BEFORE WE BEGIN: THE RESERVE PRICE ON THE RANCHERO GT WILL NOT BE DISCLOSED, SO PLEASE DO NOT ASK. This car is being relisted as the winning bidder sent an email the following morning saying he could not complete the transaction. Up for bid is this very rare and unusual 1972 Ranchero GT. This Ranchero is loaded with all the right equipment. It is an original Q-Code 351 "Cobra Jet" 4-Barrel V8 with a 4-Speed Manual Transmission with Hurst Shifter. In 1972, the 351 CJ was the most powerful engine available. 1972 Ford Torino's and Ranchero's had a unique "fish" style front grille/bumper design which was a one-year only design and is one of the best looking body styles ever designed by Ford. This Ranchero looks very sharp with the hood scoop, Magnum 500 wheels, white-letter tires, orange/black side stripes and the black vinyl top. This particular Ranchero was shipped to the San Jose Ordering District (DSO 72) and delivered to Rex Smith Ford in Rio Vista, CA (East San Francisco Bay Area) and as far as we can tell, it has remained in California it's entire life. As shown in the Marti Report in the photographs below this Ranchero was ordered with the 351 Q-Code Cobra Jet V8, 4-speed manual transmission, power steering, power disc brakes, AM/FM Stereo Radio. Decoding the body VIN tag, it shows the following: 2: 1972 A: Built at Atlanta 48: Ranchero GT Q: 351-4V CJ Engine 167317: Production Sequence BODY: 97R (Ranchero GT) COLOR: 9A (White Paint, Ford #1619-A) TRIM: FA (Black Vinyl Bench Seat) TRANS: 5 (3.25 Conventional Rear Axle) AXLE: 9 (Four-Speed Manual Transmission) DSO: 72 (San Jose Ordering District) Since acquiring the Ranchero, we've restored it and done the following: Repainted in original Ford white in Base Coat/Clear Coat and then color sanded and polishedNEW Black Vinyl Top installed with new top moldingsNEW WindshieldNEW Orange/Black Stripe Kit InstalledNEW CarpetingNEW Headliner and Sun VisorsNEW Dash Cap installedNOS Shifter Boot installedNEW Heater CoreNEW Tail Pipes and Exhaust Tips Prior to us acquiring the Ranchero, the previous owner used it as a driver. He drove this Ranchero up and down the state and put several thousand miles on it. He located a rebuilt correct 351 4V block and replaced the tired 351 CJ that was in the car. We still have the original block which goes with the Ranchero. The casting numbers on the original block are: D2AE-CA 1L20. The CJ heads were installed on the new motor and it runs excellent. The casting numbers on the replacement block currently in the Ranchero are: D2AE-CA 3E17. The 351 4V engine currently in the car has the correct "4" stamped into the corners of the valley near the valve covers. Everything seems to work great on the Ranchero. All the gauges function properly, the AM/FM stereo works great and all power accessories work fine. It still retains the spare tire and jack assembly as well. Please note that the current odometer reading of 48,543 is what is shown. We have no way of knowing if it's turned over. We've driven this Ranchero occasionally since we acquired it and it's a lot of fun to drive. The 351 has plenty of power and the 4-speed makes this Ranchero even better.
