Vehicle Detail

This is 1965 Buick Skylark GS Post Coupe or Thin Pillar Coupe as Buick called these Cool 2 Door Post Gran Sports! This 1965 Skylark GS Post Coupe is 1 of just 405 Produced for the 1965 Model Year with the 401 cubic inch 325 Horsepower High Performance engine and the 3 Speed Floor Shifted Manual Transmission. This car runs well and drives just fine, stops and steers nicely and has no known mechanical issues. Its just a good running & driving car! This 1965 Skylark GS sat for many years in its home State of Oregon before it had the work done to bring it back to good overall operating condition. I have driven this Cool Skylark GS Coupe around my area and have taken it on a road-trip up to see some friends who live about 40 miles away and it ran great with no problems. This 1965 Skylark GS had quite a bit of work done since its long term storage and it runs and drives quite nicely and everything works as it should outside of the AM Radio which I believe to need a new speaker and the horn is not working at this time.... otherwise everything works just as Buick intended when this car was built back in the 4th week of February 1965. The Original Cowl Tag shows the Production Date of "2D" or the 4th week of February 1965 which makes this a very early 1965 Buick Skylark Gran Sport as they were first introduced in late December of 1964 or early January of 1965 according to many well known Buick sources. This is a very early 1965 Skylark GS Coupe and its the Real Deal from front to back with its correct Boxed Frame, Drivers Side Mounted Battery Box, 401 Nailhead High Performance Engine and Original Heavy Duty 3 Speed Manual Transmission. The Body on this 1965 Buick Skylark GS is very nice and shows no signs of any accident damage or previous rust repair. This is a rustfree car as it spent its life in the dry State of Oregon and at least 27 years of its life were spent in storage which is likely the biggest reason for the outstanding original condition of the body as a whole. The car shows no signs of collision damage and the undercarriage is as dry and clean as any car of this era that your likely to ever see. The Floor Pans are excellent and very dry and there is very little undercoating anywhere on this car. I cleaned a couple of spots on the floor pans with a little soap and water and simply wiped them down to reveal the factory primer on the floors. Its amazing to see such a nice solid undercarriage on a 47 year old car and especially to guys like me who have spent our lives looking at crusty nasty undercarriages on cars from the East Coast. The Frame and underside of this car are incredibly nice and as a whole as solid as the day the car was built. I probably should not have used the word rustfree as the car did have a few very small spots of rust on the drivers side front floor pan but they were quite minor and were repaired properly. I had a New complete drivers side front floor pan but decided that it was ridiculous to replace the entire floor pan for a couple of very small rust spots so I had patches cut from the new floor pan and had them welded in nicely to retain as much of the original sheet metal as possible. The floors look great from the inside under the new carpeting as well as on the underside. The Correct GS only Boxed Frame is Rustfree and is as solid as the day it was made with absolutely no problems and is nice and clean from front to rear. The Rear Body Mounts are excellent with no rust issues and the Trunk is dry and solid with absolutely no rust issues ever. The Radiator Core Support is nice and solid with no rust issues and the Battery Tray and Inner Fenders are nice and free of any rust or damage. The Body on this car is excellent as a whole and it would be difficult to find a more solid original unrestored 1965 Buick Skylark GS Post Coupe. The Paint on the car is at least 25 years old and likely older and was a cheap scuff and shoot paint job. The paint looks nice in the pictures and even at 20 feet it doesnt look bad but as you get closer you can see that it was a cheap paint job. There are various nicks, small dings and scratches but there are no signs of any collision damage or any previous rust repair. Keep in mind that the car has an exceptionally solid body and shows no signs of any rust repair or rust damage. The car has a nice shine but its an old cheap paint job and will need to be redone at some point. The paint on the car now is actually much lighter than the Original Blue that this GS left the factory with.... the Original color is Code "EE" Midnight Blue as you can see on the Cowl Tag and the Midnight Blue is a Nice Dark Blue that almost looks Black..... great Original color Combination of the Midnight Blue on the Two-Tone Lighter Blue Interior! This is a Good solid Original 1965 Buick Skylark GS 2 Door Post or Thin Pillar Coupe as Buick called them and its about as Rare as they get for 1965 Buick Gran Sports with just 405 of these Skylark GS Post Coupes Produced