brake cylinders Parking brake cables Paint Grill Trim clips Headliner Rear cab pad (inside) Carpet Rear window slider latch And others I am sure I have forgotten by my Visa card has not Camper shell included Bed liner included Rabbit Diesel parts car included. The bad Like any 30 year old vehicle there are still things that need addressing….they are: Horn doesn’t work. A/C does not work. I will include parts to fix. Heater fan has a rodent nest in it. The rodents are gone by the fan makes noise. The radio is gone. I have no clue as to the speakers, but would consider them shot. Driver’s seat is ripped. Structurally it is fine and has a cheap cover on it. Driver’s side door check does not work. Passenger side door check is tight, but works. Right mirror is brand new but flops around. Thanks to China and a “recycled” bug place in Mi. Right vent window is inoperative and siliconed shut. Wipers work but don’t park automatically. Overall This is a great truck. We all know they get killer fuel mileage. Please feel free to contact me with questions not addressed here. If you would like to test drive I would welcome that.
