Vehicle Detail
OK, here is a 914 that you can jump right in and drive right now! This is a nearly complete restoration that has very little left to do. It is a 1973 so it requires no smog cert and the following work has been completed: · Engine is low-miles rebuild of utilizing the 1.7 cases, 96mm jugs and pistons coupled with the 71mm crankshaft to produce 2056 cc’s. The cam is a mild street cam to give good tractability. It has been set up with 40mm Weber carbs, centrifugal advance distributor and topped off with a new Bosch Blue Coil. · All of the rust issues have been dealt with. The rear of the trunk has been replaced with brand new panels, longitudinals have been redone, front pan area is solid, floors are solid. Any rust behind rocker panels or on the firewall was removed and repaired along with the battery tray being replaced. · All of the surface rust from the bottom of the car was removed and the entire chassis underneath has been undercoated, including the wheel wells. This alone was an $1800 expense. · New paint using Porsche Speedway Green a GT3 OEM color with flat black hood and trunk lids. The transmission was fully rebuilt in about 2008. The car has been driven as a weekend fun driver. The seats are original but have been custom recovered with a material that emulates carbon fiber with the Porsche logo and name stitched/embroidered on the headrests. They look outstanding! A Custom carpet kit and floor mats (as well as the firewall cover behind the seats) are all new and were done in the summer of 2011. The front-end suspension and the rear rotors are from an 87 Porsche Carrera S. The car also has real Fuchs 16 x 6 wheels as well with new tires and brake pads. The Targa top fits fine, the lights work and new turn signal assemblies have been installed a the front.New windshieldNew dash coverExhaust is the Monza style and the header assembly/heat exchangers are in very nice condition. Does need the heat valves and hoses. The rubber rear bumper piece is in decent shape and the front lower lip and front bumper are fiberglass components. The car also comes with the front bumper grilles and the speaker covers. There is a stereo installed but it needs new speakers. There are some areas that still need completion: There is some rubber that needs to be installed or replaced – not a lot, but some The driver side door does not shut as I think it should, but a good body shop should be able to get it to work properly. I spoke with a restoration shop near hewre and they think it is just an adjustment required to teh lockpost catch piece. Not a stock component, but if I were to keep the car I would install a RHS mirror Needs a spare tire/wheel and the board that goes over it to finish the front trunk A new EMPI distributor goes with the car. It is a combo distributor, with a vacuum advance AND centrifugal advance to give a wider total advance curve to further enhance low-speed drivability. Receipts come with the car and total over $15,000, not counting the cost of the car itself. Needless to say, you could not duplicate this car for the asking price.Shipping or pickup is the responsibility of the buyer. Sold as-is, no warranty. Title is CLEAR (not a salvage title).Feel free to email for additional info or photos.keywords: 914, 911, sc, carerra, porsche, 944, 924, 356, 993, 996 On Mar-27-12 at 15:25:03 PDT, seller added the following information: NOTE THAT THE RESERVE HAS BEEN LOWERED. I have had a number of requests for additional pictures and info so you will note new photos have been added. In these 8 add'l photos there are several things to take note of:The engine and transmission are both bone dry, so it is obvious that there are no leaks with these components. Several of the photos show this. The floors are factory original with the proper stampings in them and they are solid. The undercoating was professionally done and has not been over-sprayed onto suspension parts or the engine/transmission.The undercoating was extended up into the fender areas as well to do a thorough job.The floors are straight and do not have any evidence of dents or abuse.Even the firewall area was properly coated and is solid. If you have ever seen a stock 914 up in the air the first thing that strikes you with this one is the tire width. This car carries much more tire contact patch than a stock 914 and thus will handle spectacularly. The Brakes are also capable of slowing this car MUCH BETTER than the stock brakes ever thought of doing. You can see that the Heat Exchangers and exhaust headers themselves are in excellent condition. One of the two heater cans is in place, so only one more is needed, along with the hoses, to connect the heat up. I had originally thought two would be needed.Evident in the photos are many new rubber boots and bellows. These were installed when the engine and transmissionw were last installed in the chassis. The muffler assembly is in very nice condition and the tips are nice as well.Tires have very little time (or miles) on them. For those of you that have never owned a 914 before, I must warn you that they are an addictive driving machine even in stock form. There is a reason that Formula cars have the engine in the middle, as it is the optimum placement for best handling and cornering. This one is even more so, as it gives you a visceral driving experience like no other. You quickly become very confident in its handling capabilites, especially with the added HP and better braking abilities. Before long you are ONE with the car, acting together in harmony to traverse corners with ease. The combination of the 911 front suspension and the 914 rear actually gives you superior roadhandling over even a 911. You will have to work VERY HARD to reach the limits of this car. This car's steering is tight and responsive, giving you immediate feedback of what is happening at the tires. Getting through the gears is fun and 5th is only for cruising. The bottom 4 gears are for your pleasure. This car gets grins, waves and thumbs-up wherever it goes. And I have never seen a nicer 914 interior, even on a new one (yes I was around then!). Whoever gets this 914 will be getting a very nice example and will enjoy it for many years. On Mar-28-12 at 19:38:32 PDT, seller added the following information: Met with a body guy today about the door and he commented that part of the problem lies in the fact that the body seals that the door inself butts up to are not there. He explained that without those in place the door is allowed to go too far towards the center of the car. This accounts for my comment of the way the door fits. He was pretty adamant that the addition of those seals would eliminate the majority/all of the issues with the door that I have taken exception to. There are also some additional parts that go with the car such a the speaker grilles for the interior area, the horn grilles and also the sun visors, which are in pretty good shape. As a bonus to the auction, I have some additional 914 parts that will go with the car as well, stuff that I have collected over the last 20 years or so. Not a lot of items, but they will also go with the car. I took the car out for drive this evening and it is such a fine automobile, the driver input is translated to the road instantaneously and the car responds as if on rails. The changes to this car (from stock) make it a true high-performance driver, a joy to drive and explore the limits. This is a car that you can tease 911 and BMW drivers with and then leave them in the dust!