with the 3 Speed Manual Transmission. The Body is very nice and it would be an easy car to repaint if you decided to go that route as some point. There are no rust repairs to make and the car has an incredibly solid Original undercarriage with Nice Original Floor Pans and an amazing Original Rustfree Boxed Frame. The Boxed Frame was found on other GM Midsize Muscle cars but only in the Convertible Models. The 1965 Buick Skylark GS Coupe was the only GM midsize Muscle car to use the full boxed Frame in the Coupe Models. This is just another cool and interesting thing that is unique to the early Buick Skylark GS Models. I recently spoke with a gentleman who is well versed in the early Buick Skylark GS Models and he told me that Buick actually lost money on all of the 1965-1966 Buick GS Models because of all of the Special parts that were required for this particular model and with their low production figures GM lost money on the sale of each and every 1965 & 1966 Skylark Gran Sport sold! Engine: The original engine was blown up around 27 years ago and Replacement engine was rebuilt and installed. The current engine is a 401 Buick Nailhead that was rebuilt and has about 15000 Miles since the rebuild. The engine was bored .020 oversize with New Pistons and the entire Rotating Assembly was Balanced and Blue-Printed for exact tolerances. The Cam is a New Stock Buick Cam. The engine pulls 18" of Vacuum at idle and crisp Throttle Repsonse. The Oil Pressure is at 50 PSI when cold and holds around 40 PSI at Idle after its wamred up. The engine runs very well and makes a lot of torque which is something that you dont forget after years of driving Mopars and various Ford High Performance cars. These Buick Nailheads are amazing engines that make loads of torque and plenty of hosepower. The Radiator was recored and the engine runs at 185-190 degrees even in 90 degree weather. The Clutch and Release Bearing were replaced at the time of the engine rebuild and work well with no problems. The current Carburetor on the engine is an Edelbrock 750 cfm with electric choke which seems to work quite well with this engine although I have a "J4" or September of 1964 Carter AFB Carburetor from another 1965 Buick Skylark GS that will go with the car. This AFB is in need of a rebuild but its a good original 1965 Skylark GS Carburetor that will make a nice addition to this 1965 Skylark GS Post Coupe. This car runs really strong and makes plenty of power. This is an interesting car with the 401 High Performance Nailhead and the Rare Factory 3 Speed Transmission as it makes loads of Torque and Power quickly and will surprise you if you get into it while cruising at low speeds. This engine makes some nice power and will bust the tires loose in first or second gear if you get into the throttle and open the secondaries while cruising at 20-25 miles per hour. Its just a good strong running engine that might surprise those of you who are not familiar with the serious low end torque of the Buick 401 Nailhead engines. The Transmission in this 1965 Buick Skylark GS Coupe is the Original Dearborn Heavy Duty Top Loader 3 Speed Manual Transmission which is said to be one of the strongest 3 Speed Manual Transmissions to ever find its way into a factory built General Motors car. These Transmissions were actually built by Ford for General Motors as GM contracted Ford to build these Transmissions for use in these early Buick GS Models. I believe they were used in 1965 and 1966 only. The Transmission is the Original and in excellent condition. It is nice and clean and was opened up and checked out and found to be in excellent condition. The Transmission still has what appears to be its Original ID Tag attached to the side of the Transmission housing. This Transmission shifts just fine through all of the gears with no problems and the Clutch is said to have been replaced when the engine was rebuilt. The Clutch works fine and there are no issues with slipping, grinding or the transmission popping out of gear. Its just a really good Original working Factory Installed Heavy Duty 3 Speed Manual Transmission with its Original Chrome Shifter. The shifter works just fine although the Chrome on the shifter handle is showing a little age...not terrible but its something that you might want to have rechromed at some point if this bothers you. The Rear is the Original and said to have its Original 3.36 gears and the Rear has New wheel bearings and seals and makes no unusual noises.... seems to be just fine. The Driveshaft is the Original One Piece unit and is in good condition with no problems. The Brakes are fine all around and the car stops just fine with no issues. The Electrical components are in Good working condition from the Headlights, High Beams & Low Beams, Turn Signals, Parking Lights, Brake Lights, Speedometer and Odometer all work. The Gas Gauge works just fine. The Windshield Wipers work fine and the Heater/Defroster Blower works fine as well and even the