The result was the Model A, a wonderful blend of rugged, do-anything mechanicals with a wide variety of body styles that would suit almost any occasion, from town cars to heavy-duty trucks. Fitting somewhere in the middle is the lovely wood-bodied station wagon, a handsomely designed passenger car built with the same eye towards practicality as all the Ford commercial vehicles. 1931 was the lowest production year for wagons (except for 1928, which had 5 prototypes built), with only 2848 being built. This fully restored 1931 Model A woody is a genuine wagon, not a rebody, and was built in early 1931. It has been comprehensively restored by a noted restorer to MARC (Model A Restorer’s Club) specifications, and is one of the most accurate and well-detailed woody wagons available anywhere. The body features new wood (the original wood is included with the car) by noted expert John Kirst, who used lumber felled from the same old-growth forest Ford used in 1931, so the match is exact. The hardware used throughout is original 1931 Ford equipment, including most of the nuts, bolts, and screws. Finished in 2003, it remains in excellent condition throughout, with virtually zero wear on the wooden body panels, which were finished using a soft satin urethane instead of the bright, shiny spar varnish used by Ford, giving it a vintage look without the maintenance. Note details like the front door hinges, which are ultra-rare originals and not modern piano hinges as seen on so many other woodies, and the cowl is a correct multi-piece original. Finished in Manila Brown, which was the only choice in 1931, the paint shows an excellent shine without the harsh finish of modern 2-stage urethane, and there’s virtually zero wear since the car was completed. All the chrome and stainless components were completely restored, including the original TwoLite headlamps and an original quail hood ornament. Inside, black leatherette (which is Ford-speak for vinyl) seats feature original frames with new seat covers that match the originals in fit and specification. The front bench sits atop a wood pedestal that has been finished, like the floor boards, in correct black stain which was how Ford did it on the assembly line. The station wagon’s dash/gas tank was not pinstriped by the factory, but did feature the standard stainless steel instrument panel and gauges, all of which are fully functional in this car. Rubber floor mats front and rear were standard equipment for ease of maintenance, and this car retains all three rows of seats. All the door hardware and latches are original, although the screws securing the inner door panels are stainless for long-lasting beauty (also note that every screw head is perfectly aligned, the sign of a meticulous restorer). All four doors open and close easily with no binding, and for a wooden car, this one is surprisingly free of squeaks and rattles. New side curtains have been recently fitted at a cost of over $800, and are stored in the original box under the rear section of the body. Ford’s reliable and torquey flathead four cylinder engine has been restored to original specifications throughout, without any of the upgrades that many restorers seem to feel are necessary. With strict attention to authenticity, this car runs like new thanks to a correct Zenith carburetor and an original style ignition system complete with flat copper plug leads. Even the water pump is an original style spinning a 2-blade fan, and the car runs all day at proper temperatures. There’s also a Ford Powerhouse generator, which has been fully restored, as well as a rebuilt starter that spins the engine with vigor. Of note, this is the car’s original engine, with numbers that match those stamped on the frame rail. Underneath, the chassis has been fully restored and rebuilt, but not over-restored. Finishes are correct, including more black stain on the floor boards, as Ford did it more than 80 years ago. The only noteworthy upgrade is a high-speed 3.54 ring and pinion, which allows this wagon to comfortably cruise all day at 55 MPH without sacrificing around-town performance. The braking system has been rebuilt and delivers sure, confident stops. Other details include a correct stop light switch, and the proper tailpipe extension, which prevents the interior from filling with exhaust fumes, a detail many woody restorers overlook. Wagons were available with the customer’s choice of wheel colors, with those on this car restored in Apple Green and wearing new Firestone blackwall tires. Fully sorted, this has to be one of the best-driving Model As available anywhere. The restoration was done to show standards, and the owner is a professional antique car mechanic whose cars are all maintained in top driving condition. Of note, the original body is included with the sale, although it is sadly probably only good for patterns at this point. Reasonably priced and ready to drive and tour this summer, this is an outstanding example of one of the more popular and practical Model A body styles. When the time finally came to replace the venerable Model T, Henry Ford’s insistence on simplicity and reliability was tempered by Edsel’s sense of style and proportion.

Contact us or hit the Buy It Now! button. We can be reached at Sales@VintageMotorCarsUSA.com or by phone at 216-849-5263.
Fee and Tax Information: The buyer is responsible for all local state, county, and city tax fees, as well as title and registration fees and any other costs that may apply.

Vintage Motor Cars began when two hobbyists decided to help their fellow auto enthusiasts market their collector vehicles. Our company is built on the idea that a quality car presented honestly and fairly will always find a new home. Today we sell cars all over the world, and strive to locate special vehicles with collector appeal, not simply used cars. We welcome the opportunity to speak with you about any of our vehicles—we'll tell you everything we know, and we won't waste your time. Smart collectors know there's no such thing as a perfect car, so feel free to contact us with questions and comments.
If you have a special car that you would like to market, Vintage Motor Cars can put it in front of real buyers. We have an extensive network of clients who are always looking for their next special vehicle. We also accept interesting, high-quality trades and can help with financing. Please contact us for more information on any of our programs.
Feel free to contact us at any time using Sales@VintageMotorCarsUSA.com or by phone at 216-849-5263.
Our name on eBay is new, but we are long-time eBay users. If you have concerns about our current feedback, please contact us and we'll be happy to discuss it.
This auction is a legally binding contract to buy this vehicle. All vehicles are sold as-is unless otherwise specified. I have done my best to accurately describe this vehicle. It is up to the buyer to come see and further inspect the car before the end of the auction.-->