little bulbs that light up the heater controls work as they should when you have the headlights on in the evening. The Interior Lights work fine from the Dash Lights which are nice and Bright to the Dome Light and even the under dash lights work when you open the doors to quickly brighten the interior. The Radio does not seem to be working but I believe it might just need a new speaker although I have not checked it out to be sure. The Original Light over the License Plate even works as it should. The only things that do not work as they should are the horn and the radio which Im sure are easy fixes. There are a Trio of old School Stewart Warner Gauges Mounted under the Dash in a Nice Chrome Gauge Panel and they are Oil Pressure, Water Temperature and Ampheres which are nice to help keep an eye on your engines vitals. There is also a Cool 1965 Vintage Stewart Warner Tachometer mounted on the Steering Column which is connected to its Original Sending Unit which is mounted under the Hood on the Firewall and the Tachometer works just fine although the Tach could stand to be recalibrated as it works but doesnt seem to be accurate. Its just really cool to have the 1965 Dated S&W Tach in the car as its a piece that someone would have installed in their new 1965 Buick Skylark GS back in the day. I removed the Chrome Mounting Cup and the Tach is actually dated 1965!!! How cool is that??? I love this kind of stuff! Thats about it for the electrical components as far as I can tell but feel free to ask any questions that you might have as I could have missed something. The Interior is complete and retains most of its Original components although the 25+ years in storage was not the best thing for the original interior. When I got the car the previous owner had already removed the carpeting which was a good thing as far as I was concerned because I was able to see just how nice and solid the original floor pans were. This worked out perfectly as I had the few small spots on the drivers side floor pan properly repaired with patches that were welded in nicely before I installed the new carpeting. The new carpet set fit like a glove and looks great as you'll see in the pictures. The Original Bucket seats were repaired at some point before the car was put into storage back in the mid 80's and when the factory Two-Tone Blue Bucket seats were repaired, they installed several new vinyl inserts which were not done in the correct colors. This was not a big deal as far as I was concerned as I planned on having new foam cushions installed as well as new Correct Bucket Seats Covers as they are available and are relatively inexpensive. I did not get around to having the seats recovered but I did take the time to remove the original Bucket Seats and i carefully removed the Original Chrome Seat Trim thats found on the sides of each bucket seat. I polished the original chrome seat trim up and the chrome came out looking very nice... not new but very nice for original 47 year old Chrome Seat Trim. I then purchased a New seat dye product that a friend of mine had suggested along with the correct vinyl cleaning product and the seat dye preparation spray that is needed before you dye the vinyl. I figured that this might work for awhile until I could afford to purchase the new seat covers for the car so the process began to dye the slightly worn and tired front Bucket Seat Covers. When I finished with the seats, they actually look much better than they did before the process but they are far from perfect although they will serve you just fine until your able to have the seats recovered with the beautiful new Two-Tone Blue reproduction seat covers which are readily available. The Original Rear Seat cover has a couple of seams that have opened from age and although the Rear Seat doesnt look bad, it too will eventually need to be recovered. The Rear Seat Covers for the 2 Door Post cars are not readily available but the correct covers for the 1965 Skylark GS 2 Door Hardtop Models and the 1965 Skylark GS Convertible models are quite easy to get in reproduction. I actually had a set of these Two-Tone Blue Seat Covers made for my other 1965 Skylark GS 2 Door Thin Pillar Coupe / 1965 Skylark GS 2 Door Post car and they came out beautifully. If your not familiar with the 1965 Buick Skylark GS Post or Thin Pillar Coupe Models then your in for an interesting learning experience as the interiors in these post cars are very different than the interiors of the 1965 Skylark GS 2 Door Hardtops and 1965 Skylark GS Convertibles. The 1965 Skylark Post cars use the less expensive 1965 Buick Special interior panels such as the Door Panels which are a much more simple design than the GS 2 Door Hardtops and GS Convertibles. The 1965 Skylark GS Post cars use the 1965 Special Door Panels and even the emblems on the Door Panels of the GS Post cars are the simple Round Tri-Shield design whereas the GS Hardtops & Convertibles use the Rectangular Skylark emblem with the Skylark Bird Design and the Door Panels on the GS Hardtops are a little fancier than those found in the 1965 GS Post cars..... even the Armrest and the interior Door Handles are unique to the 1965 Buick Skylark GS 2 Door Post cars as they were the same as those found on the less expensive 1965 Buick Special 2 Door Sedan Models. The 1965 Buick Skylark GS 2 Door Post / Thin Pillared Coupes are truly unique Muscle cars in so many ways.... its just really cool stuff like this that makes these Rare 2 Door Post cars stand apart from the others! Now back to the interior... The Original Door Panels are in decent Original condition and are absolutely nice enough for any driver although the vinyl at the bottoms will need a little clean-up and some attention... no big deal. The Dash Pad has some cracks but it still has a very original look and is by no means offensive. The car comes with a Brand New Reproduction Rear Package Tray in the correct Light Blue. The Headliner was wiped out from being in storage for all of those years and so it was carefully trimmed out to keep all of the original Bows, Windlacing and the Original Sail Panels intact. The Instrument Cluster is in Good original condition but not perfect by any means and you will get another Nice used Instrument Cluster with the car as well as some other dash pieces although the Dash is 100% complete and fully functional. The interior Chrome is in Nice shape and cleaned up beautifully. The Rear View Mirror is in Nice condition as are the Wing Window Locks and all of the Window Cranks/Handles and interior Door Handles are in Nice Original Condition. As a whole the interior has seen better days but its all there and functional and by no means completely offensive. This is just a Nice Solid Real Deal Original 1965 Buick Skylark GS 2 Door Post car and a Rare one at that with just 405 Original 3 Speed Manual Transmission cars Produced. The Trim and Chrome on this car is very Nice Original. Besides the fact that this car has a wonderful rustfree body, the Trim is very nice all around. The Original Grill is quite Nice with very little pitting and would be Nice enough for all but the absolute best of show cars... just a really Nice Clean Original Grill with very Nice Chrome! The Original Headlight Bezels are also very Nice with Beautiful Original Chrome. The Original Hood Ornament is a very Nice Original with beautiful original Chrome and again nice enough for any car except for the very best of show cars. The Original Fender Mounted GS Vent style Trim which are GS specific are in really Nice Original condition with no issues...nice straight clean and free of any damage! The Original Taillight Assemblies are in Nice Original condition with some light pitting but really nice compared to most that I have seen over the years. They look very nice and I think you'll be happy with them and if you wanted to have them rechromed then you certainly could but they are nice originals and I wouldnt touch them unless you were going the show car route. The Original Round Chrome Ornament in the Middle of the Taillights with the Tri-Shields is also very Nice with real clean Original Chrome. The exterior Door Handles are very nice with clean Original Shiney Chrome... very nice originals! The Bumpers on this 1965 Skylark GS are still quite Nice with very good Original Chrome. They still have a great shine and are overall really nice Originals. There are a couple of very minor dings but otherwise just real nice Original Chrome... not flawless but very Good Originals! The Original Rocker Moldings are in very Good Original condition and look great.... again not flawless but really nice Originals for sure!!! All of the Original "Gran Sport" emblems are in Nice Original condition and certainly do not need to be replaced unless your going for the full on show car restoration. The Original Trunk Mounted Gran Sport emblem looks nice as do the Roof Pillar Gran Sport emblems and the Original Grill emblem is another interesting thing as the very early 1965 Skylark GS models used a completely different and smaller Gran Sport emblem. It is said that this particular car was built right around the time that the Newer Style "Gran Sport" Grill emblems were installed on these cars. Keep in mind that the 1965 Buick Skylark GS Models were a late arrival to the Buick Line as they did not start producing these Skylark Gran Sport's until sometime in late December of 1964 or early January of 1965. I believe the earliest known 1965 Buick Skylark Gran Sport models were built in the last week of December 1964 or the first week of January 1965. These cars were definitely late arrivals to the GM Muscle car line and some of the early Original Buick Skylark Literature doesnt even show the 1965 Skylark GS as they didnt come to be until late in the model year as most models started production in August of 1964..... go figure! Anyway.... the Original Trim on this car is very Nice Original overall. It could use a better drivers side door mounted Mirror as the Original is tired and the Rear Window Trim has a couple of dings which Im guessing was done when the car was last painted sometime in the early 80's or earlier. This Trim is not bad by any means but it does have a couple of little dings. The engine compartment has a Nice clean look and appears fairly Original overall. The engine is nice and clean and the car is equipped with Power Steering which was added by a previous owner. I wish he would have left the Manual Steering as this would represent a real Muscle car in my opinion....absolutely no power options.... just straight up Horsepower with nothing more than the bucket seats and a Clutch Pedal and a Shifter on the Floor Thats the way that I like my Muscle cars. This car is a Back-Up Light or Reverse Light Delete car in case I didnt mention that earlier. This is another cool thing about this car in my opinion. I like my Muscle cars as basic as possible with as few options as possible... all engine and a gearbox and a good set of gears out back. Dont get me wrong, I can appreciate a well optioned Muscle car and a 1965 Buick Skylark GS Post car thats loaded with options has to be a real Rarity so I appreciate them all. Its just my personal preference that my cars have nothing but a lot of motor and a clutch pedal!!!!! This 1965 Buick Skylark GS 2 Door Post has a very Strong Running 401 Nailhead with the correct Original Air Cleaner and that Beast of a Dearborn 3 Speed Toploader Manual Tranmission and it works really well together. This car is a real beast from light to light or for tooling around town. This car really gets up and goes and for those of you who are familiar with these cars and especially with a 3 Speed Manual Transmission then you can appreciate what Im trying to say here. This car just outright goes! I spoke with a guy who is a Buick Nailhead enthusiast .... I would have said expert but Im not so sure that he would have wanted me to call him an expert.... anyway... He knows these cars well and told me that the 1965 Skylark GS equipped with the 3 Speed Dearborn Heavy Duty Toploader Transmission would blow away the same 1965 Buick Skylark GS with the 4 Speed Borg Warner Transmission in the 1/4 mile. This guy is the man when it comes to Buick's and especially Buick's equipped with the Nailhead engines and he has loads of experience with these cars. Anyway... I own a 4 Speed version of the same car... another 1965 Buick Skylark GS 2 Door Post car with the 401 and a factory 4 Speed and the 3 Speed car seems to run so much harder than the 4 speed car. This 1965 Skylark GS Coupe is a little screamer for sure.... an absolute blast to drive around town! The 1965 Buick Skylark GS 2 Door Post is shown with a set of Vintage Cragar S/S Wheels although I have a set of the Correct Original Painted Steel Wheels with the Original Dog Dish Style Hubcaps. The car will be sold with the Steel Wheels and Dog Dish Hubcaps and Radial Tires although I would consider letting the car go with both sets of Wheels for another $500 above the final sale price. I know what it cost me to put together the set of Vintage Cragar S/S wheels and the Vintage Tires that are on the car and it was far more than $500 but I like the car with the Cragar S/S Wheels and I like it with the Painted Steel Wheels and Dog Dish Hubcaps so its entirely up to you. You can let me know whether you would like the Cragar S/S Wheels with the Vintage Tires along with the Painted Steelies and Dog Dish Caps with the Radials or your welcome to take the car with just the Original Steel Wheels with Dog Dish Caps and Radials. I love the Vintage Day 2 Hot Rod look with the Cragar S/S Wheels and the 1965 Vintage Stewart Warner Chrome Column Mounted Tachometer along with the Vintage S&W Gauges under the Dash. This is a really cool look and its exactly as many of us did back in the Day.... we bought a set of New Mag Wheels and Installed them on our cars and then we ran out to the Speed Shop and purchased either a New Sun Tach or a Stewart Warner Tach and these things were on and in our cars within hours of their purchase! Through the years I have enjoyed many Cool cars and at different times in my life I wanted my cars to be restored completely Stock as Delivered New and as Ive grown older Ive regressed into that same 18 year old kid that loved his Muscle car and wanted it to look bad ass! I appreciate these cars no matter what type of look they have but I seem to like the Day 2 look more these days than ever before or at least as much as I did when I was that 18 year kid. These old cars are meant to be enjoyed so I add things that I like... things that I think are cool just as I did back in the 70's. These cars were Cool then and they are even Cooler Now!!!! Check out the many pictures below and you will see what I mean.... even if your not into Buick's, you have to appreciate the cool lines on these cars. We have all seen the 1965 GTO 2 Door Post cars and the 1965 Olds 442 Holiday Coupe's and there are plenty of cool old 65 Chevelle, Malibu or Deluxe 300 2 Door Sedans although few Performance models but these 1965 Buick Skylark Gran Sport Thin Pillar Coupe's are something that you just done see ..... I dont remember seeing many of these cars back in the day so seeing one these days is a real treat! Let me wrap this up as Ive already rambled on long enough. This is an exceptionally solid 1965 Buick Skylark GS 2 Door Post car with the 401 cubic inch High Performance engine and the Rare Factory Installed Dearborn Heavy Duty 3 Speed Toploader Manual Transmission. This 1965 Skylark GS Post car is a rare one with just 405 of these cars built with the 3 Speed Manual Transmission. You can bet that there are very few left these days and I have only heard of 2 others that are currently known to exist although Im sure there are others out there. Either way, this is a Rare car with a Gorgeous Origional Color Combination and will make for one super cool driver or an easy restoration. This is a very interesting car and a very unusual car from the color combination and lack of options to its 3 speed manual transmission.... just a very cool car! I guess Ive said just about all there is to say about this car so please be sure to ask any questions before bidding. There are no rust problems with this car. The Undercarriage is as solid as they come with absolutely no problems. The only rust that was found on this car was on the drivers side front floor pan and they were a couple of small areas and the area around these small holes was as solid and firm as could be. I had a local bodyman take a new reproduction floor pan and instead of replacing the entire floor pan, I had him cut out the small pieces from the New Floor Pan and weld them cleaning to the Original Floor Pan. This was done to keep as much original sheet metal on the car as absolutely possible and I am a strong believer in keeping a car as original as possible and especially when it comes to sheet metal. I would not have purchased this car if it were not for the exceptionally solid body and rustfree frame along with the nice Original Chrome and Trim... Nice Original pieces on this car guys.... much better than most with a very Nice Original Grill, Nice Original Headlight Bezels, Good Taillight Trim although not perfect,,,they are better than most Originals that Ive seen over the years.... The Round Trishield Chrome Emblem found between the Taillights is very nice Original, Porta-Vent GS ONLY Fender Trim is Nice, Rocker Moldings, Nice Original Hood Ornament, Nice Original Chrome Skylark Birds on the Fenders, Beautiful Original Door Handles and Fairly Nice Original Bumpers that show better than average Chrome for Originals and are very Nice Driver quality pieces. Needless to say, it is difficult to find one of these cars with nice Original Trim and even more difficult to find one with a nice Original Rustfree Body. The interior will need new seat covers, headliner but the New Carpets have been installed and a New Rear Package Tray will go with the car. The Headliner still has all of the bows in place and all of the Original windlacing along with the Original Sail Panels and the Original Interior Dome Light works just fine when you open the Door or use the Headlight Dimmer Switch ... either way, the Interior Dome Light works perfectly. The Drivers side Door Lock is kind of a pain in the butt as it needs to be adjusted. The Door Closes beautifully but you need to close it just right because the little Lock assembly with the gears or teeth that move around when you open or close the door is not properlu adjusted. Its one of those stupid little things that I just didnt get around to but rest assured it is not a problem that will require anything more than a little bit of time and lately it seems that time is the thing that I have the least of. Im adding pictures of the Floor Pans with a simple wipe down and you will see the Black Factory Primer in some areas but most importantly, you will see that they are awesome original rustfree floor pans with no serious corrosion... just some flash rust from areas that didnt receive much factory primer or paint if any at all....... just really nice oriinal floors, supports, braces and awesome boxed frame. I hope these pictures help as I got under the car and wiped down some of the floor areas with a little soap and water to reveal beautiful original sheet metal with the factory Black primer and even some factory Dark Blue paint close to the frame area by the rockers...... just nice original floors on an undercarriage that will clean up beautifully with a few hours of work. Check out the pictures below. Thanks again for all of the interest... Tony BELOW YOU WILL SEE MANY PICTURES OF THE FLOOR PANS, VARIOUS BRACES, CROSSMEMBER, TRANSMISSION TUNNEL, REAR FLOOR PANS, AREAS UNDER THE REAR SEAT ... THESE WILL SHOW YOU JUST HOW NICE AND SOLID THIS CAR IS .... I SPENT A TOTAL OF 30 MINUTES WIPING THIS DOWN AND IT WAS A QUICKIE TO SAY THE LEAST. THESE FLOORS WILL CLEAN UP SUPER NICE AND ALL IT TAKES IS A LITTLE SOAP AND WATER AND SOME TIME... BE SURE TO WEAR A PAIR OF PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHILE DOING THIS AS THE OLD DITY DOESNT FEEL VERY GOOD WHEN IT GETS IN YOUR EYES.... I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN BETTER. I HOPE THESE HELP. BY THE WAY, IN CASE I HAVE NOT MENTIONED THIS BEFORE, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE OR PARKING BRAKE WORKS GREAT AND THIS IS IMPORTANT WITH A FACTORY STICK SHIFT CAR.... THE PARKING BRAKE CABLES ARE ALL NICE AND APPEAR TO HAVE BEEN REPLACED. THE SHOCKS ARE ALL NEW. THE CAR IS A GOOD ORIGINAL 1965 SKYLARK GS 2 DOOR POST AND 1 OF JUST 406 PRODUSED WITH THE 3 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. THIS CAR GETS UP AND SCOOTS BECAUSE OF THE LOW AND MIDRANGE TORQUE OF THE 401 NAILHEAD ENGINE COMBINED WITH THE ORIGINAL DEARBORN HEAVY DUTY 3 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND THE 3.36 REAREND GEARS. YOU WILL BE PLEASANTLY SURPRISED AT HOW QUICK THIS CAR IS AND NOW NICELY IT RUNS AND DRIVES FOR A 47 YEAR OLD BUICK MUSCLE CAR!!! ITS SUPER COOL AND WOULE BE AN EASY CAR TO GO OVER COSMETICALLY SINCE IT HAS NICE ORIGINAL TRIM AND A SOLID ORIGINAL BODY. THE INTERIOR PARTS AND CHEAP AND YOU CAN HAVE ONE KILLER COOL BAD ASS RIDE AND A RARE ONE AT THAT WITHOUT SPENDING A LOT OF MONEY!!! THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR EMAILS AND YOUR PHONE CALLS. GOOD LUCK AND CALL TONY 215-499-2693 WITH ANY QUESTIONS OR CONCERNS. THIS IS ONE RARE BIRD ... 1 OF 405 !!!! On Apr-12-12 at 21:46:30 PDT, seller added the following information: This is a great start to a restoration or will make a super driver with some cosmetic freshening. This car is everything that you'd want in a 1965 Skylark GS with the super solid body and a good running 401-325hp Nailhead and then of course you have the rarity with the factory 3 Speed Floor Shifted Manual Transmission car which makes this car 1 of 405 1965 Skylark GS Thin Pillar Coupe / 2 Door Post cars produced! This car was made back in the last week of February 1965 making it a very early Gran Sport as Production of these cars is said to be early Janury of 1965 and after 47 years, its held up well considering its never had a restoration. Finding a Body like this is a Real Treat for guys like me who have spent our entire lives on the East Coast. This car would be an easy restoration or just freshen the interior and cruise it around for awhile until you feel like painting it back to its Darker Midnight Blue. Its the Real Deal and a great foundation for a restoration..... its got all of the things that count in my opinion from the Low Production Numbers to a Super Solid body and fairly good original trim.... not show but nice original trim and I dont need to tell you just how difficult it is to find Nice Original Trim for these cars Its a cool car because of the 3 Speed Dearborn Transmission which really gets this car going in a hurry..... with the 3.36 gears and the gearing of the Factory Installed Dearborn 3 Speed, it feel more like a 3.90 or 4.11 gear car or at least thats how it felt to me as I was fairly new to the crazy low end Torque of these Nailhead engines. I own several of them now and I am now a little more experienced with the unusual nature of a good Nailhead. I am by no means the Nailhead guru but I have a newfound respect for these engines as I have never driven anything that is quite as torquey! Keep in mind that I have been a Mopar/Ford guy for many years and although I am not an expert on any particular car, I have found these Buick Nailhead powered vehicles to be unlike anything else that Ive ever driven and especially with the Manual Transmission. I had a few other 401 powered cars with Automatics and the difference is amazing in my opinion or maybe Ive never had a real strong running Nailhead powered vehicles that was backed by an automatic transmission. Whatever the case, this 1965 Buick Skylark GS Coupe is a good solid car and its the kind of car that you hope to find when your looking for something to keep for awhile if your going to put your hard earned money out. Remember this is a Bare Bones Factory built Muscle car that left the Assembly Plant without so much as a single option outside of the AM Radio. It had power steering added but its otherwise a no frills Muscle car. It doesnt have Reverse Lights as they were an extra cost option and the person who original ordered or bought this car new wanted something that was simple and fast! No power robbing accessories on this car from the factory. It was all about the speed and the cool look of the 2 Door Post and all Wrapped Up in Midnight Blue or Dark Blue with a Two-Tone Blue Interior.... what a Stunning car this will be if the next owner decides to go that route and freshens the Interior & paint. It would be absolutely gorgeous in its Original color combination all freshened up!!!
